ok I am not a newcomer, but i didnt know where to post this, and here i am sure it will be read by many.
I have a lvl 38 affliction warlock, with no alt. I really wanna make use of the whole resting system, so I wanna rest my wl for a few days and play an alt to get the xp bonus. I love spellcasters, just my thing, and I am deciding between a mage (frost most likely) and a shadow priest.
in terms of playing style, which class has higher CC abilities in general? priest's fearing vs. mage's frost slowing? i love the CC of the wl and would like to have somethign similar yet different. Is the mages AoE ability useful when grinding/leveling or only in instances with tightly packed mobs? I've heard of mages pulling multiple mobs and then taking them all out with a single aoe spell. Does the priest also have somethign awe-inspiring in terms of spells?
which class is better at lower levels? higher levels? Can such a distinction even be made?
Thx for any help and input.

i believe both priest and mages suffer well on low lvls (doesnt all characthers?) mages have have better controlled aggro management then priests (except undead), however priests have higher survivalibility (ofc mages can blink polymorph or fn but as a mage i alwways find difficult to solo higher lvl mobs as a mage due to resistes but a priest can do better job with shield) also priests have better chance to find a place in instances as a healer (mages rarely get random invitations to instances)
Heh and all concludes to play each char up to lvl 10 and decide which one u like
Not: rested xp is does not work as " i play this char one day and get xp and other char tommorrow and get xp so total xp i gained is higher" if u want to stick with wl stick with it
a char develops as u play more
I have a warlock main and made a priest alt.
They're slow until 20, when you get mind flay. At 24+ I felt slow again, finally abandoned at 29.
Because they remind you of warlock (fear, shadow damage) you miss all the things you don't have (LT, a pet, etc).
Of course, I shouldn't have been thinking like a warlock, but maybe something to consider.

Well, it's mainly according to how many of what class your server has. If it's anywhere near what it is on mine, then a priest on the server would be needed and mages are everywhere, like hunters basically.

good point Pin. warlocks pwn, being able to grind XX mobs without losing any health or mana. but i still want to try out the aoe thing, so i will go for a mage. fire probably.
i am sure somebody will write now 'what is the point of this thread?', so if nobody replies then I will wish this thread farewell on its way to davey jones locker (i love that saying).
ps: 40 year old virgin is the funniest film ever. my favorite line (i know this is off topic)... andy's friends ask him how he could tell that the woman they got for him was in fact a man... he says 'well, she had giant hands, and her adams apple was as big as her balls'. :)

I'm a lvl 67 arcane/fire mage and I can easily beat lvl 70's. Throughout my whole game play from lvl 1-67 I was always able to take on characters 3-4 lvls higher than me. Only class I hate dueling is warlocks, but with the right strategy, it can be done.
both... nothing help u figure it out like playing both.
I say both as well, but def play them to at least 25 or so to get a relative idea of how it would be, because you do get better abilities with most classes starting at 20.
Or you can be like many of us and just start 1 of each so you can have your choice whenever you feel like switching it up.
