View Full Version : Would be nice if this glitch actually worked!

I often inspect higher-level druids to get a feel for what gear I'm going to be looking for in later levels. I was near the inn in Shattrath City this morning and saw a druid standing nearby, so I clicked "inspect" and had to take a screen shot when I got to his belt.

I asked him about it and he said it must have been a glitch, because the real stats were MUCH less impressive. I closed the window, tried it again, same thing.

Has anyone ever had anything like this temporarily happen?

It is a known bug and should have been fixed in the last patch, should be fixed in the next patch.

actually there is a program that you can purchase where you can change certain stats. a guildie bought it used it and was ejected from our guild. it took him many tries before getting it to work, but his stats were all over 20 k.
not saying that this person used it but they are out there.

Yes this is true, I have seen that program in various places.

It talks about manipulated some files in your WoW directory, or something to that sort.. It made no sense to me so I never bothered, figured it was highly detectable.

Is that player still around or did he get the GMban?

to the best of my knowledge he did not get banned, he was reported several times and last that I knew he had went to a different realm. He had tried to get us all to use it but I didnt do it because of TOS and the other reason, it took him approx 2 weeks to get it working correctly. It takes alot of searching with a special program and unless someone inspects you, blizz can not detect it on their own. It was just was something I and the rest of the guildies didnt want to be involved with.

well not all items are from using that program, friend of mine found a similar item with seemingly awesome stats, however when you stick it on you get the bonus of the real stats.

of course if the stats were applied for real, it would be noticable for sure, for example if my shaman had been wearing that belt with all the attack power on it, you would carve up the entire AV alliance team in seconds.

and the crit would be through the roof as well as having raid boss like health

Hmm but to my knowledge, gear and stats are all stored as entries on the server, not in the client. Otherwise, everyone would be running around with godmode hacks. I don't really buy this, all of this stuff is done serverside, and a client-side hook cannot hack the server and change the stats of items.

EDIT: Though I may be wrong.

Interesting. That means that these calculations are likely done client-side. Very interesting, and suprising.

I wonder how many of those mass bannings were related to that now.

Edit: To the guy above me-
It's possible it's done client-side. There would be lots of calculations for the server to perform if everyone connected to a server had to have damage and stat effects calculated server-side. It's very possible they added this to the client, and simply made hacks highly detectable with Warden.

well I know it is possible, some things are stored on your pc, just very very very hard to find and decifer. Blizz may say different but it is there but with out a program that knows what to look for , it would take months to figure it out. I actually was sent the program by this person to use and it does work. But I'm not willing to try it and lose my access. It is a very time consuming process and uses alot of memory and such to run it, I think it took about 3 days to get the address of where the info was stored and you couldnt play during that time. Plus I got on the email list of this company and over the last week have been getting emails about other programs that are avail. To me that isnt fun if you have to cheat to play a game.

Uh, I doubt they'd need to find the address on every execution. Have you ever read the sourcecode of a modern wallhack/aimbot? It'd inject itself into the engine and hook predefined functions and addresses, it wouldn't have to go through the process of testing each and every function and address every time the program is installed/run, only every time Blizz change things of such nature. It may take the developer 3 days to find the correct functions and addresses to hook, but not the client itself each time it's executed. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this kinda stuff, but I have a basic idea down. But I may be wrong here, I know alot about the Quake3 engine, and the hacks written for it, but the WoW engine might be ENTIRELY different when it comes to this.

My guess is the hack only changes the display on the client side. Since the character data is stored serverside, I guess you could trick the client into showing you have 65k ap, but the server would still know your actual stats. At least that's how it worked in the previous mmoprgs I played - there were "hacks" that tried sending diffrent things to the servers, but they always got rejected or detected right away.

And it would be very easy to detect hacks like this for blizzard, they would only have to parse the logs looking for high numbers.

I'm sure Blizz is aware if you are two shotting Onyxia and soloing Molten Core though...don't you think?

This sounds like a keylogger scam to me. They want you to install it, log in, get your password, but then to stay off your account for 3 days to they can steal all your stuff without you noticing.

The reason I say this is because it reminds me of an "item dupe" scam on my last MMO. The scam page wanted your username / password and what gears you wanted gears duped. It said at the bottom that you should not log in for 2 days after submitting to have your item duped (so they had time to loot your account).

Now, this one is much more complicated (better excuse, not directly asking for username/pw) but I still wouldn't trust it, even if I did want to cheat.
