Hey I'm a noob on my first character so please bear with me. I have a lvl 35 Druid. I started with two gather skills Herbalism and Skinning (both skills are at about lvl 250). I've made nearly 200 gold which is great, but I'm wondering if I should drop a gather skill for a crafting skill. If so, what skill is good for druids?

My gut tells me to drop Herbalism and take Leatherworking to go with my Skinning. But am I a fool to drop a lvl 250 Herbalism that makes me gold?

Any advice would be helpful.

I personally would not pick up leatherworking until you hit the outlands.

You think I should stick with Herbalism then?

i know a few herbalist alchemists that make silly money in outlands and also the potions they make are more usefull than the leather you could make. if it was me i would keep the gathering options until you have 500g maybe in the bank that way you will have no probs getting your epic mount at 60 then go and drop skinning for alchemy.

take mining, eat carrots and click here for the money guide using just 1 gathering skill (http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=388522)

I'd suggest keeping both gathering professions until at least you have enough money for the epic munt (~540 gold, +100 gold for the first mount, I believe)

The crafting professions have some excellent recipes. But the leatherworking stuff isn't BoP until the final levels. With alchemy you can make potions that you can use now, but if you want leatherworking I'd wait until I make enough money from herbalism.

Just my $0.11, though...

If it is your only toon, keep both gathering profs until 50+. Stockpile some mats, and then you could take LW or Alchem. But, consider your lvl 70 spec too. See if the LW BOP items will be helpfull to you at lvl 70.

Also, consider your playstyle. If you plan on raiding later on, those LW BOP items will be replaced by raid gear. IF, however, raiding is not in your future, then the LW BOP items might be very good for you. (I don't plan on raiding, so, I'm doing BS for the end-game BOP items).

But again, if this is your only toon, then stick to two gathering for a while longer.

IMHO crafting professions suck... gathering professions rock. If you're in a guild which has lots of people with crafting profs, farm up the mats and have them make you the stuff.

You do lose out on the BoP items though... and and endgame, the LW epic BoP pattern for both feral and resto are really really nice. If course LW >260 is REALLY HARD and expensive to level.

I'd keep both gathering profs. herb/mine will make you more money but are more of a pain. You have 2 tracking skills you need to swap between. Also as a druid, you need to pop out of form to mine (which you don't to skin/herb).

My main is a druid herb/mine and my alt is a alc/jc. Alc wasn't bad to level, but JC was painful and not really all that useful. The uncut gems sell for as much as the cut ones do... and I've got a friend who is a JC who can cut what I need.

If you do feel the need to get a crafting prof, go alc. Consumables FTW.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will keep the two gathering skills for a bit longer. I've been making much more with Herbalism than with Skinning, but skinning is easy cause you don't have to really look for them. You just skin your kills.

I'll try to save up 500 gold then switch. (gulp) Seems like a lot of money!

I added a bag in my bank where I'll stockpile some skins for when I drop herbalism and then I can more quickly level up Leatherworking.

Thanks again,

Save up twice that. enough for your mount and leveling.

I'd hold both longer than that, especially Herbalism. Both the outland herbs and leather sell very well on my server. Felweed, the most common plant, sells for over 15g a stack.
