First off, I apologize for this thread. Yes I know about the search function. I looked but was unable to find anything for this. And since there isn't a "Trade" forum I thought this would be the best place to ask.

I got my first epic drop yesterday farming crystals for Condordium rep. It was Epic "Pattern: Windslayer Wraps". This being my first toon to reach high level, I'm not sure how pricing Epics work. I've tried looking up various WoW sites to check for pricing (all of which seemed outrageous 800g-1kg :ponder: ), but thats not exactly a reliable source because of the differences in servers and whatnot. I'm not starting this thread to advertise it, I'm asking if anyone has a good formula/system they use to set prices for Epic Patterns. Am I supposed to factor in item level more than the stats attached to the gear? I do have auctioneer, and have been scanning once a day since level 35 (now 67) but it's never been seen. Looking at the prices of other Epic patterns on my server (Manoroth) the range goes from 85g - 500g. Any advice is supremely appreciated.

Look for the same recipe on the AH, or look for patterns that make something similar to what your recipe crafts, and price it accordingly.
Or just set it at a high price and keep dropping it until it's bought.

Epics, especially BoE world drops in outlands right now... prices will be all over the place, because they're just isn't very many of them right now.

As rkobo said, start really high, and work your way down. :)

You definitely need to factor in your own server's economy. A roomie and I used to play the AH on two different servers, and there were considerable differences as to what reasonable prices were, and it wasn't the case that one server always had higher prices.

On the server I play on, I wouldn't be surprised to see that formula on the AH for 1K gold. In fact, I think I've seen that specific one for more than that.

Thanks for the help. I hadn't factored in the BoP or BoE'ness of the item that the pattern crafted. Like you all said about starting high, I threw it on last night for 1k, and quickly advertised it in the trade channel. I got a few responses in trade that were along the lines of "No f'ing way at that price" and a few whispers making very /slap offers. And since this pattern hasn't been seen on the server's AH in the time I've been scanning, I would think its safe to assume that its pretty rare. I personally don't want to sell it for 100s less than its worth just for the sole purpose to getting rid of it. But the fact of the matter is what I feel it's worth is never going to be what the buyer feels its worth. In the end it is just a virtual game with virtual money, but personally I'd like a virtual epic flying mount.

Put it up at 1k gold - well done.

You need to find the price point. So I would relist every day at 50g less.

Don't go below about 750g tho

These things are all around 800g on my server

Well, after another night of trying to pawn this pattern off, I gotta tell you, its turning out to be more of a curse than a blessing. When I linked it in guild chat, everyone who responded told me that it was a great rare drop and that the item it taught was some of, if not THE, best Feral Druid gloves available. I was also told by one of my guild's LWs that he was in a bidding war with someone over the exact pattern and the other person ended up buying it for 3k. And this happened literally less than 2 weeks ago. Now I, in no universe, expect to get anything even close to half of that, but when trying to sell it last night, I got laughed at for even suggesting a price of 350g. I know stuff like this takes awhile to sell, but with every day that passes, someone else has a chance to get this drop and devalue the one I have that much more. I guess all I can do is just keep throwing it up on the Auction House and hope it sells.

Don't give in... simple fact is you cannot farm these patterns reliably. Someone will end up paying for it eventually. If people laugh at your asking price so what? Those are the same people who don't understand how I could possibly have afforded my epic flying mount without buying gold.

Truth is I prey on people such as yourself... if I see something I want listed several times by the same person with the price getting lower each time I'll add em to my friend's list, wait a couple more days and then approach them in tell and lowball em to take it off the AH hoping that they are sick of listing it and just want to get rid of it. Usually works too.

Just be patient... at level 70 it's much easier to farm a 1000g than an epic pattern.

Well, I certainly appreciate the honesty. I guess I'll just have to stick with it and realize that it will eventually sell.

Yes... you must realise that most of those folks giving you stick are the ones that are actually interested and trying to beat you down :)

Many times i'll see something going in trade for 100g... lowball offer them 40g for it... they'll say go away... then I will say - COD it to me for 40g if it doesn't sell. 1 time out of 5 i'll get a nice mail with a COD item for a bargain.

