Can you use both Metamap and Atlas, or will they interfere with each other?
Do you really need both?
If not, which is better?

Theres no point in using both as they both do exactly the same thing.
i personally use Metamap with the cosmos addon and this gives u everything u need including co-ordinates and party notes etc

atlas has a much better and clearer map system of the dungeons. so i use meta map for main map and atlas with loot for when im running dungeons. they go together very well

AlphaMap has by far the best and most configurable Instance and Battleground maps - it is part of the Cosmos package :)
Atlas is excellent and simple, AlphaMap is for advanced users if you like ;)

Cartographer > all

Cartographer (with all subs) is by far the best Map addon. Additionally, it's the most lightweight also.

This is not an opinion. It's a fact.

Actually the fact you use the word "best" makes it an opinion.

Actually the fact you use the word "best" makes it an opinion.
No it doesn't.

The word "best" doesn't make it an opinion at all.
Ex: Wayne Gretzky is by far the best professional hockey player ever.
Best is used as a fact. Because he is the best, and it's a fact.
If I had of said: Well I find cartographer is the best addon.
That would have been an opinion.

But I didn't say it that way, I said: "Cartographer (with all subs) is by far the best Map addon."

Just wanted to clear that up. ;)

Of course, it all comes down to personal preference though. If you like something don't switch. Same thing as: Wayne Gretzky doesn't need to be your favorite hockey player just because he's the best, you can have your own favorite, but the fact remains that although he's not your favorite, Wayne Gretzky remains the best player.

Sorry for double posting, I didn't mean anything against you Tunga, I was simply explaining the difference. :)

Not really, whether something is the best mod comes down to whether you prefer it or not, all things considered. It's not like a sports player which can be measured numerically. The aim of a mod is user appeal and that's completely down to personal preference.

I use Cartographer. I love it. But still, I used Atlas for a long time and (for example) find AtlasLoot to be much easier to use and read than Cartographer's loot module. It's only "the best" if you put more value on the things it does well than the things it doesn't.

I'll second the point about AtlasLoot Enhanced which is superp - bet let's not forget its compatible with AlphaMap which is also superb ;)

{ As was AtlasQuest before it fell by the way side :( }

Which reminds me, I still need to find time to plug AtlasLoot into Cartographer!

If I had to choose, I'd go for Carto, but your statement about writing an AtlasLoot Plugin sums up my problem with AddOns that try to do everything.

Instead of just taking someone elses idea and re-writing it for no reason, why not cooperate with the other author. The AlphaMap and AtlasLoot AddOns work together because they cooperated and promote each others AddOns.

And in the end the maps in both Atlas and AlphaMap are better than the ones in Carto anyway so...

Just my opinion before you flame me ;P

But if you want one of these then I'd vote for Carto ;)

how do I access Cartographer's options? I'm having a number of problems that probably stem from either my unfamiliarity with it or from me not having the right addons to go with it.

1) My coords at the bottom are all squished and I have letters/numbers on top of each other
2) I can't select dungeon maps
3) the tips say "press ctrl-right click to add a map note" but this doesn't work
4) the "cartographer" button that says it should open the menu does nothing (I have no menu)
5) there's a button that shows the zone I'm in, or looking at and when I click it (it's called "location menu", it does nothing.

That's it... if anyone else has tips on how to better use carto please let me know.

edit: was just looking at alphamap, perhaps should I scrap cartographer for alphamap?

Click the button at the top of the map?

Dude, if you port AtlasLoot to Carto, you'd be a god. As much as I love Carto, the boss loot module is NOTHING is comparison. Atlas itself, however, just sucks up too many resources for taste.

I second that.
