Collective background / story. Let me know your ideas!

I don't know what RP players would think of this (PvE here but I always found RP very interesting.) but I have a really cool idea for a thread. Please feel free to flame it if you think it's stupid. This is coming from a newb to RP.

I think it would be a really cool idea to come up with a story collectively.
Someone would start it because I don't want to destroy it with the basis and the next poster would say give more information. I think with everyone's collective talent on this board and different perspectives and talents it would be a really good background / story. Let me know opinions and if you think it's a good idea than lets get it started!

Ehm, what exactly is the end result going to be? A single character's background story, or something that involves several equally important characters that people come up with along the way?

If it's the latter, then why not just call it a story-focused RP?

I think we could just come up with it along the way. I'm very new to RP so I'm a bit slow at it. I'm sorry :embarassed: but I genuinely think it would be a good idea. maybe we could come up with several characters and once we have that than intertwine them together into one story by all of us

I don't claim to be a "pro" at it either, but if you ask me, that's exactly what a story-oriented RP thread is like. The only difference being that people post an info sheet about their character(s) before participating in the story to describe their character to the other players.
Doing so not only gives other players the ability to comment that a 1827455-year old god-like demonlord whatnot might not be a suitable character for the story, but also gives other players a much more solid feel of the story and speeds things up because you can then describe the reactions and replies of the other characters without fear that you'll turn them into completely something else than what was intended by their creators.

If your idea was, however, to specifically make up a story where everyone has "admin access" to every aspect of the story without much conversation about it, you might end up with quite a chaotic mix.

In order to give you some more info, I advise you to take a look at the thread in this forum labeled "World of Azeroth RP"(the first few pages are essentially organizing discussion, the story begins a bit later on) and see if that's anything like what you are looking for.

Now now, don't go berating yourself. It's something new to you, so why should you suddenly be an expert? It would be like you starting a level 1 Priest for the first time, then someone saying 'here, play this level 70 Priest and run Karazhan with us' ... would you expect to main heal well? :grin:

I've been hoping to jump in on an RP story here. I know that these is an active one going on, but I prefer to get in 'on the ground level' as it were, and start with a fresh group. I just prefer to be immersed in a story from the beginning, rather than add on in the middle.

So I would certainly join in on such a venture if one starts up. Or perhaps I'll see if inspiration strikes me for a potential storyline to follow, and see if people will bite and play along with me.

Really, that's the best attitude to have, to be willing to try, and to care enough to make an effort to do it well. That's all anyone can ask of you. So honestly, no fretting, just have fun, that's the whole idea!

Once upon a time ...

There was a young couple, deeply in love. They were carefree and happy, and the future seemed endlessly filled with joy. Every day the sun shone, the birds sang, and all was right with the world.

And then the Scourge descended.

The couple were torn apart. In the chaos that rained down upon the world, one was taken from this world ... and brought back.

The world has since become a darker place, even years after the defeat of the Burning Legion. The grim task of rebuilding cities, and lives, is a much longer process than their ruination.

And now danger rears up once again. In dark, hidden spaces, a terrible new plot begins to stir. A new plague dreamed of by warped, soulless minds, to end all life upon Azeroth, to secure power undreamed of.

Already, events have been set in motion, and now it is left to Fate to weave the pattern of what will happen. Whether those will be found to end the threat, or that a new, dark world will emerge from the ashes of the living.

Well, that's the general basis for the story that I've managed to cobble together. Does this sound interesting to people to play in? I can see a few noble and not-so-noble heros on either side taking it upon themselves to stop this new threat, as well as the storyline of the tragic couple, one still living, the other amongst the ranks of the Forsaken.

Any further ideas? Additions? Changes?

Looking forward to hearing from those interested in exploring this RP.
