Unequip it by dragging it to your bag

To be a little more specific:
Open your character screen, open your bags. Select the weapon in the main hand and move it to your bag. Do the same thing in reverse to equip a weapon in any of the slots for main hand, off hand, and ranged.

Well said. To re-equip something you just have to right click the item in your bag. Weapon will go to hand, shield will go to off-hand, gun will go to ranged... Does not work for off-hand weapon, of course.

The UI Item Rack (http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=1263) can do this for you with one click.

Well, I'm a level 15 Undead Warlock & I've tried almost everything (including the methods mentioned above) without any avail. Even if I've destroyed the weapon, it still stays with me...

Tried equipping another weapon?
If not.. well, you could always delete your char and make another.. if that doesn't do the trick..

Awww, come on now!!! 15 levels down the drain???

Warlocks can't wield weapons in their offhand, they can wield offhand-items, sure, but not weapons. Thus wether a weapon says "Main Hand" or not doesn't matter.
Here's something you could try: Learn how to use Staffs, then get 1 and shift+right click it. This'll equip it even if you do have an offhand. If that doesn't do the trick.. well, you could submit a bug report but I dunno wether getting a GM to do something about it would even be faster than grinding up 15 lvls. Once you've done it once, the second time is MUCH faster.

Ok, make a screenshot of your character in WoW with the problem. You convert tga's (in which WoW stores screenshots) to jpeg's with a program like Irfanview, you then use a program like Paint to circle what exactly you're on about.
Then host said picture at say photobucket and put a link in this thread, because I got the distinct impression the lot of us are not properly communicating and understanding what the problem is and how it can be resolved.

N. B. - If anybody would like to see any other screenshots, please feel free to ask me.
P. S. - I can wield the wand if I want to by pressing 'z' when I'm wielding the mining pick. If anybody wants to take a look at me wielding the wand, please feel free to ask me...

Take the pick off your tool bar? Replace it with the attack icon from your spell book.

I'm not sure why you are trying to use the mining pick and skinning knife as weapons because there are much better weapons available especially at your level. Anyway, remove the pick/knife from your action bar and replace with the "attack" icon from the general tab of your abilities/spellbook. When you use the attack button your character will attack with whatever you have armed in your main hand.
It also looks like you are trying to equip the knife in your offhand while the axe is in your main hand, Warlocks cannot dual-wield. Which means you cannot use two weapons at the same time. I hope i've helped here because it is somewhat confusing trying to figure out what you are trying to accomplish. I've never played a warlock before but I think you should look for a staff with some +int/+sta/+dmg buffs to them instead of trying to use one of the trade tools as weapons, especially if they aren't even one of your trades.
Just as a side note: If you do become a miner or a skinner, you do not have to equip either the skinning knife or pick axe to use them in the profession.

Going to try out the method of removing the mining pick from my action bar and replacing with the "attack" icon from the general tab...

I know & that's why I want to get rid of the mining pick, but the thing is I've got the mining pick stuck as my main hand weapon. I want to use the dagger (which can be seen in the small blue pouch) as my weapon which I'm not being able to...

Don't put the Dagger in your action bar.
Open your Character Sheet ('c') and your backpack ('b'). Drag the weapon you want to use from your backpack to the left Hand icon.

Figured it was something like this. Ok, picture time.

Now the blue circle is the attack skill icon, its look can differ per class. You will find the attack skill under the general tab of your skillbook. Press K, iirc.
Ok, the red circle is your main hand.
The yellow circle is your off hand.
Whereas the green circle is the ranged weapon slot.
Wands go into the ranged weapon slot. In order to fire them, you need to move the shoot icon from your skillbook, it too falls under the General tab.
Now, you're a warlock. Warlocks do not dual wield, so putting a weapon into the yellow slot won't work. There are some off hand items that you will find interesting as a warlock, but that's another issue for another time.
Keep in mind that if you equip a twohanded weapon like a staff into the main hand slot, that the off hand slot becomes unavailable.
Both the skinning knife and the pick, should be kept in one of your bags. You do not need to equip them to use them. IIRC, just right click on the animal you want to skin or the ore node you want to mine and the activity will be done.

Thank you so very much! Your method did the trick!!!

Ahem, I'm listening eagerly. You see, this is the very first time I'm playing a MMORPG. I'm basically a FPS player. I know, I should have started with a Paladin, but I actually want to prove that Warlocks rule!!! (too aspiring? maybe!) :azn:

Sometimes it's easier showing folks, than telling them something. Least that's my experience anyway..

Example (http://wwndata.worldofwar.net/item.php?id=13353) and another one (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18602). These are items that some Warlocks carry in their offhands. They tend to wield a dagger or sword in their main, when they carry something in their offhand.
Essentially, it's all about the stats. Which combo nets you the best stat bonusses. You have a staff which grants you +28 sta, +16 int and +20 spell damage? Well, does that weigh up to a main/off hand combo which grants +30 sta, +15 int and +25 spell damage? That's the decision you have to make then, does that 1 point of int weigh up against 2 sta and +5 spell damage.
And that doesn't even take enchantments into consideration yet.
Priests for instance, easier example: They could wield this (http://wwndata.worldofwar.net/item.php?id=18608) or they could wield this (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24378) and this (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19922). Now it's not a completely fair comparison. What with some items being from TBC and some from WoW proper, and even with the latter you will have to take the release time of the instance/dungeon (time wise, so June 2005, january 2006, october 2006, fake dates just to illustrate a point) into consideration.
At one point Benediction/Anathema was definitely droolworthy? Now, it's more a matter of pride really.
Even as a warlock this will be constant tug-of-war for you. What do I pick, what do I aim for, what do I want.
I don't think I can do that if I don't have skinning or mining as my professions, now can I?
Aaaah, figured you had both skills or at least one of them, hence why you even had those items. They are not exactly well suited for normal weapon-use. Though, I guess that Finkle's skinner (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12709) and the Zulian Slicer (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19901) are not half bad, all things considering. But that's another issue.
Tradeskills are Snowieken's department by the by.

No, I'm an Alchemist / Herbalist. I suppose those two are the most preferred professions for a Warlock. I bought the mining pick by mistake... -_-
