Some time ago, somebody had told me about a couple plugins for firefox called adblocker and scriptblocker, but I can't find the links to them... anyone remember (or the person who told me about them?)
I think I may have found adblocker but I'm not sure if its the same plugin, and I can't seem to locate scriptblocker at all... :(

Careful, Sluggy:
3. Thou Shalt Not Advertise. We do not intend to serve as a linking service or a search engine to other sites. Links that wouldn't be allowed anywhere on the forums (including signatures, and location) would be links to sites (commercial OR personal) that have:
Pornographic, racist or illegal materials, including game cheats or hacks
Profit sites (any get rich quick sites). This is sites that earn the poster a profit/commission or sites that give points for incoming links
Sites offering similar or the same content as WorldofWar.Net. It has taken many 'man' hours to compile the sites' content and as such our commitment to the promotion of that content is total. Neither do we allow visitors to use our forum membership as a means to build their own sites from, using our Private Messaging system to recruit writers and/or their content or membership drives for their own forums. Do not send Spam to members via the PM system.

I thought these were endorsed... I had gotten them from the forums here before. I wish I could remember the context of the thread (sure that it was something about goldspam), and it's not software exactly, it's a plug-in for ff.
:(
Dunno... if I get a mod saying that discussing noscript and adblocker is taboo then I'll drop it.

Adblocker has been considered taboo in the past, anything that stops the advertisements on this site is against the rules. There's nothing against Noscript however, that's a legitimate security upgrade which most of the dwellers of the Technical forum would urge FF users to download and impliment; very handy and closes some of the larger vunerabilities.
Contrary to popular belief, Firefox is more than possible to hack and is not immune to blindingly stupid flaws (Try using Firefox with a large company FTP server). However, having less than the competition and the advantage of not being picked apart by tens of thousands of hackers of the last ten years tends to mean FF's flaws are less noticable and are exploited less often due to a lack of familiarity and no standard basis. It is better, but it's not perfect either.

Firefox is decent enough, and since it is open source, bug fixes tend to be more readily available and patched in than in IE's case. But it isn't perfect, like Kalos said. Firefox w/ NoScript, and running in any platform that is not made by Microsoft makes it very secure and safe to use.

I personally prefer Opera to FF myself, compared to FF security wise it's pretty much bulletproof, has a faster rendering engine, and has alot of COMMON features that FF requires extensions for (such as content blocking, per-domain settings, etc) natively, as well as having a proper MDI :)

Pretty much what the others gents have already said. The poster who put up those links got in a bit of hot water for doing that as well. It's not as if the Bossman and Bosslady are swimming in money and it costs a pretty penny to keep all of this up and running. So stuff that bleeps out the adds. Not on their happy happy joy joy list.
Which is also why they yell at the advertising company when the latter adds something they shouldn't. Rock - hard place and all that jazz.

Understood ;)
Won't hear a peep from me again about these addons. Although, if I might divert the thread to something else, is Opera simply a browser? Is it easy/difficult to install/use?

opera = browser.
very easy to install.
I could say it's easy to use, but I been using it since.. uh.. 1996 :p
so I'm quite used to using it.. and I can't stand IE or FF because I'm too used to using opera in certain ways (like keyboard shortcuts & navigating, opening multiple windows inside opera's main window and whatnot, plus I configured the ui for my taste/use)

Just a tip for adblock: You can add his site to the exception rules so it will load the ads.

It was I that posted the info before and got a sharp rap on the knuckles from Elly so I'm not gonna do it again

Opera's OK enough. Been playing with the Wii version of Opera as of late. I have the Linux version installed on my home computer (along with IE6, IE7, and Firefox of course -- yes, all in Linux). Opera definitely has made HUGE strides to being useful since the last time I really tinkered with it.
