you could do it if you only counted combat time, but we are talking total time played here aren't we? but even if you didn't bother running quests that had any length to them and kept to the quick kill quests, you would still run long on time just from going for training. and if you didn't go for training you would be even slower.

btw just curious, what all mods do u have running there. particuraly the mods affecting the lower part of the screen and buttons.

Looks like TitanPanel, TrinityButtons and SimpleMinimap. Stigg managed 2d 18h to level 40, but that included leveling First Aid, Fishing, Cooking and his professions to the maximum they could go. So, I'm half wondering what Thmpr's claim would work out like. Is it actually possible? If it is, it would be very hard, I think.

i just see 2hrs to 15 as impossible...especially if you are changing areas...obivously i spent some time getting to barrens from silvermoon

I cannot beat 40 minutes to level 5 ..try as I might..In 2 hours I can't do more than lv 9 I guess..about 4 hours to lv 12..and from there it just gets gradually worse as quests send you all over the place.

If thrmp did 15 in 2 hours he proved that shamans are OP after all - but indeed, a screenie with /played, please (not that you can't photoshop them)

(I usually take around 2 days to get into the mid 20s...now for 34 exactly 3 days. 2 professions at 225 and 189 and also grinding Darnassus rep (she is a Draenei) to ride a Nightsaber at 40. Making money for that too, because she has no help and is my only Alliance character.

Definitely not joining the "fast leveler club" here..more enjoying the chance of scenery

Could one simply look at the total ammount of XP needed to level to 15, then divide that by 2 to get the xp/hr needed to achieve such a feat? Then you could go further to calculate how many mobs whould have to be killed assuming X number of XP is given per mob in a starting zone. Throw in Y ammount of XP from quests. I'm not that big on math and don't have the resources to check these numbers from where I am, but it should be pretty easy to calculate for someone who's into that kind of stuff.

You answered my question after the second time I asked. Answer on the first time and I won't have to question you again. I remember when you used to be helpful.../sigh

It takes 92,800 XP to get to level 15. or an avg of 6,186 xp/hr. Which, is easily doable if you

a)have a port to the barrens asap
b) have upgraded weapons asap
c) have ports to and from Org

umm your math is a little off...in two hours to 15, you would have to do 46400 xp/hr not 6186 xp/hr

Tanitha

I think Stigg meant per level (?) as dividing 92,800 by 15 gives you roughly that. But, I've decided to take the Great thmpr Challenge of 2007. I will roll a new Shaman on Lightninghoof tonight and I'll plot how fast I can get to level 15. I'll post the /played when I'm done, but it might take a few days as I have limited play time.

The only question I have is - can we fund this from our mains? Was thmpr a new player or an old one?

rottentomato

rottentomato
07-06-2007, 11:08 PM
id assume any class...i may start up with a rogue or hunter to see how fast i can get there with a DPS class...i am sure i have screenies of other alts around this level...lemme check

ok all my others are around 13hrs /played....

started a new rogue...so we'll see how it goes...imma send myself some gear...and hope for the best... im sure itll be interesting, since hunters cant get pets till lvl 10, so it makes them useless

Tanitha
07-06-2007, 11:09 PM
thmpr used a Shaman, so that is what I'll be using. I'm figuring we open it up to any class though as people will be more proficient / less proficient with different classes. (I've only ever played a Shaman to level 8). So yeah, roll whatever you want and go for it!

And the average mob between 1-15 nets what, 100xp per kill?

maybe each quest gives 600-1000xp? we'll say 5 quests per hour since it seems like the person in question is bragging about how many mobs one could kill and wasn't focusing on quests. so we'll give him 10,000xp for quests to be generous which means he'd have to be killing somewhere between 400 and 450 mobs per hour? I think that equals one mob killed every 8-9 seconds continually for 2 hours.

Again I'm pulling these numbers completely off the top of my head because I'm not at home, so I could be waaaay off. but at the very least it may give an idea of what it would take to make it.

rottentomato
07-06-2007, 11:23 PM
alright chums lets do this!!! LLEEEEEEROOOOYYYYY JEEEENNNNKKKKIIIINNNSSSSS!!

here is the breakdown mathwise

lvl 15 cumulative xp is 92800... break that down into two hours

46400xp/hr

thats 464 kills in an hour being 100xp a kill average...8 kills a minute...even doing quests and killing everything i cross and not looting...i cant even break 20k xp/hr at lvl 12 much less 46k xp....especially since you have to train abilities...which takes a LOT off your grinding times...you didnt use all your level 1 abilities that you are blessed with did you?

