Hey all.

i no longer play WoW and to be perfectly honest I didn't play on an RP server when i did. But I am a budding writer myself and I get terrible writers block sometimes. When i'm not writing, I don't know what to do with myself. I have been looking for something that will help me improve my craft (even if it's not contributing to my current project) and I stumbled across the Open RP's on the official site (sorry if that's a swear word :azn: ) but without an active WoW account i cannot contribute there. Then I came across this site and have got all excited.

Basically, what I am saying is: I am (imo) a very creative person (with a love of WoW and fantasy in general) but I have never done any kind of RP before  but it is something I am quite excited about now and can't believe it's never occured to me before.

I am pretty up to date with all the new lore regarding BC but it can't hurt to brush up some and I reckon I will spend a week (or two) reading all I can here to get the feel of the place and the flow of the stories. Plus I understand the other rules (god-modding etc.) and will certainly endeavour to brush up on these.

My first character (should i feel confident enough to start) will be a hybrid of the 60 human Rogue female i had and a character i have created for a story I am currently working on. And then I suppose I could branch out from there.

But my questions (finally) are:
(sorry if these have been answered before)

1) First of all, am I, as a complete RP Naab welcome to give it a shot?

2) I understand the OOC aspect and the character profiles OOC pages. And the STF pages. But once thats all done and absorbed, can i just jump in a story or do i have to wait for a new thread to start?

3) I understand that some RP's are more popular than others so some might disappear of the boards, but how often are new threads started?

4) My WoW rogue had the twin hakkari blades which i fell in love with and never gave up no matter what dropped in BWL etc. If i wanted to encorporate them into my character, is that possible? Is it wrong to use unique named weapons from the WoW realm? Should I perhaps give just a subtle indication that a weapon is in that style. Or just not mention it at all?

5) At the moment I am restricted to the opening hours of the library for internet access (ie: closed sundays) open only 7 hrs a day and my country is of the GMT persuasion. So can only contribute in those hours and on those days.

6) Is there an upper or lower limit on the amount of text and/or contributions a day?

I am busting with questions but i will leave it at that for now. Thanks in advance. :sunny: Any generic or further advice would be most welcome.

Hello and welcome!

I too wouldn't mind playing in an RP story here. I was hoping to join one that was starting up, or just starting. I always feel a bit of the 'odd one out' if I join into a long established story.

At least for here, most storylines seem to have an RP thread, where you play in character, and an OOC thread, where you put up character profiles, make comments and anything else that isn't in character, but relates to the thread.

Each storyline has it's own sort of ground rules, including expected posting rates, character types/abilities/gear, and so on. If you want to join an existing one, I would either post in the OOC thread, or contact the DM storyteller and see what they would find acceptable.

The posting rate here doesn't seem to be too fast, and with the ongoing style, it's not necessary for you to be here to immediately reply to a post. When you log in, you can pick up the story when you get the chance.

I'm open to joining up with a new storyline should it open up. I've also had thoughts of an in-character chat thread, sort of something like this (http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=390127).

Well, I had never been in one of these RP's before either when I joined "World of Azeroth" on this site and the game master liked the very first post I made, so my impression is that it isn't all that hard to join one if you just put a little effort in it...and you sound like the kinda person who does.

Most of the other things you asked about are generally thread-specific. For instance, there are RP's that are based more on some kind of a combat system and rules. And then there are ones that are focused more on storytelling and...at the lack of a better word, ambience.

As for how to get into it...what worked for me was that I read up on these threads for a while to see what exactly do people write there, how do they handle character interaction and a bunch of other details that make up the big picture.
While I did that, I began to think of a character of my own, up until the point I offered to join the story.
When making a character, its a good idea to start with the backstory and then fill in the details with whatever seems relevant for the character's history. For example, if he was an old war hero, you could tell that he has a lot of scars on him...and well, you get the point.
Another thing to consider, especially if you haven't done this before is how will you be able to play your character. For instance, if you just can't think of what moves in a corrupted orc warlock's head, then don't make that character. Or at least for me, it was easier to make a character that has a personality a bit like my own so I can really focus on the writing, rather than keep bothering myself with questions of "what would he do next?". Of course, in a fantasy world some degree of 'simulation' is nescessary. After all, none of us is really an orc or an elf, right?

Well despite the missing posts which might have answered some of my further questions  I sort of have a character outlined.

However the background/history of the character is about 3 pages long, lol  So im just kinda, trying to trim it down a bit. Then i'll start looking around a bit for a story to drop into. I gather Azeroth is the only one running at the mo. I've read most of it :wink2: and i like it, but i'm kinda worried it's too far along to make a mark on.

But i'll continue working on my character and let you know what i choose.
