I'm sure there's been plenty of different variations of this post, but I'm probably just about the laziest person you'll meet, so no "L2SearchButton n00b" or "God... I've seen this 1000 times". Kkies? Thanks!
My friend told to pick up Mining and Skinning and use AH a lot to make money and all that jazz, and it's working, but I recently watched a rogue PvP video (Tosan 3: Mutilicious to be exact) and I've noticed that he uses Herbalism and he already has his epic flying mount and respecs like everyday. I plan on asking him a few questions, but I thought I'd ask here just in case I can't get a hold of him.
1.) Is Herbalism a great moneymaker, even without Alchemy?
2.) What Herbs are really saught after by other players, and make money?
Hmm, I think that's about it. Thanks for your time!

Most people go to mining, since Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing, and Engineering all need minerals to make stuff, while for Herbalism, only Alchemists really have any use out of the herbs. Herbalism can still make you some money, but if you want to know one that not many people use that makes good money, look to fishing.
In Outlands, you can fish for Motes, and also vendorfish will make you gold easily, as well as fishing wreckage for items and oil spills and whatnot. Takes time to level it up, but good return, and after the next patch, fishing will be easier since it guarantees a fish to be hooked for a 20 second cast.

Kkies, maybe I'll try that as well. Thanks for the feedback.

L2searchbutton n00b!!! j/k  I think you're on the right track already, just cause he had his epic and had herbalism doesn't mean that's why he was able to afford it. Mining is equivalent to herbalism IMHO. Just stick with it, you can sell the ore OR you can sell the smelted bars. They are both gathering skills so which one you have is really just based on preference.
Probably server as well though now that i think about it, check out your AH and see what sells for more? ore/bars or herbs.

That's part of the problem. I'm not exactly sure which herbs really make money. The low level ones don't even compare to what I make with my skinning and mining combination.

For lower level herbs, Fadeleaf (which can be found from Briarthorn) sells well, on my server, about 1.5g each, and can be found as early as The Barrens (or the alliance equilivent). Later on, other stuff will make more than the stuff you'll get for the first 150 or so levels of herbalism.

you are talking about swiftthistle, i think. Fadeleaf comes from Fadeleaf bushes, which can be found in lvl 30+ areas and in the scarlet monastary.

You're absolutely right.

ghost mushrooms can go for a fair bit to since it spawns in just 3 places.
i'm 400/375 on Auctionhousing... +25 for kcma bonus... i really can't help you with anything else though since i never bothered wtih any other profession except to spend some gold on them :p

We know kcma, it's also completely irrelevant to the thread.
300+ herbs tend to go for cash.
Swiftthistle is the lowest level one that sells
Stranglekelp tends to sell well
Fadeleaf is making money
Gromsblood and Plaguebloom do well too.

Black Lotus - if u can find em - go into some flasks I believe.
Dreamfoil - goes into a few useable potions too. Look in Aszhara.
Both sell quite well.
That is just the thing....hardly anything sells unless you are a bit higher in level.
20 peacebloom I can sell between 20 and 50 silver
20 silverleaf I pretty much cannot sell
20 Earthroot up to 2 - 3 gold
Swiftthistle used to sell well...lately it doesn't really
....
20 Dreamfoil are up to 40 gold at times..and everything above that has pretty high prices too...but ofc it is like lv 45 and beyond....
Ores and bars I could sell at very much every level...copper, tin..it is all in demand.
20 light leather I cannot sell over 90 silver, but clefthoof leather, knothide leather...that is all quiet expensive - and again beyond level 60...
I usually start my gold making careers with buying recipes from vendors in Orgrimmar (like enchant 2 handed weapon: Intellect) for 5 silver and putting them up at around 70 silver. It has been a surefire way to get something like my first 10 gold to work with.
Ofc now my main and my AH character have so much money, I just can start any character with enough gold, but for the fun of it I still let them auction things they find. Since people like to twink their alts as soon as possible, even lv 10 greens with some stamina or Intellect or strength sell for up to 50 silver - which does add up over time. This leads to the blues dropping between lv 15-30 for ending up at 20-90 gold on AH, but I am not THAT crazy ^^
actually 20-50s for peacebloom or whatever is usually how i get my AH play money :p i mean, it really helps since the drops from mobs, etc barely covers training and new gear... don't underestimate peacblooms and silverleaves ;)
aerath: i was merely pointing out that i would love to help but i'm not very helpful in the way that OP might want to be helped... although i can suggest alternatives... and look, i'm back on topic now :)

To find out which herbs will make you money take a look at what elixirs and potions raiders use. Off the top of my head these all sell for 1g-2g each on my server:
Mountain Silversage
Dreamfoil
Gromsblood
Terocone
Netherbloom
The one which spawns in Shadowmoon valley whose name escapes me
Mana Thistle
Ancient Lichen
I have alchemy also and that probably adds an extra 50% onto the value of these herbs once I make them in to raiding elixirs/potions. That might not be the same on all realm however as there are only three people who ever post elixirs and potions on the auction house on my realm.
One important thing to note is that with the upcoming patch toons are limited to using only two elixirs or one flask at a time which will probably reduce the price of elixirs in the AH and hence the herbs also.

Don't forget plaguebloom:
Only found in EPL/WPL and not many can be bothered to go herbing for it.

I would stick with Skinning/Mining if I were you. Skinning is extremely easy to lvl with your character and ores from mining(Even the lowbie ones) will always be in demand. Most warriors and some rogues are now re-training in Mining and BS'ng to get the 1 and 2-handed weapons. I recently did it and spent about 3 weeks grinding out mining materials because I didn't feel like spending 8g/stack on copper ore. Thorium was going for about 15-20g/stack and the 300+ ores are very expensive(Stacks of 20 adamantite ore, that's 10 bars, go for around 30g).

I didn't even know anyone wanted it. I recall pre-tbc it was pretty worthless - what is it used for?

Mongoose pots: +25 Agi, + 28 Crit rating - 1 hour. (2 Plaguebloom, 2 M Silversage) Battle elixir
Mageblood pot: + 12mp/5 - 1 hour (2 Plaguebloom, 1 Dreamfoil) Guardian elixir
Are the two main ones. There are better flasks in TBC but they require many more herbs.
Flask of Mighty Resoration (Guardian AND Battle) 25 mp/5 - 2 hours (1 Fel Lotus, 3 Mana Thistle, 7 Dreaming Glory). Lasts through death.
For 5 mans etc. the 1 hour versions are good.
All our hunters and rogues used the Mongoose for raiding pre TBC

Plaguebloom is used in Elixir of Brute Force as well, which is one of the better pots to level up on. 18str/18 stam isn't half bad in a Kara raid setting still. Might even argue it's better than an Elixir of Mastery.

I usually net about 2-5 gold/minute herbing when focused on that alone (on epic flyer, which I bought with herb proceeds). Also come across quite a bit whenever questing or instancing too (over half the instances have herb nodes).
Was a great moneymaker while leveling too. I agree...do not underestimate the value of silverleaf/peacebloom.

Mining>Herbal>Skinning, if you can handle swapping out 2 different map scanners all the time, go with the first 2.
