The top levellers, the ones who level the fastest,
and the top money makers, the ones who own the AH, both agree on one thing:

You've got to stop worrying about professions!
TO LEVEL FAST: Professions will only slow you down;
TO MAKE MONEY: ten times the money is made in buying & selling on the AH, not in expensive professions.

I think skinning, with the new patch, is fine because it gets you some extra (after selling it) 5-10 silver pieces per mob - which adds up fast; but the others take you out of the way, you have to fight competition, and they really slow you down.

And, sure people will say they love the crafting professions and the stuff they can get & sell from these, but remember that once you hit the Outlands, money flows pretty freely (into your pockets that is)
and once you hit level 70, you get cash instead of xp, and ou can afford anything you want

I have a lvl 12 Paladin who I get on for about 2h at a time with and mine copper in eversong woods. I can get about 5 stacks an hour. On my server, I usually see Copper ore on the AH for 2g buyouts, and I list mine for 1.5g

They always, ALWAYS sell.

No one pays attention to lower level mats, but here's a fun fact: Players are fickle and like to create alts. Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing, and Engineering all require copper ore to get started. I don't need to "own" the AH, obviously, because I just created my account 2 weeks ago and I have 40g. I can buy a Searing Blade on the AH for 20g for a 19 by mining for 3 measly hours, and i don't consider that wasted time.

The best part is that I didn't need to level a character to 70 to do it, I can get started at lvl 5. And now, whenever I do decide to create my main, I'll have a very easy ride to 70.

Its true that they slow you down. However its also true that if you save your mats it will cost you a lot less money.

Nonsense, one lap of Burning Steppes can net you well over 30g alone

I can see what you're saying here, but getting to OL and only being able to pick lvl 100 herbs or mine lvl 100 nodes is not going to help you (thus, some leveling of professions is required).

Now, if you're saying don't worry about crafting - then I agree somewhat b/c often times they can be a money sink and gathering doesn't cost anything.

BTW - This is coming from a maxed out skinner with only 224 LW LOL

For an Excellent guide on how to control the Auction House try this:

http://www.how2wow.info/Pages/Auction.htmlPosting helpful links every now and then is definately allowed, but trying to mention a certain website in every single post you write, is very much frowned upon. Lots of work and effort is being made to make this website and these forums as informative as possible, so we don't appreciate advertising to competing WoW information websites at all.

I have deleted a bunch of your posts. The only reason I didn't zap your account here (yet) is that most of these posts were actually rather insightful and had something to do with the thread topic, which is more than we can expect from the average spam bot. In short, I'm watching you and I will not hesitate to ban you if you mention that link again.

Next time you want to advertise, become a donator, so you can include links in your signature.

The general consensus in these forums is that you should pick up 2 gathering professions until at least 40... it'll easily give you enough money to buy your mount and have more than enough. It's even more worth it now with money being so prevalent in the outlands. When I started JC on my alt, I went and mined a bunch of copper. I found that 30m of my time riding around elwynn neted me a couple of stacks of copper ore. Thats 2g on the AH... I could kill 5 orcs in 2m in hellfire and get that much.

So at low levels yes, this is a great way to make money... at higher levels? you'll easily become one of reasons it's great at low levels... it's just not worth your time.

My main is herb/mine... alt is Alc/JC. Works for me... only problem is having to earn the rep twice... once for your main since he's your main... and the second time for your alt for the recipes.

working the auction house is a good way to make money but you spend sometimes hours going through the items to see what to buy and what to sell. skinning and mining you just do as you play then ever few levels when you go to a city to learn new class skills visit the ah and put in all the ore and leather you have picked up and hey presto loads of money for no extra effort than playing the game
