Artifact Clarification

Noobie Question - Artifact weapons are extremely extremely rare obviously, but I thought that regular players could possibly still get one. Someone told me yesterday that they are "GM Only" . . .

I wouldn't know as I have never seen a character with one.

I thought there were some "GM Only" weapons but not that all Artifacts are.

Clarification please . . .

P.S. - is there a mod that can show u in game items? As I have seen people link them in chat before.

No artifact items are currently implimented in game, so it's kind of a moot question. Even if they exist in the data, they aren't 'real' until they are released to the masses.

Regarding item linking, there are item DB mods out there. But if you try to link an item that hasn't dropped on the server yet, it will disconnect you from the game. (Nothing permenant, just dang irritating)

Found some info on WoWwiki:
"These weapons are famous as GM weapons, and have been linked to in various datamining posts and in various videos taken from illegal servers.

They are the only known artifact that might eventually be in the game, and whose stats are known.

There has been speculation about the possibility of this dropping from Illidan in the Burning Crusade:

Item requires level 70.
It's Illidan's!
Illidan himself looted it from Azzinoth, so why can't we loot it from him?
The equip effect is "the fury of Illidan".
However, it is likely the stats will be significantly reduced in its final form."

If they decide to implement any artifacts they will be from raiding and probably with a questchain requiring lots of work and mats like the "old" legendarys Sulfuras, Thunderfury and Atiesh.
