I'm still learning a lot of terms and this one has been coming up a lot in posts.
I just wondered how ones gear can get "nerfed". :undecided: I know I'll probably feel stupid when I hear the answer. Oh well, not the first time.

nerf = made less good
From the Nerf toys I believe, guns etc that fire soft foam bullets/arrows :grin:

we were all new at one point, nerf basically is a term we use to express something getting toned down a notch , ie- items being to powerful, classes being to powerful, abilitys etc.

It will happen to your toon, you will then know EXACTLY what it means.

Good example:
A player has an ablity that makes you feel like you just got hit with a baseball bat when the WTFPWN you. Blizz thinks it is too powerful, they "nerf" the move. They attack you again and this time it feels like you got hit with a soft, toy nerf baseball bat and you wtfpwn them. Blizz now thinks you are too powerful and will nerf you. This is a cycle that will continue untill all players fight like pallys vs. druids - no one wins - its just a 45min dual that both sides decide to forfeit.

Nerf is a term used by people who take a game too seriously. Despite all the changes to mages over the last few major patches, I still have a lot of fun on my mage and really haven't noticed that much of a difference...especially when I'm 2 or 3 shotting regular mobs and soloing elites above my level.

Usually when you hear the word nerf, it means the person is complaining that they're class just got screwed by Blizz.
Blizzard tries really hard to keep the classes evenly matched. And they should, or you'd have 80% of players playing the one class that is tougher than all the rest, and where's the fun in that? Druids just got nerfed pretty bad in on of the recent patches, but you won't hear me whining about it. I'm glad my $15 per month is paying for Blizz to stay on their toes and keep this game so interesting.

Funny story: I didn't know what nerf meant untill I was ~lvl 20 because I was too shy to ask :( good for you.
