See a lot of FAQs on installing....

What if I'd like to keep Meta-Map but dump Auctioneer....

l) Delete Auctioneer from Addon's File

under C:\\ Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns

I hear a lot about the WTF file and the Cache and WBD file and the need to delete these files to get a "clean" slate....

I'm thinking though, that deleting the WTF file would delete the Meta-Map knowledge base I've created - correct? So is there a way to pick/choose in the WTF file which of those files belongs with Meta-Maps or is it not an issue?

Would really like to understand...

If there's anything else in relation to this topic - because I didn't know to ask it... please feel free to add... treat me as totally a noob because I am...

Thankyou for your time....

Yes, deleting entire WTF directory will destroy saved data (settings, databases) for all your addons. You don't really need to delete Auctioneer data from WTF if all you need is to save memory - this data will not be loaded unless you put Auctioneer back and keeping it for time you'll need Auctioneer again is probably a good idea anyway. If you really want it, just go into that directory, find SavedVariables under directory with your account name and delete Auctioneer.lua there. Same for any other addon.
