i have made a few ranged charcters and im thinking of ttaking up a mage seriously and lvling to 70. My only prob is professions. Ive tried enchanting and i could never make anything cause it took so much time finding green items. Does finding them get easier as you lvl up or is enchanting a VERY slow proffesion. Ive spoke bout this before and people say that i should go instances. I understand this howveer with the need and greed sytem u hardly ever get any items . And those witch u do get u sometimes need to use yourselve to help raise your char armour or stats. SOM1 HELP ME!
Enchanting is an expensive profession, no question.
Mine only really took off when I started to DE certain Tailored items, and when my Main began sending greens and blues via Mail.

enchanting is a _very_ expensive profession to skill up, and it never gets easier, quite the opposite.
if you can't support it yourself (through *lots* of grinding (and questing to disenchant rewards) or by having another crafting profession), I'd steer clear of it.

Usually enchanting is combined with tailoring.
Send your new character lots of Linen and make loads of linen robes and disenchant them; this will level your enchanting to at least 50 get you a lot of enchanting reagents to level it up quite a bit further.
Although it's true, unless you have a guild full of starting characters, you'll waste a lot of materials on enchanting the same item again and again.

İf u are lvling by having enchanting, disenchant everything u wont use, everything from q rewards to random drops, instance salvages,
even if u could pickpocket other players i would,
forget the gold that u would gain from selling green blue staff (make exception of beatiful purples)
even dont get tailoring pick a gathering prof.
use it for money making
then u can go even manage to have gold (if you dont want to spend effort to understand server economics and usuing buy low sell high thing to make money, as others do)

Tommy,
What are the levels of your other characters? Are they high enough to run an instance by themselves? I made a mage that has tailoring and enchanting as his professions. To get him started with skilling up his professions I took my main through VC mines, Shadowfang Keep, and Wailing caverns, plenty of greens and blues to help him get the materials, as well as the cloth to make tailored items. I'd say this was the best method for me. Another thing is that I've found the mobs around Westfall to drop green items quite frequently.
So, the best answer I can give you is to level up a hunter, rogue, or druid and level them up as quickly as you can and have them collect the greens and blues from instances and send it all to your mage. Otherwise, do quests and grind. As for the frequency of green items dropping more often at the higher levels, I honestly can't give a solid answer because I don't really keep track. Good luck.

^^ Thats what I did. I started a Druid and took up enchanting. I had my 50+ Pally run easy instances like deadmines and load up on green and blue items to mail to the druid. Also if you have an alt that is lets say ....a smith, you can make cheap items, mail them to the enchanter and de them too. But even though I could come up with 10 items to de in about 30 mins I still quit enchanting. Its just not for me at all. Its is tedious, but really no more tedious than other professions. Its just slowto lvl up. And with other professions you can at least vendor the goods.

I started Enchanting at 58 on my rogue.
1-150 wasn't an issue , just did dis-enchant tours of the Stockade.
as that stopped helping I did more of the same in Gnomeregan then up to SM.
the green/blue drops from randoms and bosses was enough to get enchanting up by quite a long way ,
other than that you can level enchanting with tailoring that can make you tons of greens to DE and use for skillups

Here's what I did:
Mining/enchanting....
I was able to level my ench to 300 by lvl 47 by buying items from AH. To pay for this, and it took a lot, I can't say for sure, maybe about 300g?, I mined. I made tons of cash with selling bars in AH. The only issue was, I had to go on several dozen Badland mithril runs but I made out fine. I will never forget, saving up for the day I knew I was going to Ulda, gettting all the skills I needed for 300, and spending over 200g in AH the same day to make the final push from 265.
This way, you dont have to worry about getting greens all the time, and in fact, after you hit 300, you can start selling all the DE'd items you will get for a nice profit. Its tougher than acually hoping for a good greed roll, what with the mining runs, but it worked for me.

I went the Tailoring/Enchanting route. Enchanting can be slow to level, and it rarely provides you with any cash. I got most of my enchanting materials from DEing soulbound items and items that don't sell on the AH. You'll need the cash, because frequently you need to buy odd reagents or other materials in order to level Enchanting.

I also choose tailoring/enchanting. I was able to get both of those professions up to 150 very quickly by using my main hunter, now 44, to farm the stuff needed. I ran thru the deadmines several times and wailing caverns. Now I just need to hit lvl 20(?) to be able to get to 225 on both professions.

275+ will be a little more challenging for enchanting.
It took me a while to go from 350-375 but I didn't emphasize it. If I had not been lucky on a savagery drop I might not be 375 yet.

How I finance it:
every day check the AH for green tiems that are sold too cheap. (every day there are some) I buy out them all. I disenchant them all. I make sure I always sell some of the Dust Essences and Shards so that I get at least my money back. But I always get more materials .. profit rate is about 30-50%
you need to know enough about prices to make this work of course, but it's not very hard to learn
