Has anybody else discovered after patch 2.1 that your ratio of 'fish got away' has risen? My skill is 330, and I'm using that rod from quest in lower city, with 100 lure (aquadynamic something).

I noticed that over 60% of the fish got away, sometimes 4-5 in a row. that's terrible! I put in a ticket only to be told by gm to post something in the forums (which I did) and that upcoming changes to fishing will only make that worse.

What is the point of blizzard making it so hard to fish? Those buffs are some of the best in game IMHO

What area were you fishing? I leveled to 375 this weekend. When I was fishing in Terrokar, I didn't really notice a higher level of "your fish got away" then usual. I was using Seth's rod and the lure that looks like Core of Elements.

Also....what changes are they making to fishing? I should level my other toon before they make these changes.

he didn't elaborate on that but if it's worse that this, it's gonna be bad. I'm talking about how you don't get a fish when the timer is up - all you get is a splash. But I've got another suggestion from another forum to click on the bobber 1-2 seconds prior to the end of the timer and you should get a fish. I'm gonna try that one. I was fishing around Halaa and that lake surrounding it.

My wife has also complained about the fact that you bobber promptly goes away at 20s... even if it just splashed.

Couple of things. First, for every zone, there is a minimum skill required to fish at all. If you are below whatever the number is for the zone you're trying to fish, you can't even cast there. Adding fishing skill through lures, gear, etc, will make it so you can cast, but then a second number comes into place. Comparable to other professions which have "chance to skill-up" levels, there is a point above the minimum able to cast threshhold that will significantly reduce (if not eliminiate) having your fish get away. If you are below that number, you'll be able to cast, but a lot of your fish will get away and you'll waste a lot of time. If you are over that number, you'll catch something every time you click the bobber when it splashes.

With the patch, there is a bit of an issue when the splash occurs at the end of the casting bar. Before, if the bar expired you could still click on the bobber and reel it in. Currently, once the meter ends, the lure becomes unclickable. So if the splash doesn't happen until right at the end of the meter, your timing has to be perfect in order to get it in time. Lag may also cause problems with this.

Soooo with all that being said, to go back to the OP--if you're able to cast but are getting a lot of "Your fish got away" messages, you need to either get more fishing skill to fish where you're at, or you need to find a fishing area that has lower required fishing levels. Assuming you're starting out at around 300, have decent gear, and good lures, I think the only place you'll be able to consistently catch fish is the lake in Zangarmarsh that is in the southeast corner of the zone. Everywhere else, as far as I know, has higher requirements and you'll miss a lot of fish until you get your skill over 330 or so. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are, but it's somewhere in that neighborhood.

Hope that helps!

Bear in mind - they also got rid of the ability for no "bobbing action" to occur...meaning even if you had 289731920381730187 fishing skill pre-patch, every once in awhile your cast would simply not "bob".

Now, every cast will "bob" and be selectable for looting. That "no bob" effect has translated into "Your fish got away", so just think of it like that.
