View Full Version : Will Raiding Take a Hit

I'm curious who's planning on not raiding in order to experience the new quests for Skettis, Ogri'la and Ethereum as well as farming for their Netherwing mount. I'm certainly intending to cut back to virtually no raiding whatsoever until I can check out some of the new quest lines and work on getting my new mount. My fiancee is quitting raiding entirely until she gets her mount and checks out some of the new quests.
Not counting the Black Temple since only a few guilds will get to experience that any time in the near future is anyone else moving away from raiding for the new content?

Raiding was never my "thing". I, for one, am appreciative that Blizzard is actually bothering to provide content for those of us unwilling, or unable to spend the time and resources to raid.

Did the "raiding" thing for about 3 - 4 months, and got so burnt out I almost quit playing WoW entirely because of it. The time sink is just not possible for most players, between the actual time raiding, and the time farming for needed money / consumables / materials / etc.
I loving all the new "solo / non-raid" content

I'm very happy for the new content it gives something more for pvpers to do aside from bg it up for gear. I for one have dropped from raiding due to the ammount of time required to progress when you raid with a group of idiots :) QQQQQ

I am aware of the Netherwing mount quests (beginning of chain) but where do these others start?

Since Ive never raided I cant say Ill do much of it, thogh that might change since my guild is wanting to start doing Kara soon. That aside, I think I might go for the netherdrake just for the thrill of outflying the grypon/wyvern/hippogryph mounts.

Wow I can't believe no one on this thread has come out in favor of raiding. After this patch, it's the very first thing I'm going to do, and I'm trying to get my guild to add another day of raiding to each week, if just for a little while.
Blizzard nerfed most of the encounters, BIG TIME. They also made all the epics that I'm already wearing much, much better. My raid has sort of hit a wall, but with this patch, we should fly high for a while. I'm really excited.

For me it's more a matter of being burnt out on raiding. I actually considered quitting WoW with how burnt out I've become and that's thanks to dealing with guild raiding politics and the pressure to always be there even if they just want to put a person on standby. I told my guild I'm stopping raiding for a few weeks and I'm going to go back to doing what's actually fun and questing towards a goal.

Thats not really a problem with raiding, thats a problem with your guild. We have a great laugh when 25 manning, or in Kara, and I can happily say I dont have to group with any 'idiots' (apart from one mage who we've banned from clicking cubes on Magtheridon, because he's always fcking stoned and forgets to go and click it on time - but thats besides the point.) I have a great time raiding with 24 of my guildmates.
We're tackling HK, Gruul, and Mag tonight as we normally do on wednesdays after reset, then its Voidreaver, Morogrim and Karethress tomorrow. Then we have Sunday and Tuesday for progression, with a nice drunken KZ or two over the long weekend :)
Of course we'll all be throwing ourselves into the 5man content as well, but for the raiding guilds who love raiding, the only thing that changes with this patch, is that there's more to do when the raids over now :)

My raiding schedule will not falter.
People can grind netherwing and do quest on their own time, before, after raid, and on off days.
Honestly, were doing them a favor, with the 999 people in the same area grinding the same mobs. They'll have more sanity this way =)
Content killing machines cannot cancel plans for mounts and cute pets.
My stats post patch are amazing =) Can't wait. Would have raided last night, if our server wasn't down until like 11 pm =(

Didnt look at crit / AP
But picked up about 1200 armor, about 1000 life or so
Like 14700 ac without any buffs, and around 16.5k armor or something with standard dr00d / lawladin buffs.
Additional 2% dodge, 2% block, and some other tweaks.
Oh, defense skill from 505 to 516

I inched ever so closer to 1000 spell dmg. A few upgrades in kara should push me the rest of the way. Hell yeah I'll be raiding still. Unfortunately our regularly scheduled raid was canceled yesterday because blizzard saw fit not to bring our server up until 8:30 PST. WTF. So we'll be hitting up kara tonight. Also I'm still ecstatic about my fricking SPELLFIRE ROBE. No more hideous spellstrike pants. While not the best looking robes in the game, they are still a step up.
Also while there are a few idiots in my guild, for the most part we have a great time raiding. It's a lot of fun and it isn't like a job at all. Just a bunch of friends hanging out and killing things :)

Aint that the truth? Seems like the anti-raiding campaign has been working overtime lately.
Quite a few people now in my guild who haven't raided before, and they are rather enjoying it.
Especially going with a group thats experienced. Things that seemed difficult before have become fun and interactive for them.

Just so there's no misconception of why I started the topic; personally I'm not anti-raiding. I'm one of the highest DPS in my guild and I have more raiding experience than most people as well and Kara is becoming a cake-walk. The problem for me comes in the form of guild politics. I'd love to keep raiding if there weren't all kinds guild issues. I like the people in my guild but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

An idealist I see. I've been in 3 raiding guilds and I've seen the same attitude in each one. I've tried to help fix raid drama in the past and I've learned that human nature doesn't allow it. I'm going to keep raiding; I'm just cutting back on my time spent in raids and focusing on the new content (and my Priest). It's more fun for me personally these days.
When raiding started feeling like more of a job than my actual job I realized that it was time to step back and get back to enjoying the game.

Cool...there are about 10 threads with raiders vs. non-raiders going back and forth and they are all very large. Just didn't want to get started on another one because people don't change their minds based off of what someone else says on an internet forum.

One question about the gear upgrades...was it just for the raid-oriented type of gear or did the PvP gear get buffs as well? I'm just concerned over raiders coming into a PvP arena or bg and destroying people just because of their gear. That, if I remember correctly, was one of the big problems when the level cap was 60.

I believe the pvp epics were also upgraded.

Ya my arena shoulders pvp boots and bracers all got marginal upgrades, mostly in agility/attack power as a hunter. Not much changed as far as stam (+100hp) but I saw almost 100Ap 20 agility and a little MP and hit rate....
Oh ya and my tree got buffedsause!!

Netherdrake shouldn't cut into raid time much at all, as the quests are only one per day.
However, I realized last night you can get more drops than are needed for the quest turn in. (You need 40 crystals, but they keep dropping post-40) SO when you have time farm extra to cover the days you're time-limited.

What are people's complaints with raiding? I don't think I've experienced this. I, for one, don't like to raid...but god woudl the game be dull, overall, w/out it. I love hearing about our server's PvE progression. I don't see why anyone would be against raiding. It doesn't bother them any, does it?

I think the problem is more PvPers vs Raiders. There are hybrids out there who do a decent amount of both, but it was very annoying at 60 when the Naxx and AQ 40 geared raiders invaded PvP BG's and outgeared even the best PvP guilds and were doing as well as them just because of gear.
I think in BC they will keep serious raiders and serious PvPers on the same page because of the Arena systems and the upgrades it will get every season. Except for bragging rites (btw it's a video game) I don't see why casual pve'ers and hardcore pve raiders would have any problems.