i dont buy it at all...im coming up to lvl 8 on my priest with an hour and 20 minutes...and i dont level slow by any means

just checked exactly how many kills of equal level mobs you would have to do 960 kills so 16 kills an hour or 4 kills a minute...15 seconds a kill plus you trained abilities? doubt it

I'm going to have to concur. But it does depend on race (starting area), and class. I've never really timed myself, but I've gotten to 17 in under 6 hours before easily. I want to say I pushed to 20 in 10 hours or less, as a Draenei or Blood Elf (better quest XP and more quests all around_/1

not possible since one of the patches...i think 1.8? they changed it so that its based upon damage dealt in a party, so the party member doing 99.9% of the damage gets 99.9% of the exp...so on a 100 xp mob...you MIGHT get 2xp from your standing there while the AoE is going on...hardly worth it

Not possible anymore? Perhaps you've forgotten already how the first level 70 got that way? He had an entire 40 man raid following him killing everything he tagged.

The level 70 would not be in your party, he would follow you around and kill everything you tag.

here is the rogue i started...lvl 6 already, sat him in an inn, im going to let the rested xp build for a few days so when i hop on itll be double XP...thats really the only way i can assess being able to level anywhere near another 10 levels in an hour and a half

You're going a lot faster on that Rogue than I am managing on a Shaman. There's a boatload of running involved in Mulgore, I think the proximity of quests in Eversong will make it easier, but possible? Gaak.

I've chosen the same trick, I've just logged off in an Inn and will be building rested XP. It's still going to be rough going, because I've got about an hour left for another 9 levels. So now I can hear the Nelson Haha!

yea i picked the BE rogue because i just leveled to 17 four times now... (mage, pally, priest, preist twink) so i know the quests and can almost do them blindfolded...just waiting on my bags for the 2nd phase...im deciding if i want to just grind it with no looting or actually loot things...some of the quests i know im going to avoid in particular once i get going because they make you run all over hells half acres, and i can grind faster than i can run across the map

I would say that 15 in 2 hours is very "possible" with the help of a high level friend say a 70 hunter.

Now we all know that you are going to get little or no experience from the kills, however any quests like kill 15 <Random mob> and report back, etc will take mere seconds with the pet on aggressive and just running around.
Also time to run back to quest givers will be reduced also thanks to aspect of the pack.

Hey! Maybe that means we should get the mods in on the contest! They're so incredibly fast. Anyway ... topic ... topic ... oh yes. It's a pity about the pet not giving experience. That would be a surefire way, especially with the combination of Aspect of the Pact. Although, would it work on a low level player? how was anything we said off-topic from the thread? the entire point of the thread was RT saying, "look, i'm a really good leveler and gold maker, and i think thmpr's claim of 1-15 in 2 hours is BS, oh look at me!! i'm the great RT!!" and in that context nothing we said were off-topic. and even you have to acknowledge that every thead eventually goes off-topic, unless you lock every thread after 2 pages.

Technically, it could be possible, as long as you have an army of warlocks summoning you to and from every quest-related spot.

"Army of Warlocks" does sound like a support act at a particularly low-rent metal gig.

even with all that, i highly doubt you'd have enough quest xp to sustain you to lvl 15. of course you can always put it to try.

I doubt it as well, as I said earlier. The only way it would be possible would to have a high hunter rush you through all the quests with pack on.

It would also help if you already had to hand things like "stacks of boar meat" for quest hand ins.

I now think that 15 in 2 hours would be possible with a bit of preparatory work and doing quests only.

You would be able to totally clear northshire and elwynn and would be a good way through westfall quests within the 2 hours and why bother slowing down to learn new skills when your hunter mate is doing all of the killing and you simply tagging behind looting.

the only thing youre getting the xp from is the quests doing this...you dont get full xp at all for tagging anything and then having the hunter whack at it...now a pally on a mage once the mage gets AoE...now youre talking...but drinking and stuff slows you down a lot

Some people here can be so mean! He didn't post for people to call him out on it! He is feel free to be happy about any amount of time it took him to lvl. GOOD GOING RTOMATO! It takes me so long to lvl! I really like your mods though. I can't even tell you how long it took for me to lvl my priest but than again I socialize too much to lvl consistently. Mainly questing or grinding? I instanced my way up hehe

kcma may be the AH king...but i can level a rogue pretty darn fast...im sure ill hit 20 in around 14-16 hours played....unless of course...i can make it to 15 in 2 hours...then ill hit 20 in 4...lol that would be impressive

All this "have a aspect of pack hunter", "have stacks of quest items" is really beyond the point imho, because he wanted to prove that shamans are OP. Not that he himself can level extremly fast....

fair enough...that was the original intent...now if a shaman can step up to the plate and level as fast as me just to 15 and snag a screenie then we can see who is OP...lol im just doing normal quests and grinding...thats it...tossing on two +15 agility enchants on the first green items i can snag at lvl 10 and there is that...

