I have a level 70 priest who's been sitting around for quite a while, not doing PvE or PvP. I've decided I want to start PvP in the near future. I'm open to being either a healer or shadow. I love both aspects of PvP. I will likely be doing BG's, until I get my grand marshal set, at which point I want to start arena.

My question is largely to do with gear. As I know that survival is of the utmost importance in PvP, I'm having trouble deciding what to do. Pretty much all of my gear is meager in value. But, I'll fill you in.

My shadow set has the bringer of death, the imbued netherweave set, the level 70 spectracles head piece, and random other blues and greens (adding up to a total of about +400 spell damage). My healing set has the PM set (which has no survivability attached to it, just high healing), a seer's cane, and random other pieces (Adding up to about +950 healing, with about 900 less life than the shadow set). I have about 1k extra gold at my disposal, should I decide that a certain piece(s) are necessary for a certain decision.

How would I best be utilized?

get a wardrob/item rack addon that allows you to switch gear at the press of a button... then make at least 3 sets, 1 full damage, 2 full healing, 3 mix of both (trying to max out stamina).

then upgrade with pvp gear..

EDIT: incase i missunderstood and you're more conserned with spec... You said you enjoy both keeping a team alive and the ability to facemelt, play with a talent editor and try to find a good balance of talents that allow you to heal when necessary but also allow you to deal damage when needed..

I'm assuming you don't have a group or team to run BGs with currently - if you did pick a spec that best suited their needs (healing or damage).
