View Full Version : Addons locking up the game.

Recently I finally got my UI figured out and made custom to the way that I like it. I don't think I'm running as many mods as most people, but for some reason there are times when I zone into BG's or an instance and my entire game freezes. When this happens, I can't even tab out to windows to close WoW, and I'm stuck manually shutting down my pc.
The addons I use are:
Fubar (With clock, money, performance)
Closet Gnome (none of your business what's she's doing in there)
Ag_Unit Frames with Custom Layouts
Deuce Commander
Bartender 3 with Cycircled
Scrolling Combat Text with SCT D
Spammenot
SimpleCombatLog
Cartographer
I got fed up with the game locking up. Right now when I play I turn everything off except SCT and Bartender 3, but it really drives me nuts. Was wondering if anybody had a suggestion. Thanks.

You could try zoning with no addons, then turning them on one-by-one, zoning each time. If you freeze, you know which addon it was.
I'm not sure its any of those though, I've had no problems with them.
If those the only AddOns you have installed you should not have any issues. Are those AddOn the updated versions? If not update all of them.
How much RAM do you have installed in your machine? If it is less than 512 MB, then it is time to get more. 1 GB is better.
What other programs are running at the same time, aka in the background. Press Ctrl Alt Del and click on the Processes tab. You will likely be surprised at the amount of crap running in the background.

It was the big Photek UI package that I was using. I installed the entire package, but didn't see the need for alot of the addons. I think I'll either find another custom UI to use or just delete my addon folder and restart fresh.

More ram to support that or just remove them is the only options, sorry dude.

Undeadgnome, can you PLEASE shut up? Judging from your other posts you ain't got the game, so trying to solve technical issues is not your job.
For OP: I believe this is the trash collection of a performance mod.. My game freezes from time to time when I play and that is when MiniPerfsFu does a trash collection.. Try turning it off and zone and see if it solves it.

How did you come to this conclusion? How much Ram does Valliance have in his system? You have not even ran the game yet, not even installed a single addon, you have no idea how much Ram he has in his machine and you're giving a technical diagnosis? Are you for real?

My pc has a gig of ram, 256mb AGP video card, and 3.4 processor. Generally speaking from the time my computer boots (which I have any extra programs disabled from starting with Windows) I do one whole thing...play WoW.
Honestly, the three biggest addons that I need to function is bartender, scrolling combat text, and Unit Frames. I had the lockup problem when using 3 different Unit frame mods, so I doubt that any of the three is causing the problem.
Maybe I'll just delete my wtf folder and reconfigure. Or maybe it's just some part of the fubar that's fubar'd.

Valiance, my advice would be to talk to Kalos in the technical forum. If it's a full on hardware lockup you could potentially be looking at a heat / dust buildup / subtle component incompatibility that has nothing to do with the actual addons. He will usually sort out those types of problems right smartly.
The only thing that would cause issues of that kind via WoW is if you have several different versions of the various Ace2 libraries. Sometimes when you download Ace2 based mods off the various mod sites you may get different versions of the libraries needed to the run mod(s). Then the conflicts can cause serious issues (at least until the first Garbage Collection) that can include lag, low FPS, lock ups and graphical issues. I should know having to track down and deal with misbehaving mods. Here is a way to prevent that:
1. If you want to start fresh clean out your AddOns folder
2. Now grab WoWAceUpdater (WAU) http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=178751. You do need the Microsoft.Net 2.0 Runtime as well.
3. Unzip WAU to somewhere handy like your Desktop. Open the WAU folder and double click on the WAU icon to run it. No installation is needed.
4. Now select !!!StandAloneLibraries in the list of AddOns and then select File -> Install/Update AddOns Without Externals
WAU will now download !!!StandAloneLibraries, then unpack and download and install the various Ace2 libraries contained inside.
5. Once WAU has finished, use WAU to select the AddOns you want to download. In your case Bartender3, SCT, a unit frames mod (Pitbull or ag_UnitFrames) are all downloadable through WAU. Almost all other Ace2 mods including FuBar can be downloaded this way. Just tick the checkboxes for each mod you wish to install
6. Again select Files -> Install/Update AddOns without Externals
WAU will then download and install your new AddOns. You just have to sit back and relax while WAU does the grunt work.
The advantage with using this method is a) it is fast and easy, b) WoW will load faster, and c) no conflicting library versions.
In the future you can use WAU to update your mods. Just press the keyboard sequence F4, F12 for fast easy updates

Thank you much for the advice. I will try that as soon as I get home from my 24 hour shift at work

I too am having this problem. It seems to happen with AG_Unitframes. For some reason joining a raid group will cause a crash with most if not all player frames. I've tried with Pitbull, AG_Unitframes, and X-Perl and they all reproduce the crash. I can't seem to figure out what exactly in the raid causes the crash, but it seems to happen more often if there are more then 1 of the same class in a group. The authors of the addons are aware of the issues and are trying to find a fix but it may just be a bug on Blizz's side.

If it's the case, and it's in fact the unit frames (which was one of the things I initially considered) I'm wondering if I can use x-Perl and just disable the raid portion of the addon.
Or heck, I would gladly download good ol' Perl Classic. It's not so much that I have to have pretty bars to look at. It just seems to me that if the action is going on in the middle of my screen, the health/rage bars should be somewhere closer for visability.

I'm now seeing similar behavior after the latest WoW patch downloaded. This is with a combination of eePanels, PitBull, etc. I'm just running a WowAce update now to see if that sorts it out.

SetMapToCurrentZone() inside OnUpdate
was not working as intended in 2.1 (which is why a lot of co-ord mods were not working properly).
GetPlayerMapPosition() is borked too.
Slouken posted that he would fix it in 2.1.2
Looks like it might have got worse.

After running the WowAce updater and simply allowing it to update (Previous update was about a week or so ago) it fixed my lock up problem. At least, I could play for about half an hour where before it lasted about 5 minutes.
