How do you get the letter "o" with the 2 dots above it in your character name, when creating a character?

Character names with extra dots above letters, unnescesarry accents and other 'difficult-to-type' -stuff are generally frowned upon.

It looks nice but will actually cause people to avoid interacting with you because its too hard to type your name. Just stick with the normal letters.

I ran into this last night. Someone was giving out free enchants and I gave him a tip, but he had also asked for some mageweave, that I didnt have at the moment. I had tried adding him to my friends list and it told me that he wasnt in the same faction, possibly because I typed his name with the 2 dots above the letter. I just went this morning to try and find him on the armory and I still cant find him. Bottom line is those 2 dots in his name made him loose out on getting soem extra stuff. I'm sure that's not the first time that has happened to people.

to get dots above o like this: ö
Do shift " and then do o. You should get ö
well thats at my keyboard (qwerty, language dutch, should be same as english or american(international) .)

on a mac it's Alt + (the `~) button [to the left of the #1] then hit o
And as other's said it is a bit of burden when adding to friends lists etc.
It's easier to have the person in front of you and selected so that you see their Avatar then enter them into your friends list (you dont have to type their name this way)

On American Keyboards, that generates a capitol letter O. For us, you would need to look up the Alt-#### keys. The only one i know is ü, which is Alt-129.

Stigg, I think you missunderstand. There is a button which does ¨, ^ and the tilde thing, can't use it on the forum it appears, at least on swedish keyboards. If you press so you get the dots and then o, you should get ö. :-)

No spaces, and there s a long list of rules they must fall within.

I think a nice summary of them is "Don't choose a freak name."

For those of you that can't decipher it, it means, "Stigg is the greatest god of them all. We should all praise and worship him, and make lamb sacrifices to him hourly at the altar we created for him."
Thanks Gorny, but you really shouldn't have.

Two things.
First, why start over? When you have a WoW CD key, you can upgrade your trial account to a real account without loosing anything.
Second, you are aware that the burning crusade is an expansion pack to World of Warcraft, so you need to buy a copy of World of Warcraft first, right?

On UK English keyboards there is no short cut (that I know of) to create an accented letter without using ASCII codes. For that reason it is particularly annoying, as an English player, to see names with accents in game as, unless you are able to target the character directly, there is no means to /who, /whisper, /invite or /ignore, etc.
Clearly it's up to the individual if they want to exclude English players in that way but it is something to bear in mind.

When I need to talk to someody with an annoying name like that, I do /who then whatever portion of their name I can ctually type. Then, a quick right-click, whisper, and you are there. Still fairly worthless, IMO....especially when you are only trying to get the 90th variation of Legolas..LegolÄs

That website is a government conspiracy attempting to down-play me taking over the world. you mean you can't pick up the subliminal message that pops across your screen at 100,000 hz? It says, "Kill Stigg"

So will german players who live in the US still know what my name means? By the way Gorny, I miss the character in your avatar. :(

I'm pretty sure that any German folk that see 'Hollenhexer', as opposed to 'Höllenhexer', will know exactly what your name means. The umlaut(sp?) should be understood if the rest is spelled right.

08-05-2007, 07:43 PM
Well it you've haven't been to the OT section yet and viewed my post, its supposed to mean Hell Warlock.

I did see that post. I don't think that the meaning will be lost in translation due to the missing umlaut.
