Typically, one does research before buying expensive "upgrades" not after. If you had swung by the technical forum on this beforehand, we coud have told you in a heartbeat that Vista is currently giving worse performance that XP. It isn't a driver issue, it's the plain simple fact it's a resource hog compaired to XP, and there are no advantages for gamers to going there, unless they enjoy having to spend a whole load of money on more capable hardware to get the same performance as they did on the old hardware under XP. DirectX 10 won't be exclusively used for visual effects for many years, most games today are written with mostly DirectX 8 effects and fully backwards compatible.

People having been say this for months, it's public knowledge, you can only blame yourself for not looking beforehand.

I have my Vista upgrade (came free with my computer) but I'm waiting for all of the issues to be resolved before I upgrade from XP. Seems like there are too many problems right now and I wouldn't be able to run a lot of my...ummm... acquired software as well.

I'm running Vista, Nvidia, and WoW with no problems at all. But then again I upgraded to Vista at the same time I built my new dual core AMD/ Nvidia 8800gt machine which is a bit overkill for WoW. Not to say I don't beleive people are having problems because yeah Nvidia took their sweet time to update their drivers and still don't have it quite right, but it's not across the board that you'll have problems with this combo either.

I think Vista is not yet complete. I mean it might still have some glitches right? I would buy that when I am sure I won't regret buying it. Just to make sure!

In my opinion, upgrades stink. I think you're better off buying the real thing.

And what's with all the rush to Vista anyway? Unless I'm wrong, DirectX 10 games aren't even out yet.

I'm waiting out Vist too. I'll wait until XP is basically outmoded, which means the majority of bugs will be worked out Vista. Hopefully...

I have vista ultimate, dual core AMD and an nvidia 7850 (dual GPU)

Doesn't crash any more often than your average windows box

And dual GPUs mean I don't notice any difference :P I run WoW windowed most of the time so I can surf for quest help at the same time and no issues.

Maybe I'm a noob, but what the heck is going on with ppl running in windowed mode? Why not Alt+Tab? I guess ppl are different, but it really anoys me to see other than the game...

Heh have you ever run a 24" widescreen? The window is about 21"

It makes it unbelievably easy to see who is talking in vent, or check quest help

Well...I only have 19" so I guess I haven't experienced that yet... don't want to hijack the thread so I'll just leave it at that! Thx for the input...maybe I'll check it out at my friend's place, see if I get convinced :)

...i also run WoW windowed (i believe there's a checkbox for it on the Video options), for checking quests on the fly. its a lot easier to do quests like that. :D

Having a 24" monitor is great, having two is even better :D

Allows you to run WoW full screen and use the other Monitor for anything else you might have going on, obviously you don't need two sceens the same size I only just got my second one, upgrading from a 17" LCD.

And to run windowed mode it is under video options, small tick box.

Oh and on the Vista discussion, it is not a mature gaming OS and only really hinders the performance of your machine, especially since the drivers are very young. Stick with XP all the way or if you really must have Vista dual boot a machine and have it installed on a seperate partition/disk. Then you can find out how bad/good it is for you.

I was very annoyed at how long it has taken Nvidia to get a working version of the 8800GTX driver, almost 2 months after vista was released.

I'm sorry but I don't get how people who play games (typically the most picky software) go out and buy a completely new operating system from a company notorious for putting out half-finished half-assed products that take a year of patches and service packs to even begin to work properly.

I installed Vista (a friend's copy) on a second PC and on an old hard drive just to try it out, saw how it works with my games, reformatted that HD and decided to buy my copy only after the first service pack, but it wasn't a surprise.

As for the monitor side-discussion: 22" widescreen as main and 19" as secondary ftw. :) The have basically the same height and both being Samsung they are quite similar, great setup and not expensive at all.
