Would be nice to see timestamps. How long did he keep trying?

If he would not have been begging for money he would not have had to go through this.

I see this work and I am amused. The persistence of beggars can indeed be used against them for they are easy to lead on upon false hopes. Well played.

It took me about 1/2 - 2/3 through the screenshot to finally figure out what the beggar was asking. honestly, if someone was that persistent, I'd probably egg them on too. If only to get them irritated enough to possibly shut up.

Well, "the prince" shows interest in the trade and agrees to give it to "the pauper" (for a price, but still), which is quite uncommon for beggars, at least from what I've seen. If the pauper's stumped to the level of whispering people at random, begging, he'll undoubtedly go the whole nine yards to get what he wants.
Thus, I'd say the prince's bringing it onto himself, where other people wouldn't have bothered to respond at all (everyone should be able to see, that this person wants something).

The prince's simply making a fool out of the pauper, which I think is mean.

The grammar police just annoys me in general, though.

There's nothing worse than someone who wants you to go out of your way to do something for them, but won't take the time or effort to try and use words that actually exist in the English language.

The prince's simply making a fool out of the pauper, which I think is mean.

To a point. While at times, I'll usually just ignore random whispers like that, at other times, if it tickles my fancy, I'll delve into it and lay the person out as a fool. Is it mean? Sure. But honestly, I'm tired of having to put up with the random begging nonsense that otherwise interferes with me doing what I wanted to do -- which was play the game. Some times it cuts in and breaks whisper/replies I'm using to talk to other people, but it generally is just annoying. Given enough time for me to get annoyed, I occasionally feel the need to annoy the person who bugged me back. So... I'll do something quite similar to who you call the "prince" did -- lead the "pauper", or beggar on, pulling them in and mocking them for their troubles. Wasting their time and occasionally getting them seriously ticked off. Am I being mean? Maybe, or maybe not. There's always the chance that the individual realizes what he or she is doing, and refrains from butting into and interfering with others in such a rude and inconsiderate manner (there are times I can sympathize with Hannibal Lecter).

The grammar police just annoys me in general, though.

I try to refrain from being a part of the grammar police. I can understand a typo here, a mis-worded phrase there... but honestly... the initial statement of the beggar in that screenshot.... that wasn't even anything remotely approaching recognizable as English. Like I said, it took reading down the screenshot to finally get an idea, at all of what the beggar was wanting.

That said, a tagline I am always using, and have used for more years than I can remember, one I made up because of my atrocious typos:

"I'm not responcabel fer my comuter's spleling errnors."

NO! Do not supply beggars - it only encourages them to keep begging. There is no one in WoW that cannot go out and earn their own gold - I will NOT enable someone laziness.

I agree fully with your statement... the first statement only though. It's very cruel to make fun of someone trying to speak in a foreign language but he was begging and therefore deserved to be treated as the lowest caste in WoW. Unlike in real life, all WoW beggars are beggars out of choice and laziness. There are no "hard times", "unemployment" or "disabilities" in WoW and therefore begging in WoW is something to be treated as harshly as possible. It was lucky in this case that there was a way to attack them... usually it's a level 1 alt that just ignores anything other than sexual comments and trade requests.

Yeah, I thought that thing would come up sooner or later. Sorry for being a product of the urban community (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=grammar+nazi). :undecided:

Nevertheless, my message got through and people knew, what I was talking about, which is the exact same thing that goes in this case. When you've got the point, which I think was easy to decipher from the beginning, say either yes or no. This guy makes the beggar rephrase the sentence more than 10 times. He's clearly not ever going to get it right, so why not release him of the disillusion of a reward.

That's simple consideration and what this "prince" (taken from Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper" to tell them apart) is doing is far worse than getting a few words wrong, in what might not be your first language, in my opinion. There's about a billion who speaks it as a first or second language already, so it probably won't take substantial damage.

I agree that one shouldn't support beggars, due to reasons already listed, but that's what this guy's doing by giving the beggar (false) hope.

Feel free to treat beggars any way you want, they probably deserve it. I'm just saying that I think this guy crosses the line, and I would personally just have cut him off instantly.

Oh, and sorry for bringing (and hopefully closing) this up again, but I was sleeping. :cloud9:
