View Full Version : "Run Me" Getting Out Of Hand?

I know how I'm going to deal with this particular guildie already but I just want to throw this out to see if other people are encountering this type of thing.
So with TBC we've gotten some new Guildie's that seem to never want to level themselves (all Draenai - so probably re-rolls). Not even when grinding / questing - as they'd rather have a high level come help them grind elites somewhere then level themselves. It's always "Hey, can you run me though______" and as a nice Guild we try to help everyone that we can in a reasonable amount of time. A few individuals began abusing this so we made a rule that they could only ask once a week.
Now they're reverting again, and the Officers and myself are going freaking nuts. So apparently, this guildie asks an Officer for a run, and he obliges. But once he gets there, they say "Oh I'm going to eat lunch, I'm just gonna set follow okay?" . . . .
UM WTF!!!!
You guys experiencing this more with a lot of people re-rolling Shammy's, Belfs, etc.? Or did we just get some people that think they can abuse others generosity?

Going to eat lunch and set follow?? Talk about not only stupid, but lazy. I'd agree and then get their toon killed for that kind of crap.
I hate when people constantly beg for others to run them through, just as I get tired of people begging for money and gold whispers!

i'd say "ok." and hearth. if you want me to help you, you better be there. if that's the type of kid he is, its time to /gkick since you probably don't want him in your raids going "omg i need the lootz." in my guild we have a strict personality rule and have kicked people who type like 12 year olds as well as beg constantly. we are a generous guild who help each other all the time, but we are also mature and demand respect in both directions.

I have no problem running people through instances....when I offer or when they say something along the lines of "Hey I wanted to complete this quest, any chance I could get you to run me through this instance sometime in the next few days?"
With something like that, I am more than happy to. I was in vent the other day jokingly begging a guy to run me through ZF for the Carrot quest, and some epic rogue said he would, at which point the guy I was begging was like, haha it might be fun! and joined along. I got the carrot, and the guys were like, "wanna do Sunken Temple as well?" I ran behind them and spam healed them so there was absolutly no downtime...just constant backstabs and ambushes over and over again.
Couldn't pass that offer up!
But yea, don't do it...and if they are begging consistently, kick them.

Part of me is sympathetic for people who either just started WoW or are otherwise trying to level new characters. The overall game environment for them is considerably different than when I started playing over 2 years ago. When I started, groups for elites or low level instances were a dime a dozen.
Now it's rare to even see another player while questing in the low level zones!
That being said, I have very low patience for people that aren't willing to put in the time and effort to level their own character. The biggest reason being that leveling a character and struggling through content with equal leveled characters is the best and probably only way to truly learn how to play your class. Having a lvl70 character "run" someone through the instance results in the lower level characters learning nothing but how to leech off of other players, and I've seen far too many players who continue that attitude even at level cap. And that's just not cool!

We really don't have that problem. Even though we're casual (maybe that's a reason? hah) most are quite self sufficient.

I didn't even know what a "run through" was til i joined the Kalecgos server. I was run through an instance a few times and gained about four levels doing so, and it was fun, i mean yeah you just sit back, keep your distance and level while getting pretty good gear in the process. That doesn't by any means make me lazy, i've already played a hunter and know how to play the class well.
So i see nothing wrong with running people through instances to level. When they start getting lazy, and start begging however, that's where you should draw the line. While i appreciated the runthroughs TREMENDOUSLY, i would NEVER and i do mean NEVER beg for someone to run me through it. Now i may ask later on if a certain someone HELP me in an instance for a quest or something.
But on that note, if someone offers to run me through, you better believe i'm going to say Yes, LOL.

We had a guildie that the only thing I ever heard him say had to do with Scarlet Monastery. If it wasn't "who drops scarlet leggings" it was "can someone run me through sm cath?" Or "can anybody run me through sm armory?" This went on for about 3 weeks. As far as I know, all he ever did was wait for people to run him through some wing of Scarlet Monastery. He never said hello, or "Anyone want to run an instance?" or made any other conversation except soliciting SM runthroughs. I asked him why he only ever begged to be run through SM, and he responded: "xp, gold, items." I never put anyone on /ignore, but I ignored everything he said, because it was all the same.
I don't mind helping people who need it, but I cannot stand this kind of helpless begging.
About a week ago, he hit level 40, and promised he would never again ask to be run through Scarlet Monastery. I asked if he was turning his attention toward ZF now. He said no.
A few days after that, he left the guild, stating that he did not feel like ours was the guild for him, with which I am in wholehearted agreement.

