i have a noob question about enchanting

use the disenchant icon from your spellbook

That was fast :grin: As John said, look in your spellbook (Where you get all your spells from, etc.) and in the General tab you'll find "Disenchant".

I would add a recommendation that you get the Auctioneer mod. It contains a sub mod called Enchantrix which will tell you the percentage chance you have of getting various materials from something you disenchant. Sometimes it's better to sell the item to a vendor / put it on the auction house, as the gain in materials won't be worth it. Enchantrix helps you make those decisions.
