View Full Version : Against the rules?

Is it against Blizzard's rules on WoW if you ask someone to be your BF or GF? I'm not wanting to do this but it has to do with a strange encounter I had with another player.
Apparently, mentioning that you HAVE a 'BF', and are Male, is against the ToU, because it stirs up the kiddies into a homophobic rage.
Asking someone wouldn't be, unless it became harassing.

Well I was considering both male and female thus I said BF or GF. I'm straight. Well I encountered a female Troll Shaman player being a male Orc Warlock. She accused me of sending her hate mail, when I never met her before. She said she would only believe me if I became her BF on WoW. Of course for all I know she could be a guy online play as a female. You never know these days. I just don't want to be the source of her banning, if she's banned for asking me.

Sounds like that one needs a banning though.

She can get banned for that, since, well, that is harassment.

This is what ignore lists are for. If no such mails exist then you won't be banned.

Although this situation is different, I see "boyfriends" and "girlfriends" possibly being viable and fruitful on an RP realm.
We all know that players that are dating/married play...I doubt there would be too much of a problem for their characters (IG) to be dating.
It's all fun and games until your wife comes home one night and catches you talking ot that hawt Belf female.
And I also highly doubt Blizz would be discriminatory against homosexuals. If somebody complains about it, it is there problem.

re char gender: that means nothing as well. After all a friend of mine, who's a guy, has a female paladin whereas one of my 2 chars is a male. But our choices were mostly because he thought female blood elfs looked cute, whereas I thought female orcs looked like big foot and males looked a bit less insulting to look at

Thats different. That is exclusion..which is what is of course, frowned upon by all parties. What I am referring to is simply not caring whether in game, characters posess hetero or homosexual tendencies....so long as it does not disrupt gameplay.

Ah, yes. That's why I never see all Finnish guilds or all Swedish guilds on my server. Because that would be exclusion. Waiiitttt a second...
By the way, the original example wasn't exclusion because it was a 'gay-friendly' guild, which means gay people and their friends. Perfectly possible for straight people to play in the guild. The only people that would be excluded would be homophobes, which, well, should be excluded from the whole game as far as I'm concerned.
Sorry to go off-topic, btw. Someone posted a really 'hilarious' experiment recently where someone deliberately intended to act the way your troll is acting. The idea was basically to get people to agree to a WoW relationship and then see how much gold they would give for being someone's boyfriend online. She/he got warned for abuse/harrassment I think.

huh?
I sure hope you don't become the supposed BF or GF over a game, without actually...you know...MEETING them....
It is really a bunch more fun when you can actually be in the same room once in awhile....

I maybe a nice guy and will help others with quests I've done before but I'm not very generous.
As for Homosexuals. I have no problem with their kind. I don't see it as an act of evil like a lot religious loonies do. The only type of people I have a problem with are vegetarians and PETA.

Right on the nose, I'd consider this a case of harrassment myself and I'd be wielding the baka hammer of banning/smiting +5, if I were a GM, to eliminate the problem.
And let's not start the whole gay-friendly thing again.. Was enough flaming in that thread to have warrented a lot of temp bans.
Anyway, GMs have been sent on a .... sensitivity.. course.. Not quite sure what else to call it, mind is currently drawing blanks. ah well.. So, this should not be an issue any longer.
Oh and Hollenhexer. There's being a nice person, and then there's being a doormat.. I like helping folks as well (and I've pointed out a lot of things to mostly younger players, mostly with regards to rush less, think more, you'll live longer), but if a person proves to be a pain in my backside, then onto the ignore list they go. Got better things to do than to deal with their drama sessions, plus some folks just don't want to be taught.
Fine.. Whatever, got enough to do as is. That's not being heartless or mean. Just realistic.

I am female and I play male too
But I don't care. Everyone I play with knows I'm a female. Not so I can get an edge or anything, but because I really don't want someone thinking of me as some hulking man behind the screen. That and with vent I think with my high pitch girly voice I would have some explaining to do if they thought of me as a dude lol

i'm a 35 yr old bald fat guy and i have 5 high lvl toons already. i wanted to start a blood elf and i did my first female rpg character and i gotta say i like it. of course the obvious fact that its nicer to stare at the backside of a female blood elf than some org butt all the time, i have noticed some other things too. i am only up to lvl 25 atm, but i have been getting alot more chatter and help in general that i have with my other toons. i guess just a hot bloodelf by the name hawtpants gets more attention lol.

If it's along the lines of.. Sorry got to go, the BF is home and wants some loving? Nope.
If, it's along the lines of.. I want your .. insert various descriptive mentioning of body parts.. etc etc. Then yes. Then again, same would apply to a female gamer saying that to a male or the male equivalent to a female as well. Side note all of this would be roughly equivalent to what the one, who is bugging you, is doing, by the by.
a) They'd get nailed on the language.
b) There is the issue of a kid being on the other line, and then you run into the whole "grooming" aspect and the RL laws governing that.
Hence, why I said that you should stick said person on ignore.
If, you are feeling mean, report, and mention that you let your 9 year old play a character on your account as well (only works, if you're old enough to have a 9 year old), and that you're worried that this person will start hassling them as well with similar comments as you were given.

No. But the very evil part of me is always tempted to make an innocent, passing reference and see how many people I can get banned for the subsequent abuse.
Most of the gay guys I know either guild together or play on RP realms where people aren't so curious about your real life. Just easier that way.

Best bet with those neurotic types is to just ignore them.
Put them on ignore list, and if they continue to mail you,
report them for harassment, but do NOT respond to them -
that only stirs them up and makes them more hateful,
more aggressive, more nuts!

Gay, Straight, bi - geez why does blizzard even care?
as long as someone is not harassing anyone,
their orientation is their own business.
If someone can't handle knowing that a in RL a male player is gay,
then they need to grow up, or better yet, stop RL type Bf/Gf/fliriting in the first place!

That's because a male character is either played by a male or a female that wants to avoid being noticed, so there's exactly 0% of anything interesting happening.
A female character has a .01% chance of being played by a female within which there's a .001% chance that she's a sexy babe that lives near you who is desperate for attention.
It may only be a .00001% chance, but for a lot of WoW players that's better than their usual odds.
