Sorry for the dumb noob question, but I've seen many posts about twinks. I do understand using your level 70 toon to get another toon all decked out. But what's with level 19 and 29? why would you want to level your toon only to those levels? wouldnt you want to go higher if you can?

Because they will be the highest level in Battle Grounds banding, I belive.

Yep, the goal is to go for the best gear available at the top end of the bracket. There are also level 10 twinks and level 15 twinks...but that is only to take advantage of the scaling of your stats.

OK. that makes sense. I kinda figured it had something to do with PVP or battlegrounds. Even at level 32, I still havent made it to a battleground yet.

You should go. It makes the occational nice brake from questing/grinding.

I probably will when I'm ready for my next brake in questing/leveling. I just took a few days to level all of my professions. When I say level, I mean bring it from 1 to at least 150 or 225.

I have a 29 twink hunter that I play with when I am bored with questing/grinding. I also have a 33 mage and a 30 rogue that I am actually leveling to eliviate me from leveling my twink.

Another reason that it's 29 and 19 is they're relativly easy levels to get to, and the gear isn't that great for the average player, while opposed to say level 49, 59 or hell even 39 the gear is fairly decent for the average player. Twinks like to go into the BGs knowing 150% that they will one-shot or two-shot EVERYTHING.

Also, 39, 49, and 59 aren't nearly as easy to get as 19 and 29.

Hmm, almost sounds like I would get my you know what kicked as a 32 non twink.

$10 says if my twink ran into owlx twink I couldn't 1-shot him. Nor could I 2-shot him. I doubt I could 40-shot him to be completely honest. Be careful with the term "everything".

Probably.

However, dying in PvP doesn't hurt you. Sure, you'll need to corpse run if you die in some sort of world PvP, but if you die in a battleground you'll be ressed at the GY with no durability loss of ress illness. If you're a hunter your pet will even be ressed with you, and his happiness will be maxed out.
Finally, wether you're near a hostile player when he's killed or you kill a hostile player will have no effect on the reward given.

Try it, you might be good at it.

Twinks are like hated football players. You hate them when they are on another team and you love them when they are on yours. I wish people would stop crying about twinks for once but it appears that it will never end.

Don't go at 32 for the first time IMO. Wait for a fwe more levels b/c you will get pwned being 32 in a BG - most ppl dont start going to BG's till they're around the "6's at least"

meaning:

16, 26, 36, etc (with the "9's" being the top most point in each tier)

GL - BG's are fun once you get to know them.

Depends on which gear you catch me in.

If I'm rolling my ap/crit gear that just breaks 1000hps in order to sport a 30% crit rating. I'm sure you could pull off a pretty sick ambush/gouge/backstab.

Of course I usually only use that gear when I am in guild runs or I am camping the entrance to og looking for ??'s that inadvertantly flag for pvp while dueling.

In my standard gear set that sits at 1900 hps and 1800 armor........there will be no 2-shotting.

seeing as how I have taken down low 40's on my 19 twink (and even a 60) .......I would say get some levels and gear before any serious bg'ing

I am a fan of the partial twink. I did that with my 29 hunter: got my buddy to run me through Nesingwary's quests in STV where the final MOB's are like 37. The rewards are a bow, pants and chest about 6 levels higher than what you should have. Couple this with some enchants on the BFD sword and the WC sword and you should be ready to roll. The part that you might not know (and I didn't know untill after the 30's) is that some of the best rewards in the game are from BG's and they are often class specific. Not an extra dime was spent on gear except for the mats to enchant and I am happily nuking when I get bored of leveling.

ps it helps to have a guild/group of friends that will also have a dedicated partial twink for those times when you want some revenge in BG's for getting ganked by a ?? while fighting a mob.

I agree with this. I think one of the biggest reasons for 19/29 twinks is the ability to make a low level twink tremendously better than any "normal" player. The difference between level 19 twink rogue ( dual wielding 2 blue weapons, each with crudader or life-steal, and all blue armor with high + enchants) and a non-twink level 19 (green armor and weapons-within a few levels of 19, no enchants on anything) is HUGE! The non-twink would stand no chance 99.9% of the time. The differences that twinking can make lessen as levels go up because talents and skills that all classes learn become more powerful. A 49/59 mage or warlock has high damage output because he is deep into his talents whether he is twinked or not. At 49/59 classes have abilities to counter what other classes will use against them.

Ok, everyone, this is the real newbie question... WHAT IS A TWINK?

Stigg
03-05-2007, 09:54 PM
A person with the best gear available for their specific level, along with the best enchants available for the level of their items.

So my friend who sent me gold when I was level 10 was helping me become a twink? I have the armor/weapon that money can buy.

Not that I know what I am doing with it :) Obviously.

Stigg
03-05-2007, 10:04 PM
Kinda. You do not have the BEST gear money can buy, and I highly doubt you have the enchants either. Which means you are a semi-twink...but at level 10...and with the lack of gear selection, it is hard to mention even "semi"

My 19 twink (total) has about 800g invested purely in gear, then about 200+g invested in fun stupid stuff...i.e. pets.

These characters are *generally* twinked to stay at a specific level so they can PVP. Others, get all the enchants and gear they can at a specific level to make their leveling up easier.

Ok, now I get it. Maybe. This is what I think I get:

It is something people with level 70 characters do with their money to tear new *explictive deleted* for other non-twinked characters in battle so they can get the shiny PvP booty.

Some do some don't.

But this has been discussed to some extent, and I highly doubt anybody wants to start up that conversation again....but if you do...check out this thread....and post in there.
