Right, I left my pc running a virus checker and went to work. When I came back it had a Blue Screen of Death. Needless to say, I didn't record what it said :(
So I restart it to see what happens, and nothing. Everything spins up and all the fans go round, but it doesn't post, no beep no splash screen, nothing.. :(
I even tried unplugging everything except for the motherboard & processor, memory and video card to see if I could get it at least to load the bios, but nothing :(
Is there a way of testing the individual components?
Any suggestions? Is it time to take it to a professional who can test each component?

Usually when I test components for damage, I use two rigs, and do switching between them. Graphics card firstly, PSUs, maybe even CPUs if slot compatible. Helps rule out certain components as having fried.
What are the full components of this machine?

Well, I have a Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 motherboard
an
Intel E6420 processor
the ram is Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL4
I'm cooling it all with a Zalman CNPS7700-CU Copper 120mm fan
and the video card is an EVGA 8800GTS 320Mb
I've taken everything off the mobo bar the processor and the cooler, and when I switch it on, I get nothing. No beeps, just a sort of click. I've even turned the speaker cable around to make sure that I have it connected the right way around.
I've changed the PSU for my old one, whcih would power the system up but not run the GFX card properly and that doesn't work either.
So I think it's either Mobo or processor. Would I be able to tell by looking at it if the processor is broken?

You wouldn't be able to tell by looking. Far too many potential things that could have gone wrong in the processor logic, invisable, to cause this. I'm afraid a new motherboard is mostly likely needed. Must have been a bad board from the factory that finaly gave out one day.

Thought so :(
Oh well - back it goes to the manufacturer
Thanks for your help,

gt a new motherboard - the cheapest one I could find - and what do you know - it works!
It'll do until I get my other one back. Just need to reinstall windows now :(
