View Full Version : ARMORY JOKE? Wow, this is hilarious!

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but I just noticed a new headline on the launcher: "Introducing the Tinfoil Hat -- Armor to protect yourself from the Warcraft Armory."

I'm not sure if it's a real item, but the entire thing is just hilarious to me. The devs are finally getting back at all the whiners and cryers.

Official info: [CLICK ME!] (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/tinfoilhat.xml).

Edit: After reading it more, I can see it's definately a joke. The devs are laughing hard at the idiots QQing over the Armory.

Here's the full page text in case it's removed:

Every engineer knows that in order to achieve true greatness, it is imperative to always keep a clear, unclouded mind and to protect one's secrets from those who would seek to steal or plagiarize the radical new designs of a hard-working genius. The Tinfoil Hat is the logical result of this profound insight, combining tinfoil's powerful mental shielding properties with the excellent counter-hexing effect of troll tears and the outstanding mind-focus powers of one of Azeroth's most precious gems.

Crafting the Tinfoil Hat
However, besides keeping the wearer safe from mind spies and the thought police, it also removes the wearer's character profile from the World of Warcraft Armory to further guarantee that no one will be able to divine all of the wearer's tightly held secrets. Furthermore, wearers of the Tinfoil Hat will not show up in /who listings, and they will also be immune to inspection from other players.

The schematic for the Tinfoil Hat can be obtained by high-level characters from two faction-specific vendor NPCs in or around Area 52 that sell the schematic to anyone. There is, however, a catch. The creative masterminds who invented the Tinfoil Hat, special engineers Sculder and Mully, are extremely suspicious of any and all visitors. They use Gnomish Cloaking Devices and their own Tinfoil Hats to stay out of sight, and they will only reveal themselves to connoisseurs of their favorite foods -- Dried Mushroom Rations for Sculder, and Dried Fruit Rations for Mully (these items can be bought in Thrallmar and Honor Hold).

Preparing to find Sculder or Mully
The truth is out there

The only drawback is that the increased focus provided by the Tinfoil Hat may sometimes lead the wearer to achieve a superlative level of mental clarity, through which he can see the manifold subtle connections between seemingly unrelated facts and events, revealing to the wearer a much sharper image of the truth. Resisting the urge to share this truth with other, less illuminated players can be difficult, indeed...

EDIT!: It seems this page also contains a little hidden text. The devs must really love warlocks with all the hidden **** they add to the site.
To staff of warlock none compare
Leaves its enemies seeing double
To defy its power none would dare
Don't report anything, I might get in trouble

The Warlock bit is about Kralnor. Google the name and you'll see.

Edit: give the armory nothing, but take from it everything!

Well done Blizz!

Troll Tears a real item, I think. Wasn't there a quest to take twenty or so in Zul'Furrak?

I think he was pointing to the fact that they're trolling the forums.

I love the tinfoil hat, best I've seen from them since when they promised to rebalance mephisto and make him immune to everything

edit - of course, no contemporary screenshot of WoW is possible without some guy named "Leonidas" in it

I think it was Troll Temper, but nonetheless, great April Fool's Day from Blizzard!

Troll tears aren't a real item, they are a sarcastic shot at all the trolls crying on the forums about the armory revealing too much.

You have to admit, some of that plate does look mighty slutty on female belfadins, how it could ever protect anything is quite beyond me.. /duck

You realize that this game is actually real. If you look at the details, the game they're actually talking about is Warcraft III (which is the joke). The boxes they show are even the WCIII boxes with a ne name essentially "stickered" over them. The joke is what they're promoting but the game itself is real.

The funny thing is that they could probably just slap stickers on these boxes and sell them to WoW players who have never seen the old Warcraft RTS games anyway..

Ok, so appearing the same day was the Black Temple attunement chart. After browsing it, it seemed like an April Fools Joke as well...but then some of my guildies were running the new quest lines. Anyone know for sure?

I can't see what the issue is with armory, does it not work off of your latest logoff? Or does it update live?

I thought it only updated when you logged off, is that not correct?

Wait a little bit. It's not even 8:00 in California, so Blizzy hasn't had a chance to update yet. They'll tell us what's a joke and what's not.

If you read the requirements you can immediately tell it's a joke. The biggest giveaway is that one of the requirements is being revered with both Aldor and Scryer simultaneously.

I will stand corrected that I thought that it COULD have been real.

Edit: They just posted that the Tinfoil Hat, the Heroes of Azeroth, the Black Temple atunement, and everyone being a blue on the forums was a joke.

If you look there are a few other things that are bogus and/or Impossible:
--An engineering recipe that gives +25 Holy Resistance
--Defeating every Heroic Dungeon Boss within 10 minutes of each other.
--Requiring a Fishing Skill of 520 to fish someting
Are just toname a few.

Where does it say that you have to be revered with both the Scryers andthe Aldor?

On my server last night there were a ton of people in netherstorm it went something like this:

"has anyone seen mulder or scully?"

About 100x.

Some people who knew it was a joke gave them coords to different floating rocks, or told them they jumped between floating debris all around the zone.

I was kinda chuckling to myself at the 20-30 people flying all around the outskirts of the zone looking for them.

This is how we can tell that you aren't truly naughty, or you'd be selling them the fruit/fungus referred to on the web page at a tidy markup.
