I don't know about you guys, but up here at work there are basically two WoW related websites I can look at that are not blocked by Websense.
worldofwar and wowinsider
I get to my desk this morning, do the usually warcraft website surfing and get around to looking at wowinsider and BAMMMM! BLOCKED! damn you Websense!
I mean, I was just on their site yesterday with no problems but today it is blocked.
Is there anyone else experiencing the same problems?
Is there any other WoW related websites that are not blocked by Websense that you guys would be willing to share?

But I like a little variety and always enjoy a new WoW website to look at during work.

Yep. They got it where I work too. I guess they have a general database that they just implement based on employer requirements. With this in mind I guess it's time to take a real look at the option of proxy avoidance that websense can't track. Does anyone know anything that does get around websense? Is there a specific browser or a proxy site I can use?

There are some circumventors that get round Websense. The newest one of these is called MathBurger.com (not sure if I'm allowed to link it). Not tried this one.
I keep alternating between being behind websense and not. I'm not currently. I do know that companies can block or unblock individual sites on websense on a user by user basis.

Same here on the wowinsider being blocked this morning. I got into work, it was still on BRKs hunter article and when I hit F5 to refresh it it gave me the "blocked" page. Now I'm stuck with this site and espn to save me from the boredom at work. I guess I'll have to setup my home computer to access my work's VPN and just connect to it and surf from home at work. Lame, I know, but come on Websense, give me a break, people around me are watching videos and playing java games all day and I can't even get to some articles because it's flagged as "games"

What about if u use "security" web pages?
As an example main wow website is blocked:
Reason: The Websense category "Games" is filtered.
URL: http://www.wow-europe.com/en
But if i use this url its ok:
https://www.wow-europe.com/en (https://www.wow-europe.com/en)
Also u can tray by IP, as an example http://www.worldofwar.net/ is blocked, but i can type http://213.131.253.172/ and now i can view it.

I don't know what you're talking about, but I think it's permitted to name "ping" as it's a standard utility in all popular modern OSes.

I use a school computer and it has a Content Protecter on it to prevent me from going to bad sites. Well for the time I've had the computer, I've been able to get around it. But just yesterday it blocked the sites I usually go to. Not to worry I still know others that work. *evil grin* Anyway this content blocker is stupid. Theres this one site where you can get cheats and reviews on a lot videogames called IGN. The content protect blocks it for the reason of it being a porn site. Its a clean site. Thats the problem.

If you are having trouble finding the Ip address for wow sites you can goto http://www.networksolutions.com/whois and do a whois. about halfway down the page it will tell you the IP address. Ping will work great but at my work we do not have access to cmd

People are watching you o.O
There are like people downtown here that periodially check all the computers in the city school network and block any bad urls they see.
I always delete the url out of the box when I load a new page first thing so they cant see what site you are on.

Sorry to necro an old thread.....but I found a way around Websense for Wowinsider.....
Just putting "f2" in front of the "www" works for me. If you want into another topic, just copy the shortcut into your browser and put "f2" in the same place.
Example
Regular url: http://www.wowinsider.com/category/breakfast-topics/
New one: http://f2www.wowinsider.com/category/breakfast-topics/

Yep. They got it where I work too. I guess they have a general database that they just implement based on employer requirements. With this in mind I guess it's time to take a real look at the option of proxy avoidance that websense can't track. Does anyone know anything that does get around websense? Is there a specific browser or a proxy site I can use?
This won't work too well for the casual user, but for the slightly hardcore, its pretty foolproof:
1. I use a linux machine to route/nat my home cablemodem traffic. The only port open to the outside world is port 22 (SSH).
2. You can tunnel just about anything over SSH using putty (free) or whatever client you like.
3. Bascially, I setup TightVNC on my home linux router, ssh to it and tunnel the vnc connection over SSH. If for some reason your company disallows outgoing traffic on port 22, you can setup ssh to listen on port 80 or 443 or whatever.
4. Open VNCViewer to home machine, browse from home connection. Bypass all local filtering. I'm doing it right now. All traffic to/from your desktop to the home machine is encrypted using whatever crypt you use for SSH. The only thing company filters will see is an encrypted stream.
5. THIS MAY BE AGAINST YOUR COMPANYS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, USE AT OWN RISK.
My personal guess is that if certain WoW related websites worked one day, and all of a sudden stopped working the next, either Websense/SurfControl just updated those sites classification or your network admin is browsing "frequently visited sites" from the Websense console/reporting tool and independently deemed them "non-work related". In either case, tunnel or live without them.
You may (or may not) like this if you are a victim of websense :)
