As I have never been on one, I am curious how honor works on the PVP servers. Does the system work the same as a PVE server, in that you can get the same lvl of equipment with the same honor costs, etc. as on a PVE? Seems like the PVP items would be much easier and faster to get on an actual PVP server.

Exactly the same. Yes, you can accumulate honour points faster on a PvP server, but that is balanced against the slower progression through the levels as you spend so much time fighting off enemies rather than purely questing / grinding.

That would be an interesting calculation...

How much honour do you get out and about and the slower levelling speed vs. faster levelling and more time available to be spent in BGs.

Going on that premise, I would suspect that the PvE way would be quicker.

I don't understand the honour mechanics very well, but the maths must be quite simple...

World pvp is practically dead. The fastest/easiest way to get honor is in BGs. Honor from kills is calculated 2 ways.
1) level of the target you killed ("gray" targets earn no honor).
2) your level.
The higher your target, the more honor you earn. The higher your level the more honor you earn. A L70 killing a L70 will earn more honor than a L60 killing a L60. L70 killing a L65 will earn more honor than a L60 killing a L65.

Most honor however is not earned from kills, its earned from accomplishing BG objectives and from winning.

Not if you're sitting on a 280% bird, patrolling common grinding and questing areas for lvl 66-69.

However, with the cross-realm BGs fully functional and queue times rarely passing 10 minutes, combined with more honor being awarded for killing a single character/group of characters over and over again, you are right.
Back when AV had a 2 hour queue, farming outside blackrock mountain on a PvP server was, afaik, the fastest way to gain honor.

I left my 68 warrior on a pve server, and rolled on a pvp server. Haven't looked back. Not only is it so much more intense, you learn your character so much better. I went from thinking that same level = me being dead to "they're only 4 levels above me, this shouldn't be too hard"

You are correct, when you do bgs, you go against the hardcore pvp'ers. While this is good, it's like learning to box against mike tyson. You never get to perfect your mistakes because they are so much better than you. leveling a character on a pvp server lets you learn at a more normal pace, and you will be better as a result.

Sorry for the longwinded post, just saying I agree with you.

Oh I dunno.. I've always been on the PvE server I'm still playing on, and I'm doing fairly well..

Of course that might just be because the games I played just before WoW were far more PvP-oriented.. my first fight, ever, in WoW was actually a duel which I won.. still, a patient player from a PvE server can get just as good as a PvPer. Trick is to do it a lot, slow down your grinding by doing a bunch of PvP at least once every 10th lvl. Get geared up while you're at it.

Sounds challenging

Yeah, especially if you fly high enough for them to be unable to spot you.
Track Humanoids + Aspect of the Wild, then dive vertically down on them.

Oh btw, I play on a PvE server and haven't been able to afford an epic bird for any of my chars yet, just to clear that up.

LOL that's cool. I was just commenting on the thought of epicced out level 70's on 280% speed mounts swooping down on lower levels in Outland...not directed at you!
