View Full Version : I guess I suck at WoW and pvp.

I would like to first say that I am a long time visitor of the main site.
Now, I am probably going to regret saying what I am about to say because I am probably going to be called newb to no end after I post this.
I have played since WoW's release in Nov. 04. I started out horde have about 5 characters on the horde side with the highest being 19 and I spend about six months playing horde. I moved over to Alliance after I found out that is where all my friends where. I choose the server of the friend that I would soon be working with because as I said I would soon be working with him and there where about 8 guys at the work that played to. Played... it really should be play. So Horde for the first 6 months and the highest level is 19 and now Alliance with the following: 61 priest, 36 warrior, 42 warlock, 8 shaman. I started playing the alliance char, the priest, when they where about level 15. (they = friend and guys at work)
Ya'll are probably looking at those levels w/ how long WoW has been out and saying; Wow, he sucks at WoW. What a newb. But then there might be a few that like me don't play as much as the majority of the players out there do.
During the week I probably only spend an hour playing if that and ever now and then I get a week day I am able to play from 6 to 10 or 11 pm. But that is rare. Now on the weekend it is as follows: Play all Saturday and Sunday = rare; only Saturday and Sunday evening = Majority of the time); or None at all. And I only play till about 11 because I start falling asleep at the computer but sometimes on saturday night when on an roll it will last until 2 am.
Now to the main reason why I am writing this:
First off, I have been annoyed several times when I am playing by myself when someone from the opposition (aka. horde) that is 5 to 10 or so levels below me kicks my butt in pvp. I am like, "what the ****! I should have been able to kick that guys butt. Grrr.
Second, I get called newb all the time w/ I'm used to. I mainly get called newb because I don't have no where near the level of gear that I should have or I have a piece of gear the "that class" should not be using. Before the expansion came out I probably had about 2 pieces of the tiar 1 gear (most of tiar 1,2,3, gear is bind on pickup) only because I had the gold to spend on it. I did not have time time to do the end of game Instances to get the gear and I still won't have time to play the new end game instances that came with the expansion. So my only option was to do battlegrounds to get the epics that were/are offered by that route. Now for lower chars I use what ever piece of equipment that the quests give me. Every now and then I spend some one on the AH for some gear if I can afford it. I do not have to gold to spend to deck out the char with the proper gear for that level range and I figured I will end up getting more gear down the line.
finally, Some of you may be saying, "well if you get to play more on the weekend then find a group and do the end game instances to get the epic gear. I gave that a try a few times and every time I got kicked out of the group, called newb, told you suck, told learn your char, etc.
All in all, I am not going to quit playing, quit "trying to pvp" and I don't care how many times I get called newb. I play to have fun and don't want to make a job out of it like I have seen the guys at work do.
Thanks for listening.

This post gets a giant thumbs up. Don't let the elitist folk keep you down. :)

Take heart in what AeroJonesy said, and you get a thumbsup from me too. It's a video-game, it's meant to be fun and entertaining. It's not all about getting that extra +1 stamina, or the right gems or having that one extra gold piece in the bank. Us casuals get to play it too and as long as it's fun, what is the harm? Kudos and wildebeest to you, Raksasas - keep on having fun!

Keep enjoying your game dude! I've spent lots of money on nice items from the AH - and I rarely PvP and rarely duel.
If you want to learn more about the classes you play, post some questions in the class specific forums here.
This is a lot nicer place than the official forums!
- a rarer player is one that enjoys the adventure!

I play more than what I expect the casual player does but agree with you, it's a game! Nothing drives me nuts like someone asking a question in general chat (i.e. What's Exodar?) and that person being slammed for not knowing already. I don't care what the level is, there are more important things to memorize than the drop locations for tier 3 epic gear and what mats are used in a fiery enchant. I don't even mind if someone doesn't play that great if they are trying and take constructive criticism well. They only get on my nerves if they cause wipes and don't take responsibility for their actions.

After stating that I agree with everything said in here, I reckon by now you've noticed this is the unofficial forums, not the official one, if you know what I mean.

Well, everybody starts out as a newb. In fact, before I could kill my first shadow priest, I had lost to many others before that. Keep on fighting, look back and see what you do wrong, correct it, and fight on. Eventually, you will become better.
In PVE, well, yeah, you needa gear up. Start with quest rewards.
rakasas... got a picture?? :)

I feel with ya' brother, since 04, I spend 8 months to get my first char to lvl 40 (heck had Shadowfang keep in my log so long that I could solo it at last).
I have yet to get a char past lvl 54, was really looking forward to Black rock depts, problem is that nobody really goes there anymore :(
As for PVP... one word: "panicattack", simply havn't got the nerves for it.

