View Full Version : is this common in PvP?

I posted this in my blog today http://forums.worldofwar.net/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=284801&entry=226

(not a shameless advert)

My point is, and it still annoys me, is that is this common?

For those who dont care to read the blog, the gyst of it is that I got targetted by a horde PvP player while I was on my mount travelling. He continued to attack me despite me showing no intenet to attack him or return fire. Once I had died and rezzed again, he later followed me to my destination and attacked me again, and again I didnt attack back.

With hindsight I ought to have put up a fight, but I was so surprised both times, and the fact that he was obviously 10-20 levels above me that I didnt.

So is this common in PvP? Bearing in mind its a mainly PvE server. It seems a bit tardish to me tbh.

If it's mainly a PvE server, why were you flagged?

Yes, it's common. If you don't like it- you have the option of PvE servers and not flagging yourself.

I was definitely PvP disabled.

When I passed through the horde outpost after killing the guards, I checked then that my status hadnt changed. When I rezzed the first time I also checked and it was still PvP disabled.

Then to make sure it was working, I clicked enable PvP, at which point I got a message on the screen telling me I was PvP enabled, and then immediately clicked it again to disable PvP, at which point it told me something about I would need to be in a friendly area for it to work.

Therefore I can say that it is possible the 2nd time he got me I may have been PvP enabled because it hadnt time to change back, but certainly the first time was PvE only.

EDIT:

There seems to be 2 issues here; 1) that the PvP/PvE enable seems a bit screwey, and 2) since when did it become good gameplay to act like a school bully? Maybe I live by different rules :ponder:

If you'd been killing guards you would have been flagged - I guess you I didn't notice the little PvP icon or it was bugged.

You probably get less of that on a PvP server, I play on PvE and as you don't tend to run into the odd lone person PvP flagged when you do there's a lot more appeal/novelty to attacking them.

yup if you killed guards you were flagged, regardless of weather it said you wernt.

and well if it said you need to be in a friendly area, that would suggest you were in a area which auto flags you regardless of server type i.e horde in stormwind.

and hes not a "school bully" he saw you were flagged he was flagged, so for him you were fair game, regardless of level difference(or the situation of the flagging)

Don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the game. Get upset when a player of the opposite faction is 10+ levels higher than you and comes to your questing area and enables their PVP and purposefully stands on top of your kill, hoping that you will right click on them and get you into a fight. Now that kind of player is a true piece of feces.

If I see a low level PvP player, I smile and wave. If they totally ignore me, then I gank them for being rude.

You don't have to kill a guard, if you cause any damage to them at all you will be PvP flagged, so, if for example you are a druid and you have thorns on, the instant one hits you your pvp will turn on. I fell foul of this on my priest with the undead racial talent, can't remember what it's called now ;?

Haha, what a great philosophy. I also ignore players who are quite a bit lower than me, unless they are dumb enough to attack me first.

/whine.

i play on a pvp server and thought nothing of being ganked until i made the trip over to booty bay and stv..

i had literally stepped foot into stv from bb and was immediatly jumped by alliance.. i thought hmm maybe a once off. i was wrong!

i consider myself to be pretty nice and 99% of times if i see an allly farming or watever beside me, regardless of lvl i will just wave or ignore him. if they are brave enough to attack me then its on!

anyways you should create a toon on a pvp server and witness what its really like. i had played on pve before pvp and it just wasnt for me.

pvp ftw

Check your toon picture on screen. When you're flagged, the little sheild-looking-thing shows up on the left edge of it. That's how you tell if you're flagged, which you most definitely were after killing guards.

In order to disable PvP, you have to be in friendly territory, and out of combat, for 5 minutes. So, when you rezzed, you were still flagged since you had not met that criteria.

And when you're flagged, you're fair game to any level, whether you resist or not. That's what PvP is all about.

Yes, and yes. Many people will claim that it is part of the game, but I don't think that is gamesmanship. I mean if I'm driving my ferrari down the road is it really cool of me to pester some housewife in her caravan to try to get her to race? And when she doesn't race, run her off the road? Granted, if she pesters me I'll race her, or if she is hounding somebody driving an old alfa I'll stick up for italian cars, but otherwise I'll wait for a porsche to race.

I don't have a ferrari, but I'm sure you get my point :)

EDIT : Also, you say you are on "mainly PVE server", does that mean it is actually a PVP server but most people PVE on it?

EDIT TWO : On the other hand, like somebody said, you did attack their guards so in this case you may have deserved at least one killing.

when you attack a guard or even run too close to them it flags you for PVP. Attacking guards also sets off the local and world defense channels. The main reason people "ping" the channel by killing guards is to get a little PVP action going.

So they see
"Crossroads is under attack"
"Crossroads is under attack"
"Crossroads is under attack"
"Crossroads is under attack"
"Crossroads is under attack"
And they think "Woot! about time we got some action around here!"

Or you killed a quest giver among the guards and some low levels called in a friend or one of the low levels grabbed their main to let you have it for attacking their town.

All in all if you flag on a pve server you will get exactly what they think you are asking for .... pvp.

STV is like Vietnam. All levels go there for guerilla warfare. It's like initiation into pvp.

Personally I like to go to Hillsbrad for world pvp because I can mine some Mithril while I'm there. When I was a low level toon in these zones I was ganked unmercilessly time after time. Later on, when venturing into Hillsbrad I would ignore Horde lowbies because of how bad it sucked for me when I was there. Then the lvl 70 mage that is helping the lowbie pops out from behind a wall somewhere and 2 shots me. From now on, anytime I'm in these zones I will kill any and all Horde without question or remorse. Lvl 20? I like to hit my trinkets and wind up for a fat aimed shot to see how high I can get the crit.

Just a thought, but you might wanna think twice before you run into a horde town. those guys may be ugly, but they wont hesitate to pwn ur @$$. and no matter what, if you damage a horde npc, you'll be flagged, and it won't tell you, so.......you might not wanna mess with those ugly peeps

No, I really don't think it is.

I've played on Aggamagganagananaga... that server, Detheroc, and I currently play on Kalecgos. All three are PvP servers. You'll always have someone camping you, and you'll always have high levels coming to kill your alts, but generally people won't chase you down for a long time just to kill you.

STV is like Vietnam.

more like vietnam on crack :D

im level 62 and i flew to grom gol and hopped on my mount to head towards booty bay to grab the level 125 fishing book, and remembering back to leveling there in my 30's, i just had a bad feeling. about half way there i got ambushed by 2 level 70 warlocks, level 70 warrior, abd a level 70 hunter all at once...lol... didn't even get a chance to dismount. at least they didn't camp me though.

i actually find humor in that type of situation. my health went from full to empty in like .2 seconds. i was just like "damn wtfpwnt lol"

all that for a fishing book lol

just try not to let it bother you.

cheers

Yup.

PVP, PVE, no matter. You kill guards you're asking, even begging to die.

Worse I think in PVE as it is a choice you make.

No hard and fast rules for me.. generally if there's a gray player alone, I'll ignore him. If he starts attacking, I'll fight back. If there's a group of greys and I'm alone, I'll kill them. If there's a grey and a green, I'll kill them both. I look at the overall picture and the threat that the nearby enemy players pose for me overall (this is for a PvP server.)

And if I highly suspect the enemy player is a bot, I'll try to kill them regardless (whether they're grey or skull)

i pretty much follow that too amurko. but one other thing i look out for is if i just revived a fallen allied player and then shortly after i come across an enemy, i just assume they are the one who killed my mate and tear into em lol.
