My dad forwards me crap like that all the time via email. If I have to listen to that new-age emo BS in game too I might have to hurt someone.

Do the gold-sellers do this to everyone? They must be using /who? I always wondered...Once I was invited into a raid, and when I joined I got spammed with ads. I had never seen /whisper ads before, but once that happened, I get them several times a day now. I always add to my ignore list, but last night I got one from someone on the list??? I went to ignore him and it said "XXX has been removed from your ignore list" meaning he was already there.
I was always very paranoid about doing anything about this. My worst fear is that Blizzard skews my story and accuses me of buying gold. Since I am a GM, there is alot at stake if I run into such trouble. I have never bought or sold gold, so I know there is no evidence against me, but I just like to not be even remotely associated with it, especially when I hear stories about people being banned for just having too much gold on their accounts.

/whisper ads piss me off because it's just some stupid bot. But what gets me is say I'm offline for like a week, and I come back and I have 2 or 3 letters in the mail advertising gold. I want to know how these bots know me when I'm gone for a week. They must have a list somewhere of every character on the server and they just cycle through them when their bots don't get through on the whisper ads, so they just mail it.
I think what they need is a system in the mail system that allows you to forward mail to the GMs. From their, the GMs can track the account that sent the item and then take the required measures, depending on what it is. That way, it's not "my word against his word".

I am so glad to know it is not just me. I wish there was a way to remove yourself from the /who list.

I agree 100%.
@YAWP, I report any and all gold spams. The GM's can track your mail, and have done so for me when I've reported them.

I always see how quickly I can reply with rude whispers about what I did to the senders mother in which orifice and what I made her do after the act was finished.
But that is quite the unique ad.
I play a gold selling game. Whenever someone whispers me with an ad, I see if I can think of a witty reply and send it to them before they log off.
It's a hard game, I normally get 'that character doesn't exist or isn't online' sort of stuff.

I think they have some sort of mod that uses AH listing. Some way to see who is auctioning things.
I take care of all of the AH work for my wife and myself on my char. I get a ton of gold whispers and she has never gotten a single 1. Maybe i'm wrong, but it seems strange.

I got one yesterday and reported it in the Verbal Harassment Ticket, and the GM I talked to said they would try to take care if the problem.

I don't think it has anything to do with the AH, I don't get any with my Auction character (Except Trade Chat Spam) but my Main I get whispers all the time.

Actually doesn't /dnd take you off who listings?
I know it's a bit annoying, but hey if it saves you some grief...

I wonder if some of the spams are from Armory now. I have been getting a lot of "free power leveling 60-70" whispers aimed at my 62 hunter mut my 70 main gets gold sellers. My little guys get nothing so far except the mailbox spam.

I fell ya brother. My main toon is 39 right now, and it feels like a *stream* of gold sellers keep sending me /w. Every 15 minutes or so. While leveling. While vending. While chilling out with guild. During friggin' PvP!!
Sorry guys, but -NO-. I'm a student of kcma's, and got far more gold than I'll ever need. And the best thing is I can undercut those... people (let's remain polite) by giving a little gold for free to my guildmates/friends. That 100 less gold for you, MISTER!

It's simple really, the people that sell gold make a trial account, and then use auto-typer and thing of the sort to advertise it's product, (whether it be gold, powerleveling, ect.)

I got about 4 of these in the space of 2 hours the other day. It made me want to do less than pleasant things to them.
I'm single. Pathetically so. I don't need constant reminders of this as I play something to divert me from the soul-destroying loneliness that is my day to day existence.
I've put them on my ignore list, and I open tickets. But that doesn't stop the spamming. And strangely, some of them are still in my ignore list. What does it take, Blizzard, to ban the gold-selling whisperers? Must I make infernal pacts with forces from beyond space and time? Will I need to make sacrifices to the great old ones in order to not get interrupted in my travails of azeroth?
If I could, I'd start sacrificing the gold sellers. Not the little people either. The bosses. Kill the head and the body will die. And I might be able to awaken ancient evils, too. An added bonus.
