Everyone on my server is a hunter....OK it just looks that way LOL
I like warlock but if you remove the 2 classes with pets ( used or not )
what class is the best solo leveler without a pet?

I got asked this last night and I have no idea.
Hunter and warlock have a mini tank that they can use and like a lot of people say hide behind. Its also nice to be solo leveling with something to watch and kind of interact with to me it just feels weird being out there alone LOL

boy I bet I get some people wound up on this one.

Id Say Catform Druids lvl really quikly, just pop in cat, nuke, pop out and heal over time after a fight, there is pretty much no downtime. Mages are great for aoe grinding and can make their own food / water so they are pretty quick

Everybody will probably have their own opinion on this and I strongly believe in the expression that the best class in WoW is the class that you play the best, which will be different from person to person.

That being said, I am finding my Paladin to be one of the easiest to solo with as he has the armor and strength of a warrior but the added ability to heal himself. Of course, ymmv

I like Rogue for Solo. No mana to be concerned with. Stealth lets you solo quests you may not be able to do otherwise. Lvl very fast with good crits. (get agility, stamina gear). Got to lvl 20 in a weekend, died 1x due to stupid mistake on my part.

Twinked or non-twinked? Also I would say either rogue or mage since they are pure dps and in theory should be able to kill mobs the fastest, the only question is downtime. In theory rogues should have less but AE may more than make up depending on your skill at it, also porting does save a lot of transport time...

Druid. No other class comes close.

Before the 2.0 patch wasn't it very difficult to level and PvP as a Druid? Glad to hear they got some good buffs because from what i understand it used to be a totally broken class.

Druid. No other class comes close.

Yeah, either a feral druid or a rogue. I am now leveling a rogue and I find that I can fly through mobs and not even stop for abut 10 mobs that are green or yellow to me. Grinding is not so bad on him, I grinded about half a level last night. Something I never did on my 70 druid... ever.

i've never created a druid, but a rogue was my first toon so i'd have to go there. plus as others have mentioned, it is very nice being to stealth into a quest pickup and get back out and not have to battle ur way in when u don't have the time to. that being said my last toon was a shammy and i was very impressed at how fast he could lvl lower lvls, but once i hit around 50 it seemed to slow down alot and i was using far too much mana that i thought i should have been. it was particurally rough not have lvl 55 drinks available at all locations to restock on cuz i really needed them. lvl 45 drinks didn't even cut it for me when i was lvl 45, much less 55 and up to 59. i created a preist last night to satisfy guild wishes and i have done a priest in the past on another server and enjoyed it. but i absolutely refused to spec anything other than shadow till i get to 50 or so LOL.

Even before 1.8 (Druid patch) Druids rocked as solo pve, they just were slow to kill. (In both ways, to down mobs and to be killed.) Now they have among the highest DPS, can stealth, highest armour, can self-heal... There's nothing remotely like it.

And twoflower - I know shamans could/can do that as well. I still wouldn't rank them king of solo PvE. Far as I know, no other class will be able to stealth the back of an instance to kill a boss there. (Possibly excepting rogues, but don't expect them to be able to do it on bosses that are stun immune.)

An AoE mage probably tops those charts--although, I've never actually played one, so I cannot comment with surety. Shadow priests and a well-equipped rogue are on the same level.

Feral druid (after level 32). Rogues used to be faster at killing single mobs than cat form, but Mangle + Omen of Clarity procs eat through everything right now. It's like opening up with a dagger spec and fighting face to face with a sword spec. And then there's bear form that can take on 3-4 guys without shifting out.

Though I never played one, I was in awe the first time I saw a frost mage at work. This was in Darkshire, and she was taking groups of 4+ out with ease while I was busy backstabbing 1 at a time. It was such a sight that I decided to stealth and watch as she cleared the entire area.

My personal preference is the the Palidan; the ability to heal while soloing is a big benefit. (My main is a Pali, lvl 51)

Mages can solo very well, frost is a little safer than fire but both can work if played correctly.

Ultimately you just need to try them and find the one you are the most comfortible with. I think Warriors are the hardest to solo but I have a friend that thinks they are awesome. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and play style.

I'd also say druid for soloing. The ability to stealth, dps, tank and heal is nice. Geared correctly they can come very close to the class they are trying to mimic. Although for tanking they still seem to have more armor than even the best warriors. Having high armor still doesn't make you a good tank... but it may keep you alive longer than everyone else at which time you'll die because they all focus on you.

I'd agree with feral druids because they have the abilities to fit any situation while grinding and questing. Stealth in and grab the item for certain quests, take 3-4 mobs down at a time, chew through mob after mob in cat form, pop out and take 2-3 sec to heal and back to cat form while you regen mana for the next heal 10 mobs down the line. It's not that they can aoe kill better than a mage, or single kill better than a rogue, but it's that they can do these things with no need to eat or drink and still have the stealth capability. In fact, I wouldn't argue against someone who said they could solo pve better with a druid than a hunter. (btw, I have a druid and hunter. I've played a lock, but not past 60, so I won't compare them.)

