Irfanview is what you seek.
Well, that and a good anti-virus program.

Well, my OS just opens them natively (and doesn't have any of those pesky virus problems) However, since I doubt you will want to switch, then I'd suggest the same application Valas Azuviir did.

Irfanview for the win. works good for resizing pics too.

You can also go for a trial version of Photoshop (best program ever) but I don't know if the trial version is limited by time or features... if it's limited by features than it would be perfect :)

paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html) a free replacement for the standard windows paint.

Post-patch they will be saved in .jpeg format, meaning that you don't need anything but your operating system to open 'em.
Not positive whether those patch notes were final, though.

that will be very nice. I love Photoshop (and you can only download a trial, the actual version costs upwards of several hundred clams). I hate having to open up a new program just to see what I took pictures of.

While lovely, it's expensive commecial software- downloading a full version would make you a nasty pie-rat. It's also possibly overkill to just view pictures- though for anyone who needs to manipulate images and likes the job done properly, it's almost without equal (no nasty cludged colour model precision reduction in unexpected places unlike other things, yay).

Irfan view is a great viewer, and has a really decent/fast thumbnail browser though, it's full of Win and Awesome.

If you really need something to manipulate images and aren't going to pay the silly price for Photoshop (nearly twice as expensive in Europe, I so love Adobe), there's always GIMP. It's a bit rough and ready and can confuse people, but it's free. There's a windows port at:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

However, Irfanview is probably just fine for most folks. It's quick, easy and effective :)
