Hi everyone, I'm a new guy here. Just hopefully someone can help me.

I had installed World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade as well as those patch. The only thing is...it takes a long time. So I was wondering is there anyway for me to modify the installer files. I wanted to combine everything together in the installer tome.mpq and the rest. I tried to use MPQ Editor but all I can do is extracting files. I can change the background of the installer client with this but as for .xml files and the rest I couldn't modify.

Wonder is there anyway to modify the client so I don't have to repeat few step like (install--patch--patch--install--patch--patch) . All I want is 1 step or 2 step to install it.

It does take a long time. Fortunately, you *could* have downloaded the trial client from Blizzard, and installed it that way, without needing disks. But it still takes a lot of time. You *do not* need to patch the original game before you install Burning Crusade. Just install the original WoW, then install WoW:TBC, then patch. But the patching can take a bit of time. However, at *best* you would have an install--install--patch process (like when 2.1 gets released it will be back to that). Right now, it is probably more like install--install--patch--patch.

Well, actually the one I downloaded is an expansion pack. the older version was about version 1.0.12....so I need to patch a few time.

what I needed to patch is to version2.0.12.6546 patch.exe with the Burning Crusade installed

You totally missed what I said then.

Your install process should have been:

WoW Client (Pre-Burning Crusade -- the version number does NOT matter)
WoW:Burning Crusade Client
Subsequent patches to bring you current

You did not need to do any patches between the original WoW client install, and the Burning Crusade client install. The Burning Crusade client would automatically upgrade your client to whatever version it was (2.0.1, if memory serves).

Now, the subsequent patches afterward get to be a pain, that's true. It will get fixed when the client version 2.1.0 patch comes out, because then all of the myriad of patches to bring you current would only be a single patch -- 2.1. Any bugfix patches afterwards (like 2.1.1, for example) would then need to be individually installed, typically.

oooo....ok... thanks a lot.... please forgive me if I'm not very clear on what you say before...

Anyway, we can't create our own .mpq files right? All those question was being ask by friend...who play on private server...so they was wondering.

Ok, talk about playing on private servers... is not really liked around these parts. Editing or changing the mpq datafiles are violations of the EULA/ToU, and as such are also not liked around here either. You are rapidly losing any sympathy or interest in help from me at all.

Well, actually I'm not intent to editing the .mpq file in the game, but the installer files. Which mean after installed the files, it will remain the same as the original state of the original WoW installed program. I was trying to do that because I want to create a 1 shot installer. or even 2, cause I want to put into a dvd with autorun menu which easier to be install.....hehe:grin:

so did I violate the game EULA or TOS Rules?

Oh yeah, the another reason that I don't intent to modify the game....

I'm a GM in my cousin private server...and I'm a normal player in original server (share account). So basically I don't like to modify games. It make me lost interest in playing.

I wanted to create installer file because the private server and the original server are different version. So I need to install and patch multiple time.

See, you're talking about a private server again. Modifying WoW's files in any way violates the EULA/ToU. Running/playing on a private server does the same thing. You've lost any credibility, or desire on my part to assist you in any way. Continued discussions will get a /reported

You can, if you want to get thrown off the server. Everyone uses the same standard files or else the game become stupidly pointless with no objective platform to play upon. The base files must stay the same, not only for gameplay, it's a requirement of the Terms of Use.

Stop tinkering with them, it's illigal and will get you banned.

Not really any reason to be harsh. I didn't realize that private servers were against the EULA until I learned of it... in fact... I knew nothing until I learned.

So... Private servers are against the rules and should not be discussed on these (or the offical) servers. It's for the best if you don't play on a private server at all and just play on the many servers provided by Blizzard. I'm sure that although the private server may have a few advantages, using the legitimate servers would have far more advantages (patch support, GM support, population, updating, etc.)

Now you know

I only got harsh when he continued on about it.