Also, I'm not saying that druids are the best class (I can just see my post offending someone) - I'm just responding to the OP's question of solo pve.

I have played a hunter up to 70 a mage to 42 a lock to 35 rogue to 36 and am currently working on a shaman who is now 35.

Out of the classes I have mentioned, the shaman is by far the easiest to level up by solo play and is quicker than a hunter.
I am currently storming through the STV quests and can kill 4-5 Elder tigers before eating or drinking.

Ok my shaman has been twinked a bit.

The best class for me in terms of leveling is an affliction lock so far. I do not use the blue one for tanking but the succi for more DPS. With the right timing and technique I rarely have to sit down to drink/eat. Lifetap + Drain life helps a lot =)
And classes without a pet? I'd say feral druid or maybe shaman.

Dunno, my guild's druid tank (who tanks wonderfully, but will go back to resto just as soon as she gets the chance) is levelling a shammy now, and she is having a hard time believing the versatility and survivability of the little monster, when out knocking off quests. Every now and then you'll get a "Z O M G!" on /g, followed by a manifest detailing the mobs that she just (over)pulled and took down. I don't think she can quite believe the staying power- especially in those situations where you take down a large-ish group, and then have to fight another right away with no downtime.. then another. You're usually dancing on the edge of cooldowns and abilities, but it really is completely ludicrous. In the hands of a skilled player, the dear old Swiss Army Chainsaw shammy is just packed with Win and Awesome(tm).

At least now she knows what I was talking about when I was expressing similar amazement about a month ago on my totemic path to 70 :)

I'd agree that up to 50 enhancement shaman was quite fast provided you kept your weapons current and blue. Post incoming nerf, not sure how true it is. Not saying fast-est. Just that it was reasonably fast compared to expectations.

You're a total slot machine. When you proc right, wahoo, when your luck runs dry - good bye. : )

I'd have to disagree with the overwhelming majority - druids should be disqualified because they have pet trees!

I really enjoyed playing my druid, but I remember it wasn't the "easiest" leveling up to 20. Even then, it wasn't until the 30s that things became "fun."

It's hard to compare to the ease that a hunter has going through the content.

That being said, every class has its strengths. There really isn't a "bad" class to level up with. With an understanding of the strengths and, more importantly, weaknesses of the class -- any class can level rather quickly.

I'm sure you were just being funny but for those that don't know...

The majority of people are saying feral druids, not balance druids, are the best solo pve levelers without pets (the treants that you are talking about are on a 3 min cooldown and last for 30 sec - not only that, but they are a 41 point talent in the druid balance tree making it impossible to really call yourself feral with them. Also, you aren't really leveling with them until level 50 minimum with all your points in balance.)

I have to agree with NOYB here that druids probably aren't the easiest to level up to 20 - though it's pretty easy to level any class to 20. It really is once they get their kitty form at 20 that they become really easy to level with practically no down time. I would still say they are the fastest solo pve class overall from 0-70.

currently leveling a druid (32 right now).. have a priest and mage at 70.. and a hunter in the 40's.. I'd say mage. solo questing with a mage is pretty damn easy... so many options. aoe, ranged nuke, sheep to control multiple pulls.

The reason I asked this question is my Dad.
He is 70 years old and wanted to try the game.
OK I KNOW IS HE NUTS? LOL

Well he has a lot of time on his hands now and I really believe he is just bored.
But he looked at the game and looked at my lock and didn't like the idea of having to control a pet and worry about healing it and other stuff like that.
I believe he is looking for something like diablo style play with very FEW button presses.

I don't know if he would play more than a week so I thought I would just intall the game on his computer and let him play a new chr on my account.
(Can you do this ???) do you do a full install again and just use same passcodes?

Of course it might make him mad to get into the game and then if I bought him a copy and an account he would have to start over...

Druid maybe ???

ANY and all ideas are very welcome.
I am sure I will have to help some but I don't want to make a twink chr for him. HECK I would not know how anyway.

Well if you are looking for ease of play, lack of loads of buttons to push rogue is the way to go. More specifically a combat rogue. They are the most straight forward of the rogue trees. You only have 2 bars to worry about: stealthed(which has about 4-6 skills and ur regular non stealthed action bar. Druids have a lot of nuances to them, and they have 4 action bars iirc. normal, cat, bear and healing(unless the healing goes with the normal bar. Either way its like a warrior with multiple bars to master.

HECK I would not know how anyway.Get him his own account - use one of the freebies in your expansion pack or something... they're easy to come by. Create a character to play with his and put vent or whatever on both your systems and walk him through stuff. It'll be a bonding thing for you both.

I'm guessing he wants something in common with you... something he knows you're interested in and something you can both do together.

i'd still say druid, however when it comes to simple/easy to start you can't go wrong w/a pally.

as far as accounts/trials you have a few options... first you can still get the 10 day free trial copies. Or you can let him play on your account (he just can't log on at the same time as you). Also, if he did create a character on your account that he got really attatched to you can pay the $25 dollar fee to transfer it to another account (as long as the second account has the same last name).
