View Full Version : Low pop. server woes.

Well, after a few frustrating weeks on my new server I'm quite irked so I have come to my ancesteral home to vent somewhat, and also look for guidance. The server I'm refering to is Ravencrest.
I came to this server looking for a small community to become a part of. What I've found is a nearly non-exsistent community and almost compelte isolation. I've been guild hunting since I created my toon. I joined a vary small guild early in my career, 10 members, that quickly dissolved due to inactivity (the gm didn't log in for about 12 days and finally everyone just gquit). Since then I've made several posts on the realm forum looking for a guild to join, my only requirement being that they not mass recruit from general chat. So far a week and a half of posts haven't yeilded a single reply.
So, it's at this crossroads I ponder what I should do next. My character is now level 41 so I really don't want to just re-roll again, I think my logical options are to just level solo until I run into a guild that will take me in or take it upon myself to try and construct a guild.
Has anyone else had similar issues on a low pop server? And more importantly, does it get better at higher levels? I want to love my new home but it is pretty boring logging on to an short friends list and no guild =(.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

id assume that higher levels would have a more established base...plus when you are a higher level, it should be easier to start a guild and add low level people...but you might have to do a few thousand WC or VC runs for a month or so
your server has a much larger ratio of active horde vs alliance, but yes it is a very low population server....17,574 active members within the last month...
its got a traditional spread of levels...and the 40s-60s are always very very low...at 60 there is a large spike again...and a spike around 19 and 29...but yea...wait until 60 then its easier to be a single and ready to mingle person
and after VC and WC they leave, and you'll do more WC and VC for another few months :p

Why don't u transfer your toon to another realm?
I know it costs money, but if u can spare 25$ maybe u should give it a go! Just be careful that u can't change back once u've migrated!

If the toon isn't level 50+, I'd just reroll.
With The Burning Crusade out for some time now, in full swing, I see this happening on a lot of servers.
The race to "level 58" is all that matters, since the gear in outlands makes anything you could get in azeroth look silly.
The instances in azeroth aren't worth the time to most who have already experienced them at least once.

@OP, I've had similar woes.
When Ravenholdt RpPvP server openened, I rolled there for some "action." Had some, lots in fact, because I was in a massive, open-recruit guild who did a lot of early raiding.
But the economy was pitiful. Gold spammers were everywhere advertising "buy now, get later when we have some in stock" all over the place.
And quite a few guilds died when xpac came out, mine own included.
@Fur,
That is a sad reality. It sucks for us newer players who've not yet been able to enjoy instances on Azeroth. I've long looked forward to doing MC or Ony and such. Sadly, it is difficult enough just to get a party together to help a paladin get his/her epic mount.

Thanks for the responses folks.
Tomato espcially, definitly sounds like I should hold out for a few more weeks of leveling.
I definitly don't want to reroll at this point. I really enjoy my 'lock.

Is the server open for xfers yet? If not, I'd wait for that benchmark, at least. I'm currently on a server whose census marked us at a whopping 11.2k. Honestly, the biggest effect this has is on the economy. I personally like that I'm sometimes able to go to the elemental plateau and farm alone. But, I'd rather have to compete for mobs than have to wait 3 weeks to find an item on the AH. I'm holding tight because I have a level 70, 40, 39, 30, 30, and 18 on it--including being maxed out for my level in mining, tailoring, blacksmithing, mining (again), engineering, jewelcrafting, enchanting, leatherworking, alchemy, and herbalism. I just can't leave that...not now, anyway...no matter how dead the server is.

I often take one of my high level players, and run random lowbee players through some of the old content, especially when I can tell its their first time going there.
I'll see some poor guy in a major city going "LFG VC.. or LFG Stocks" for 20+ mintues, with no hope of getting a group (while I'm playing in the AH or something), then just /invite the guy/gal, and plow them through it, so they can get thiere quests done and such. I just put it on free-for-all and let them have at it.
To the comment about the Pally Epic Mount quest.... I stood and begged in front of Scholomace for part of my Epic Warlock Mount quest for 2 hours before someone finally came along to help me out. I feel your pain.

Yep.
I'm fortunate enough to have a very active and somewhat large guild. So guild runs for my quests have not been an issue. Plus a few of my RL friends were leveling at the same time as me, until they got tied up in their new sexa hawt emo belf male mage twins. Bah, as bad as nelfs I say! :) One of our guildmates was trying for his epic pally mount for a couple of days, during a lull of players being on in the middle of the week. He got a guild run for it that weekend.
We've recently started using GEM, which helps a lot I think.
Edit: My issue is that they do exactly what you mention. Plow through it, so all I'm really doing is looting and I'm missing out on a lot of content. Or so I think anyway.

It's definitly a waiting game. I transfered (Using a Free Transfer right after BC came out) to a brand new server, Azuremyst, I think it was 2 days old at that point. The first few weeks the server was emtpy, the AH had 3 pages of Auctions. On the plus side, I was able to get the Trinket from the Arena in STV as a level 30 Mage with no competition.
It has taken a while, but I am now in a Good guild, and the server is starting to feel like a community. So I would definitly stick it out.

Well, the majority of the content is the instance itself, seeing the thing. The trash mobs are just that, trash....
If the question is "see the place at warp speed" or "never see it at all" I'll take warp speed....
I did WC for the first time the other day with an alt, and found it to be horrible. I'll never go back.

where can you find out server population stats?

Not sure if such sites can be posted here. Try a google search for census and world of warcraft.

Just as an aside if it interests you. I'm a hordie on Mannoroth and on our server there has been a decent set of pug BWL/MC/ZG/ONY going on where level 70 guilds that didn't raid much previously are looking for some practice with the padding of level 70 stats (they usualy take some 60-69's since filling the raid up is nice). You would get to see it as well as show your skill so ya can get into kara at 70 :).

I appreciate the invitation. Maybe if I do decide to transfer my orc lock from Ravenholdt, that will be where she goes.
