we just started an arena team, 2v2 , as something for 2 of us to do when not in instances, and after a few wins and few defeats, am wondering how the arena points are calculated , esstentially i just want to know do you get points if you lose more than you win in a week or do you get nothing?
what happens if you break even ?

also for those interested we its me(druid) and a rogue , and the strategy is simply kill either the one that can heal or the one that wears cloth , the biggest problem we've had is 2x mages and easiest for us was a shammy and warrior, they turned up three times in a row against us and were completely destroyed each time.

Points are calculated on the basis of your rating on maintenance day.

You must have played at least 10 games that week to get any points. Obviously, the higher your rating, the more points you'll get. You'll want to check http://www.themmonetwork.com/points.php to figure out exactly how many points your rating will give you.

As a beginning team, you can expect to face weak competition, so you'll often be able to sap one player and kill the other, even classes that should be able to break sap. Obviously, as you progress in ranking, this will stop working.

2 mages is pretty ludicrous, they have insane burst potential and can easily get out of melee range = problem for druid and rogue (both melee, slow heals from druid). Sap can work if they don't have Iceblock, CloS and hope they fire their instant pyros into them... meh, don't worry too much if you lose that matchup.

I too just joined a 5v5 team. Not going so hot right now. I'm thinking it could be that 5v5 is where the big cheese hangs out . Regardless, It shows that I've accumulated 265 points after only 1 week. If this is the case, the gloves I want could be purchased after only a few weeks? I believe the cose for them is 1250 or less honor points. How is gear collected timewise? Does point accumulation slow down after a while? Should I join a 2v2 or 3v3 team in the meantime since the level of competition is somewhat less until my gear/skill level improves?

Opinions? Joining a 3v3 team today with hopes to accumulate more honor quickly. I know honor points depend on win/losses but anyone with arena experience have tips/information on how long it takes on average to get the arena gear?

Points come in every tuesday when they are tallied up.

You can google wow arena calculator to see how much points you get in each brackets based on your points.

If you are getting 300 point sa week, it'll take you 4 weeks to get the 1200 points item.

I also have a question so it doesn't matter if you played like a ton of games like 100 and kept winning and losing with your rating staying around 1400 because of this? Also do killing blows count as anything?

First off...no, killing blows count as nothing. It only accounts for whether you won or you lost your match. The amount of arena points you recieve every week, I believe are based upon your Rating.

When you square off versus opponents that are of a similar ranking to your team you will earn 15 points. If you are up vs a higher tanked team you may win more. I have been in 2v2 arena's for 6 weeks now, and the most I have ever gotten from a match was 18 rating points.

You need to play a minimum of 10 games to qualify to recieve points at Tally point Tuesday's.

It makes no difference if you play 100 games and are 60-40 for the week with an increase of 300 rating points, or if you played 18 games and were 18-0 and increased 300 rating points. You will end up getting the same amount of Arena points for the week.

It's also worth mentioning that 5v5 earns you the most points per rating. A rating of 1500 (starting rating if you can maintain that) will earn you about 500 arena points in 5v5 and 20% less as you go down in match size. That means that it would take about 1700 rating in 3v3 to earn the same amount as 5v5. Just look up a calculator, and figure out the points you will earn. 2v2 requires something like 1850 rating to get that 500 points.

Don't bother with the numbers I listed, as they are most likely inacurate and I was too lazy to actually estimate well in my head, just know that points you earn from rating are most in 5v5, 20% less in 3v3, and another 20% less in 2v2.

edit: I also thought I'd confirm that you need a total of 10 games per week to be eligible for any points at all. Any extra players will need a total of 30% of the total games played per week to earn points as well.

This might be a big noob question but does it matter how many teams you are in?
So if i was in a 2v2 and a 3v3 is my ratings and therefore points calculated as a total or individual?

AFAIK you only get the points for whichever team rating gives you the most.
So if your 2vs2 team yields you 300 arena points, but your 5 vs 5 team would yield you 350, then you will end the week with the points from your 5 vs 5 team.

That is correct. You only get points for the team which yields you the most points that week. So if one week you got a rating which gave 500 points in 2v2, 475 in 3v3, and 570 in 5v5, you would get the 570 from 5v5.

If next week it was
2v2 - 615
3v3 - 480
5v5 - 550
you would get the 615 from 2v2.

It does not matter how many games your team plays (as long as its more than 10). All that matters is what your rating is

Rating is earned by winning, and lost by losing. The amount of rating gained or lost is based on the ratings of the teams playing.

As stated, if you are in multiple team, you earn the points from the team that got the most.

Also as stated, the smaller size teams earn less points. 5v5 earns 100%, 3v3 earns 80% and 2v2 earns 60%. (This is done to offset advantages certain groups can have in 2v2 and 3v3 play).

OK, I also have some points questions, correct me if I'm wrong here:

Me and my wife have had our mains on hold for a while, a mage/hunter duo, but are thinking about forming a 2vs2 team and do our 10 games per week for laughs and collecting points to upgrade our weapons.

I suspect we are neither spec:ed or geared right nor skilled enough to win much, so we don't have any ambitions about rating.

But, if we do our 10 games/week and possibly reform the team to neutralize our rating if things go brown, we should be able to get at least around 250 points/week?

Edit: I used the calculator, and 200p/week seems more reasonable?

@MammaMu: Its completely reasonable as that is what most of my guild is doing at the moment. Play our 10 games on monday night or earlier if we get time just for kicks and giggles not really caring what our rating is, just to get the points, while we are more concentrating on raiding. Some weeks are good, some are bad, but we usuallly average 250 to 300 points a week with spikes on some of the better geared teams of 400-500. Once we've got things on farm in Kara, we'll reform the teams and actually give it a go.

a 1200 rating in 2v2 will earn you about 205 points a week... if you lose 10 rating per loss it it will be 3 weeks before you're earning less than 200 points...

win a few games and you'll have no problem earning 200 a week, have fun =)

Thanks for the replies guys!
Great, then we will have our Arena weapons by the end of the summer, good enough for us. Not that they will help us that much, but at least we will LOOK good ;-)

I didn't notice that at all nor have I read about it in the patch notes. Where did you hear this?