Got a lifestone for 40g that way that I sold for 80g... helm of narv for 80g i sold for 150g... people want their cash quick and patience pays off! Both of those items took me two weeks+ to offload.

It's just one of those items where people have their own opinion.

I had the epic Lifegiving Cloak drop for me a few weeks back and was told that it's the best healers cloak in the game.

Sure, it IS the best healers cloak in the game but upon investigation I found that there were a couple of blue cloaks which lacked a couple of +int and about 5 +healing but that's about the only difference....most people would rather stick with the slightly inferior stats than pay an extreme amount for the epic tag. Ended up only being able to offload it for 350g but after seeing the similar quest reward I'm quite happy with that.

On my server, epic patterns go from anywhere between 300g and 1500g. Once a lot more people start getting more time on their hands at lvl 70 and eventually reach 375 in their trade skills, the patterns will become more valuable as you'll have the same supply but a lot more demand.

Unless you desperately need the money now, perhaps you could put it in the bank for another couple of months.

Timing is everything with selling anything on the AH. You just have to be patient. If something is not selling or others are selling the same or similar item "too low" just wait them out. Soon their stock will be gone and you can make a killing.

Right now I am cleaning up on illusion dust. It is selling for over twice its usual price. As a mat I have historically found it to be a poor seller, but it has its moments. Be prepared to cash in on those "moments"

yeah illusion dust is my big money maker right now too. No one is running those level 60 instances anymore so there aren't nearly as many lvl 51+ armor and weapons being disenchanted. On my server illusion dust is going from 2.5 - 3g per dust. Like 2 weeks ago GEEs were selling for 18g a pop (now down to 12). I was cleaning up.

@Aromar - No I don't need the money. I have two gathering professions and don't plan on ever getting an actual crafting prof so I have plenty for my flying mount at 70 (currently 68). This sale was just going to start my savings for my Epic Flyer.

@Big Guns - Yeah, timing really is everything, you're so right. Trying to sell this thing on a Monday and Tuesday nights probably won't get the same response as a Friday or Saturday night. Plus if this just sold a week or two ago, chances are the NEED for it has passed and I'll just have to wait for other LWs/Druids to reach the levels to where they can use this.

Illusion dust... couldn't get rid of it a couple of days ago... then ran into a guy from a 19/29 twink guild... did the enchant for a reasonable price... and now i'm the twink guilds favourite enchanter... I am going to need stacks of illusion dust!

It's funny with level 18s paying 12g for enchants... that was a quick 70-80g and got rid of all the illusion dust

I only have so much because greater eternals are going for over 10g at the moment so I am DEing all 51-60 greens I can get my hands on

To anyone who was following this, I ended up catching a break last night, and my pattern sold on the AH for 800g (763 after fees). I didn't even advertise in the trade channel the night before since I was so defeated by all the negative people telling me I was overpricing. Someone just looked up all the LW recipes in the AH, saw mine and bought it out. From being a skinner/herbalist, I'm used to logging into the game and having 10g-30g in my mailbox, but to log in and have your income shoot up by 750g is an amazing feeling.

Awesome... told you to be patient. Don't spend it all in one place :D

It's funny that immediately after collecting the money from my mailbox and letting some of my RL friends (who are also in my guild) know that it sold, 2 of the 5 of them (both 70) ask to borrow gold.

Sadly, it will be spent all in one place. I'm 68 and have 2500k. I doubt there's anyway to reach 5k in 1.5 more levels to get my epic flyer.

okay well if you're spending it in one place that's the place you want to spend it LOL

Sorry to break the news to you but you'll have to reach more than 5k for your epic flyer seeing as though you need to buy the 225 riding skill before you can get the 300 flying skill....so add 800g to your total (plus 200g to buy your epic mount)

Yeah, I knew that, but didn't write it in there. So expensive to...yikes.

But seeing as how I hit 70 over the weekend, between gold from quest turn-ins and running through Zang and picking the place clean of its herbs, I think it shouldn't take too long (a month and a half?) to make my 5k for my epic.
