i only done arenas for a few weeks on my shaman as resto before retiring my shaman.
as resto you are useful, earth shield makes it difficult for a single target to take you down while you keep your team up.
however i often found that i was nuked to death as soon as the enemy saw me.
plus although i said earth shield was useful against good teams it will get stolen or purged
have to say if it was the choice between a pally healer or a shaman healer, id proberbly take the paladin.
thoguh not sure how its going to be with the upcoming nerf on paladin healing, might not effect arenas much since most battles are over quickly

more info please.
all i can say is in 2v2 and 3v3, they seem to take forever to die, and if 1 heal slips through they heal a godly chunk for a tiny amount of mana
its the only viable spec for areana imo,
enhancement "cough"
elemental "nice burst but i would rather have a healer or a straight dps"
So if u got a shammy an u fancy areana ... nuff said :)
put him on an existing team as a sub and let him play 33% .. nice areana points ticking in each week and who knows, they might always want him on

I play in a 2v2 Arena team. Rogue (myself, Mutilate) and a Hunter (MM spec).
Our toughest matchups are vs Warrior and healer (Paladin or Shaman). Any spec but resto has been simple battles. But man..between me trying to stunlock and interrupt those (what seem like) 0.5 second cast healing spells that heal for 50% or so is insane. If my partner get on the mindset of just killing the shaman and forgetting about the warrior, it gets bad. I mean I remember one 2v2 Arena where I did 14k damage, my partner 18k damage...their shaman did under 1k damage, and their warrior did the rest. We ended up losing that battle because we were so pissed that this shaman would not die...and all he did the whole battle was just heal himself.
You may not have as much fun, but a healing specced shaman has been a tough matchup in a 2v2 arena setting.

I would really like to go elemental in arena as 40/0/21 to get the enhanced healing abilities/mana efficiency but keep the power. I wouldn't think they would be as viable in a 5v5 because there would be more need for healing, but I like the idea of a 2v2 with a rogue partner and a 3 v 3 with a warlock and rogue or warlock and druid.
I think that people who talk bad of elemental builds are not giving enough credit to elemental mastery which gives a 100% chance crit at 100% saved mana which means that your next spell is clear cast. I can't tell you how many times this has saved me in a duel where we are even paced to the danger zone, I berzerk to heal up until my mana is gone, they think they have the upper hand now that I can't cast/heal but then I crit, kite for my cooldown then shock again and its over.