Yeah, Kcma has some rich toons lol. Are you going to stay at 19 to twink her a bit or is this just a thing to see how fast you can lvl? 15 in 2 hours..that would be AMAZING! You would have to write your own leveling guide  The second I turned 40 my computer crashed. I didn't even get to see my little elf go into shadowform :undecided: . Now I'm just trying to install it on my sister's computer (She gave it to me because she couldn't fix it hehe) Do all of your characters lvl that fast or is this a kind of mission thing?

Well, that's just it, they aren't. I took a shammy from 1-70 in a couple of weeks, while finishing off levelling my hunter. It required some careful planning of questing zones and routes to maximise efficiency. Sure, some levels brought new abilities which saved time- like ghost wolf and astral recall. It's undeniable that levelling as enhancement with decent killing power and the ability to heal yourself simplifies matters too- but this probably only reaches its full potential in the hands of a relatively experienced player, and is certainly no kind of IWIN button.

Most of it is down to the player, rather than the class. I managed to level my first character, a healing-specced priest, a lot faster than the people around me. I had the problem that people I grouped with were soon left behind due to my fondness for using sneaky tactics to solo orange quests.

Some classes do get breaks which make life a lot easier while levelling, undeniably- rogues and hunters both have an easy time of it. Druids get stealth and healing abilities, which means they are clearly haxx, if well-played, but we all knew that. On the whole, however, there isn't too huge a disparity, and pretty much any class can level quickly if they pick their fights carefully, and plan their itinerary carefully.

I concede that mobs and quests in Draenai starting zones favor Shaman in regards to fast levelling.

I lvll'd (shammy) to 70 in 11Days, including getting my mining and JC up to max. I really dont think this is all that fast, but i can provide screenies if required.

1-15 in 2hrs is pretty unlikely; it may be possible with a hunter with you atop and drop out of grp while you kill; have a healer top you up all the time - so you dont die, and a warlock summon you to and from the quest start to quest location. But then i have to ask why bother? Do it in 4 hours and perhaps enjoy it a little? :)

Shellar,

I don't know, Draeni hunters with the benefit of Gift of the Naaru are levelling rockets, too :)

I have to say, once you've seen starter area quests five or more times, the enjoyment starts to pall. On your Nth character, you're counting the mobs until you level up enough to get travel speed enhancements, be they travel form, aspect or the lv 40 mount..

Also true...that and combined with being a hunter made the Paladin I started at the same time in the BE area pale in comparison. Didn't even need Gift of the Naaruu so far...

I think the draenei hunter was at 26 in the time that took the Paladin to reach 20 (and she had a lv 70 kill Dhak'Tar (sp) for that Sindorei warblade, too)

hmm, i guess my obvious question is why have you done the same starting area so many times? To my knowledge there are only 9 character types, with 8 starting zones - surely then you shouldnt really be starting in the same zone much more than twice?

ofc, you can do the same starter zone over and over - but i think thats my point about game enjoyment...

the priest i already have a twink sister of....this rogue ill level to 15, and start the twink process im sure...either that or bring it up to the 29 level, but i think ill keep it at 19 just because i love that bracket so much

Not in two hours. Going all-out grinding even in the best of areas won't generate that much xp for a beginning character. I don't know how long it does take, but I know it can't be done in two hours with a new toon, probably not even if you were twinked to the hilt, unless he had a 70 with him or something.

Can I just say...that those of you who took it seriously...I don't think the guy who said 2 hours to 15 was being literal, I think he was simply saying that it doesnt take much time to get to 15 by using an expression which captured the extreme feelings he had regarding shaman, or whatever it was. So the whole conversation is moot in my opinion. OP, just relax.

Well, I'm about 80% through around 6 quests as well, most of them orange. So, I'll stick it out with this one and see how fast it goes for me. No harm if it's not the fastest, it's my first time as a Tauren Shaman

Do it Tanitha! I absolutely hate the Tauren starting zones. The worst in the game IMO.