You should have seen the group of childish retards I ended up with for the SM instance. I couldn't believe these kids. I left the group and went back without explanation. They were ridiculous!

The only person I ever bother to run me through anything is my fiancee if I create an alt. Of course she does the same so it balances out. I'll also run friends through instances if they need the help but that's about it. I personally believe that people should learn to run instances with a real group if they ever intend to learn how to function in a group setting.
Now I have a Priest on a different server where I know few people and my fiancee's character is many levels below me. I still don't ask anyone to run me through anything since I'm learning to play a Priest and I want to learn how to perform in a group with one. I have bee run through several instances (SM twice and RFK once) but I didn't actually ask for it. My RFK run was supposed to be a real run until the person who started the group invited his 70 guildie to run us through. As for the SM runs, they were guild invites.
The point is I value a real run over a run through any day since it gives me the chance to improve my skills in whatever class I'm playing. There's nothing wrong with being run through an instance on occasion but people should try doing it themselves and learning to play their class and stop relying on everyone else to carry them through.

Off the original topic a bit but still a common courtesy issue...I'm leveling my first Alliance toon (lvl 18) and I've spent the last few sessions in Westfall. I get unsolicited invites for VC CONSTANTLY, even more than the suddenly prolific gold seller whispers. A lot of times I'm in combat and the dialogue box will come up with an invite. I know everyone has experienced this...but seriously 1 every 5 or 10 minutes is a little much. I had to spam the general chat to beg people to please stop inviting me without asking, which of course resulted in even more unsolicited invites.
He basically used your guildies to level from 30-40. I spent about 80% of my time in that level bracket in SM gearing up and trying to make some dough. But it was always with people of same level than me, and I had the priviledge of running with a few friends who had a high level come along on 2 or 3 occasions (out of 50+). SM, IMO, you need to do with similar level players...I think a lot of people learn to group doing SM in those levels and I benefited greatly from that.

I'll take a run from RL friends if they offer - I like getting a feel for an instance before I try to run thru it w/a PuG. I get to see which ones I am willing to risk my time on (running w/a PuG is always a risk IMO) and which ones I just don't want to even try. I will agree it is better to run it w/the correct level party to get to know your character and the chance to test yourself and your party members. I will only ask my friends to help me for quests or particular rewards and I always say I'm cool with running it whenever they have time and don't mind doing it. Sometimes I get lucky and finish whatever I wanted to do w/a PuG while I wait for my friends.

After 4 60+ characters, and LOTS of lowbees (on two accounts!) I've learned one thing.
Until you are 70, forget the gear, and just grind grind grind. If you get something good along the way, GREAT! But don't waste any time trying to get something specifically.

Yes I agree with this statement 100%. I am currently trying to break myself of my gear whore-ishness. I still find myself saying "well that item will give me +1 more stam and int when i hit next level so I better buy it!" LOL.

You know I have to agree - I am only at 56 but I see your point. I have spent a lot of time to get X only to sell it or bank it in just a few levels.
The only 2 items I can say where worth it are Verigans Fist and Bonebiter.
I'm a Pally ...

Yup. I recently vendored (without ever having equipped) almost every blue weapon drop that drops in DM/VC, SFK, and the stockades (had an insane amount of luck being run through those three one morning by my GF's 65 mage on my lvl 20 paladin doing the Vergan's Fist quest line).
My usual attitude is
1) I don't run people through Gnomeregan, Uldaman, or BRD. Those just take too long. The one exception is that I will run enchanters through Uldaman as far as the enchanting trainer.
2) I don't run people through instances they've never seen. (again, the enchanter trainer is an exception).
3) I don't run people through instances if I'm already doing something that I feel needs to be done. Whining in guild chat that your instance run is more important than me farming my crafting mats isn't going to win you any points with me. Ask politely when I'm getting tired of farming mats, and you'll get a different answer, more than likely.
4) I don't run people I don't know through instances. Sure, sometimes I've got a lvl 35 or so character hearthed in Sentinal Hill. Doesn't mean I want to join your DM/VC group. Probably just means I haven't bothered changing my hearth since doing the STV quests in the northern end of the zone.

Important quests, attunement (e.g onyxia, kara, BRD, UBRS). But there has to be a reason more then 'xp, gold, phat lewts' - that stuff comes anyway. Character progression is worthy and that's the only time I will ask for help / help others

This guy is already in SM with a PUG:ponder: WTH
So we whisper, YO, SM.
He replies, I am already there, but you all can "RUN ME" again after I am done!!!!
