View Full Version : alt+shift+f4 kills wow?

Is this specific to my keybindings, or does alt+shift+f4 always kill wow? I had it mapped to one of my hot-keys and finally realized why it keeps kicking me out at the worst times...

alt-f4 will also do it. It's the windows key to close a program. Shift has no effect on alt or f4 which is why alt-shift f4 works.

... btw lol... boss down to 1% and I'm the last one standing? Hang on guys I got a trick up my sleeve... I'll just shift-alt-f4 this sucka!

:p

In windows, alt and f4 will close applications. Not a problem if you are on a mac, but in windows, I wouldn't map things to that combination...

Isn't the guild quit the little red button on the front of the computer itself? And hey, that would actually work if you only ever hit it once while playing!

Does everyones Caps Lock make all the letters into capitals or is it just my keybindings?

See, in Linux, Alt-F4 is safe.

Heck, I have my "Windows" key bound to be my push-to-talk for TeamSpeak. Nothing else in my system really uses it.

So its like the "Sys Rq" button, that was only ever used on a couple of IBM 186 clones

See the imprint on you Printscreen button. It should say:

Print
Screen
-------
SysRq

The SysRq part of that button only did something on a couple of VERY ancient pcs (if you can call em that). Still they keep putting it on every keyboard.

Mine only says Print Screen. Huzzah for non-crap keyboards.
Now if only it came without the damn windows button.

You know what's more irritating? buying a 70$ mouse, and afterwards find out that when you press a button, that's in the way if you're playing SoF2 or any other shooter, it starts something that's used for not-using shortcuts, like you can pick CTRL-C with your mouse then. The game starts lagging, and if you press the button again, your whole keyboard doesnt work anymore, untill your press Shift-CTRL, which I found out yesterday. Makes me sick.

Heh, mine's a Logitech G15, hardly a crap keyboard, and it has the Sys Rq on the same key as Prt Scr ...

Logitech LX710 here =)

Guessed they figured it out by then

And I always remap stuff to my mouse buttons. Went hunting for a 5 button mouse specifically to not be hampered in pvp.

Alt-F4 gives you a little known about buff while fighting raid bosses. Blizz implemented it as their only cheat code.

LOL that reminds me of the "press f10 for a sniper rifle" in counter strike... good times!

This reminds me of back in the StarCraft days. When someone is taking forever to download the map, you tell them pressing Alt+F4 makes it download faster. Problem solved.

Uhhh... Not everyone uses hot keys in Windows? I've been working on windows/linux/unix platforms for 14 years and programming on the same for longer than that, when I have to use windows I tend to try to learn as little about it as possible. Anything else just clogs up my brain and I worry that I might start writing posts with things like 'lol', 'pwnt', 'omfg', 'l33t', and 'n00b'. I'm sure there are a million other hotkeys I don't know about. But thanks for the reply.

In any case, to all those who posted useful answers, I would think when WOW is in the foreground (not windowed) that standard windows hotkeys wouldn't work.

If you were a developer you would know that windows platforms run in the high level operating system, they dont directly access low level functions unless its something like an emulator to improve performance.

Sure, but how would I know that a command to kill the current -window- is considered a low level function?

Who would have thought such a simple question would receive such emotional replies?

That guy was a troll, no worries. theres a lot of hidden crap that people exploit to get rid of unwanted players. tanitha tagged on another one. /gquit.

Ask in guild chat "hey my friend needs to quit his guild, whats the command for that?"

Followed by half your guild leaving the guild because they didn't put a space before /gquit

or inside of a BG, saying '/afk makes you walk through the starting gate" followed by half the players exiting the BG.

We have a sneaky mage in the guild who does this in raids. Whenever someone asks for a summons, he'll open a portal to Exodar or Darnassus, and guaranteed 3 or 4 folks will click on it expecting it to be a Warlock summoning portal ! Everyone is warned now not to click on anything if he's close by ....

Yeah, but then you probably don't want to bind something to CTRL-ALT-Backspace or ALT-Left/Right. Always something.

That's just quibbling over minor details. I did find that KDE makes having things bound on CTRL+F1 - F12 *very* annoying.