One thing that works wonders also, is this simple answer whenever someone calls the n-word
"Yeah i'm learning. Care to give me a few pointers? i'd love to be of more help"
If he keeps flaming, he's much worse off than you as a player, and deserves a good /ignore.
Most of the time though, people will relent, give a couple tips, and you'll often end up on friend lists as they'll see you as a decent player, willing to grow. (And so what if it took you long? Intent > Results in my book)
BTW that works the other way around: you'll get a huge base of helping hands for those "hu-ho" moments if you're willing to give the 5 minutes it takes to help out.

Everyone starts somewhere, I suck at playing my warlock and his gear isnt all that great either, but im having fun, which is what this game is about. THe biggest suggestion i can give you is to look for a casual guild to join, One that doesnt expect you to raid all the time and will help you learn your class and maybe even start getting some better gear (Just dont leave once you have gotten some gear or your name will be spread around the server as someone who just use's guilds) Keep playing nad having fun and you will learn how to play your char eventually.

I'm (was) a diehard carebear, never pvp'd at all even after BGs came out for 6 months+. Previous experiences in other PvP mmo's soured me on PvP.
Saying that, PvP in WoW is fun - BGs anyway, can't speak for arena, only done a few. Take some time to do some BGs, its addictive.
You will get destroyed early on a few times, maybe a lot of times - but you'll get better and the experts can't really get better, just get better gear which you have access to also. Started BG'ing with my mage and I sucked, now I'm rarely out of top 3 for KBs and damage done (aoe suicide bomb ftw :) ).
On my battlegroups it can be very frustrating as alliance but horde have a blast usually. I started as horde, made alliance toons for a change and joined a great guild but after numerous BGs with complete and utter idiots I re-activated my horde characters for PvP only. Now I PvE with alliance toons and when I want to BG I use horde ones. Got a 39 mage, 49 druid, 59 priest and a 51 hunter moving to 59/60 on horde side now. I refuse to play lower level BGs because a) I can't be bothered to twink and b) I'm against it on a personal level.
Just wait to lvl x5+ before going in preferably and really, imho, don't bother with 10-19 or 20-29, sad fact is to learn to pvp now you have to wait to lvl 35+, you don't learn much when getting 2-3 shotted by a lvl 19 twink with 3x your hitpoints and 2x your AP (or vice versa). Actually, again in my battlegroups, alliance tend to have lots more twinks at lower levels than horde so alliance tend to get more wins in lower level ranges, the ratio still sucks for alliance though.
Have fun..it is the main thing. I raid and Instance with great friends who just don't duel and PvP because it isn't their thing. One of our best raiding warlocks also has a lv 60 mage. When I was also still lv 60, he asked me to duel...knowing full well how much he hates it...Needless to say...I didn't even use ONE DoT..my FELGUARD killed him. So what? He is still an awesome PvE player and a good friend and I would be ashamed if anyone called him newb because he isn't ^^
Granted it all is a bit easier on a PvE RP server....but seriously don't let these idiots spoil it for you...maybe even get an addon that auto declines duels...or sneak into some AV and AB games, hide in the crowd and learn some PvP there...if you are really desperate...

Well i am with u guys, its a video game but other take it as a second life.
I am playing wow for 2months nearly 3 and my highest lvl is 26 which is my Nelf Hunter... I get called newb all the freaking time and i get kicked by mage who is lvl 23 in WSG, but thats not the point i am having fun seeing all those ppl saying "what are u doing newb u cant carry the flag!" and then other fall for him like he was a master i dont get that. And then u see name-has dropped the flag and no one says anything to him because tehy either ignore him and say better luck next time or they are scared of him.
Now ok my gear is soooo crappy u have no idea and my quests in dungeons are not completed from DM. Why? well i get kicked in the middle of it, one time i was called ninja next my pet was the problem and another the usual one is learn to play ur class. Well dah thats what are we doing, aint that right? u play and u learn at the same time. Ok one time u done something wrong in a dungeon and u failed next time u will know not to do it. U with me guys? Its like some people knwo how to swimm but how they knew it? they didnt born with an abbility to swimm they learned it.
But a great tip would be find a great friend who will help u. I found this lvl 70 mage and thx to him KOTI he helped my to lvl he helped me to to dungeons and he even took me on a trip to horde city (oh yes baby thats was cool). And he doesnt care what lvl u are are u a noob or u dont have great gear for ur lvl. Well yes i didnt so he gave me some and added few enchants and so on. People like these are quite rare KOTI is like 5th ive seen in WoW.
So i hope u enjoyed my story kids
Dont worry, BE happy!

