I'm sure there's a simple answer to this, but I haven't found it....

Why does a wand effect the global cooldown but firing a bow doesn't?

Because one is an instant cast that can be used every .5 seconds (when the GCD is...cooled down) and the other can only be used only once every second or so (depending on it's speed).

if your not a hunter...firing a bow does effect the GCD.

when i hit "shoot" on my warrior...she pulls out her bow...casts for 2.7 seconds...shoots...and then the gcd starts. makes dpsing w/a bow useless.

If you have a hunter, you'd realize how much a GCD on bow shoots would hurt them. You're in effect removing all extra abilities.

Think of autoshoot for a hunter to be the same as attack for a warrior, rogue, etc.

Edit: Hunters rely on a bow for the core of their DPS whereas no caster relies on a wand as the core of their DPS. You can either can spells or wand things; doing both isn't necessary. But having a hunter use its bow and cast things like Arc shot at the same time is necessary.

You've obviously never met any brain-donor grinding priests who swear by wand spec. then :)
