Well I'm working my way up through the 30s now, and it shouldn't be *too* long before I hit 40. I'm 33 now but I do a lot of grinding mobs a few levels higher than me with rested XP to lvl up, so hopefully it won't take me long.

Anyway, my question is how do you get a mount at 40? Do you have to be exalted with a certain faction? I'm closest to being exalted with Stormwind than anything, but even that is pretty far off. I spend more time grinding and mining for money than I do questing.

So do you have to be exalted AND put up a certain amount of money? What is it... 100g? I'm at about 60g right now, up from 9g just over 1 week ago. I'm making money fast right now, so the money part shouldn't be a problem for me. The problem will come if I have to be exalted.

The level 40 mount - total cost is 100g, but you get a 10% discount if you are onored with your faction. You can only purchase your own factions mount unless you are exhaulted with another city faction.

Not sure if this is still around....but you also get 10% off if you are rank 3 in PVP...but since ranks are no longer around, not quite sure on it.

And just go to the level 5-10 zone (usually) for your faction and there will be a guy selling it.

If you are a pally/lock, disregard what I have wrote.

Nope, I'm a Hunter. Thanks for the information! I wasn't sure if I needed to be exalted.

gratz to otto on almost being 40 :sunny: I am about to turn 40 and have already bought my mount and everything lol. I'm way too impatient. now I'm just itching to turn 40 and actually ride the thing. Spotted Saber ftw  I really wanted to get a ram but I just don't want to take the time to become exaulted with IF..

Well, you could still buy a mount if you are a Paladin or a Warlock. Just they get quests for their own class-specific mounts.

And it does depend on what faction mount you are going for. Humans have stables all over that you can buy different mounts from. Elwynn, Menethil Harbour, Southshore, and Theramore I know for sure. I don't know of multiple spots for the other Alliance factions.

I'm just sad that I'll lose my white gryphon Winter when I eventually get my epic flying mount. I'll probably have to rethink my names for my mounts. Summer my Chestnut Mare, Autumn my Armoured Palamino, and Winter my Snowy Gryphon. Spring just doesn't sound 'epic' enough.

And what will I name my Netherdrake?

Any idea where a dwarf would buy his mount at lvl 40?

Hey, you don't have to do that! If you prefer you can just tell me. But if you want you can come on over... :)

The only place I know is Amberstill Ranch (sp?) ... it's east of Ironforge, along the road to Loch Modan, tucked up just north of the road and into the foothills of the mountains there.

Also an elite quest available there.

Oh, and best of all, Snowshoe Hares for pets! Hard to click on the little girl as she's running around playing with the bunny ... but so cute once you have one!

Believe it or not I still have yet to explore that area. All the time I spent in that area wen I was in the level 1-20 range and I only recently discovered that area while flying over on my way to Menethil Harbor. I will have to check it out.

The place you were thinking of when you wrote that, does it have any airplanes and/or troggs and dwarves fighting eachother?

If it does: Wrong spot. The IF airfield is only there for the looks (to keep flying fun) and while it is accessible from 2 different routes players aren't meant to go there. I know this because that 1 road requires you to use a bug in the jumping mechanics to get up, and the other requires going through areas without any terrain. Really quite confusing when everything is shining white.

Actually I think so. Then where the heck is this place I'm supposed to go? And no wonder I can't get to that place I was talking about! :)

Can anyone tell me exactly how to get where I need to in Dun Morogh for my mount? I'm leveling fast and am at 36 now. I've got way more gold than I need, so I'm ready to get it as soon as I can.

Amberstill Ranch:

- Run out of IF gates
- Head east towards Loch Modan following the road.
- Keep your eyes to the left
- Eventually there's gonna be house against the mountain wall with a small lake near it. It's a little out of the way, but you can still see it from the road.

I've been to Amberstill Ranch but all I've seen is the little house and some guy. Where are the animals?

Just before the house, on your right as you approach it is an area full of rams. There are 3 people there, The kid with the wabbit, the guy who teaches you to ride and the guy who sells the mounts.

Are you SURE you were at Amberstill ranch? You might have gone to Misty Pine Refuge by mistake.

Yep, positive. It even says it on the screen when you enter the Amberstill Ranch area. I just must be missing the guy with the rams.

Thanks for the info!! I'll check again tonight to see if I can find it.

Well if you're sticking to the seasonal theme...

I'd probably call the Epic "Haru" which means "Spring" in Japanese.

Then since you have gone through all four seasons you have your netherdrake right? You could call it "Equinox"... I figure if "nox" in latin stands for "night", then a black Netherdrake could easily be called that to fit your theme. : )

Better than Solstice which would be nice for some bright fiery mount.

That's just odd. As many times as I've ventured through Dun Morogh I've never seen that. And I've literally run past Amberstill Ranch more times than I can count. Very strange.

Awww man you killed Mr. Amberstill! You brute!!

By the way, my Alliance character's name is Mahotatoham. Why am I telling you this? Because it's actually an offshoot of the name of my first-ever toon, Mahota, who was a Tauren. I've always liked the tough look of the Tauren, and as far as Alliance goes, I think for a little guy the Dwarf is the toughest looking.

Just a good thing that's down below Ironforge at the gates. ;) A level 37 Tauren wouldn't even get inside. Just as my level 36 Dwarf wouldn't get inside Orgrimmar. I've been to the main gate with this toon, but obviously not inside. All my horde toons' homes are in Orgrimmar though.