so true.
if this happens ask what ur doing wrong and what u could do to make it better. Most likely they dont know and are trying to cover up there mistakes
Even at lv 60 I aggroed Scholomance because I didnt dismiss my pet and at 70 our hunter's pet suddenly aggroed the boss in Mechanar while we were drinking. Accidents happen, pulls go awry...some people are not always paying attention. Hell...a lv 70 Pally in our guild is a pretty good solo healer, but so chatty, we lost our tanks more than once through him typing on msn ^^.
Just happens..live and learn...but do party with guild mates..PuGs are bad enough at the times when you need them...though I admit to having awesome Pugs and awful guild runs ^^

to OP: i could have written your post :) I don't play a lot as well and get called newb sooo many times but i still enjoy playing and i have some friends online who can help me out sometimes even they being many levels higher. I can not keep up with their speed of levelling but they don't mind. I can still give them stuff in return in form of materials or potions or whatever. So a tip could be to cherish some nice people as online friends who can help you instance when you need it.

OP; not everyone will be good at playing WoW. Maybe you're that kind of player? And if so, you'll need to rely on others to help steer you in the right direction.
But all that matters is that you're having fun. Try to group w/ people that are willing to share knowledge and help. Stay away from those who don't bother to give you a chance.

I totally misread this, and thought you aggroed Scholo while drinking in Mechanar. I almost feel let down after re-reading it, as I was about to bow to your awesome pulling power :)
To the OP:
PvP is evil, I got totally destroyed at first too. Don't worry, it just needs two things.. experience.. and good keybinds! Once I stopped clicking with the mouse, and mapped the stuff I needed most to keys, people weren't able to run rings around me, and it actually felt like I wasn't a big ol' target dummy. It takes a bit of playing before you get used to the keybinds, so you can get to whatever you need quickly, but once you do, things feel a lot less complicated.
Other than that, PvP just needs some familiarity with the layour of the terrain, where everything is and so forth- it's awfully stressful at first, wandering about lost, getting ripped to shreds. However, once you get the hang of it, it can be surprisingly fun.
I so agree with all of the above. WoW is entertainment and you need to keep it that way. Unless you are chinese or an eBayer it isn't going to pay the bills or put food on the table.
I have played since gold and so far onlay have one toon past 60. I didn't PvP at all until a few months ago. I did give WoW a break of nearly 3 months but picked it up again just before the Xmas holidays.
Started a horde toon for a change (I was always Alli before) and just played at my own pace. I like solo play so that I am not tied in to playing when I have had enough.
One tip: When you get a toon to 18/19 do play the BG's. It is fun because there is no real downside. Kit doesn't suffer and as long as you are not too bothered about winning, all it costs is ammo (I was a hunter). I don't use potions as they cost money.
The upside is that after a while you will have enough WSG tokens to get a nice blue to see you through the next few levels.
Some people complain about twinks. Well I have played against twinks and yes they are a pain but I really don't care. If my side wins the BG I get 3 tokens if they dont I get 1. When I get bored I just turn off WoW and do something else. The twinks have insecurity issues so we should pity them :)
Oh, and those level 70's who call you a noob - most usually they are fools who have raced through the levels and don't know the answer to you question. Those who give you an answer are the ones who took the time to look around during their ascent.
Have fun

while i haven't been called a noob that many times, or kicked from PuGs, since i've only been playing wow for 3 months, i consider myself a pretty big noob. there are parts of the game i just have no idea about. i hardly understand the other classes except my own. i don't know the other professions well except my own. but i mean that's to be expected considering 3 months is way less than 2+ years.
i think you got the right attitude. screw people who think they're better than you and just play the game your way. also, there are tons of resources on the web to make the experience more enjoyable. you should check them out.

I suck at PvP too. I go into the BG for a change of pace. I tend to get caught standing behind my pet trying to Pew Pew, cuz that's what I do in game most of the time. I am learning to move a bit, but in the end, I realize the true PvP folks will wtfpwn me all the time.

Play time 23 days or so. I still learn things of the game but as long as u have fun its ok :)
A friend of mine that i got to play have 3 lvl 70 and he has played for 4 month. He raids alot and dont realy likes it any more and tells me he want to make more alts like i do, but dont have the time for alts cuz of raids.
So dont worry and have fun, play some more alts and relax :)

It is your $15 bucks a month. You have a life outside of WOW that limits your playtime....many of the people who call you newb don't have that.
I do stupid stuff all the time, last night for instance. I was sapping in Shadow Labs (the 5 pulls with the shadow priests) and forgot to stealth as I approached. We all had a laugh and ran back to our bodies. Have fun and enjoy the game. As long as you are having fun, doesn't matter what level you are.
