This is what i'm wondering from this thread.
I want to level my next char (when i get to 70) with James' levelling guide, but im wondering if its a bit too exp orientated rather than fun.

I know its supposed to be like that, but, should i really lose the fun for the amazingly quick levelling?

Credit to James. Whoever he is. That guide is amazing.

that guide just explain what quests u should do and what quests to avoid, its not a just grind guide, he say where u should go and what u should do there and when u should go back, makes things alot easy

if you have to ask that question perhaps your time is better spend working or going to school or something...

"wondering if it's a bit too exp orientated rahter than fun."

i mean... just do what u find fun and let the xp come to you? or am i insane?

I have used it for my newest character, currently a lvl 48 mage, and I find it fun. Sometimes there are parts in it where it gets a bit frusturating or when you have to grind a lvl out or something.

If you really want to find out about it. Go read the first few lvls of it and see if you would enjoy it.

or am i insane?

I would say yes - but I don't see what that has to do with this thread

I have been using it on my two alts. There hasnt been many times so far when he has said to grind and in most cases I have avoided it anyway as I often have rested XP.

One is a Holy Priest and I only level her with rested XP. The other is a hunter which by nature is a fast leveler and so I have had a bit of grinding with him, but not much.

So I would say it is fun. I use it as a template and deviate from it from time to time.

As a free tool it is great!

FFS,

Play the game and have fun. Don't ask questions about something that you want to have as a guideline, and then ask if it is fun!!!

Use it or not. Nobody on this entire planet can tell you if it is fun or not except yourself.

/rant

Don't use guides to play games, you could just as well throw time down the drain.

Just my 200$

I just follow his guide to save time and have some fun:

- There are a few NPCs that one can always miss, if not known. Most of his guide has got that. Like Swamp Of Sorrows. I never knew there were quests for alliance there ... lol

- If you take all the quests from a place and start doing a quest, you never know you can complete 2 or 3 quests in one go, which is really a time saver. Like there are two druid NPCs standing right next to some Taurens in the Ferelas, very hard to find.

Other then that, I don't use his guide.

I've used the guide as a reference for some of the "gotcha" quests whilst levelling previous characters and for that I found it useful.

I tried to follow it 100% on my latest alt, but I got very, very bored following it to the letter. I managed to stick to it 100% for about one level, after that I went back to using my own knowledge from previous characters combined with the guide.

I'd just scan what he was recommending for the next level or two and decide what to do by myself. In my experience, following it completely was no fun. I felt like I was just grining out a set of instructions rather than playing.

This is my no means a criticism of the guide, he's put tons of work into it and it is very useful.

I think Jame's guide is amazing. Especially for a casual player like me who doesn't get enough time on WoW as I'd like, I can level fast. I've taken my alt to lvl 53 in 6 days /played following his guide from the start. And it's FREE!

The Horde side does have a bit more grinding but that's the fault of the quest designers not Jame's, Horde questlines aren't as circuit-driven as Alliance. Even so, by the time you hit the 50s and do the quests he/she recommends, you're earning 4700-5250 XP per quest and the levels are literally flying by.

58 in no time for outlands!

Levelling my first char was fun, the second was fun coz i kind of new where i was going but still found new stuff. Levelling my nth char is most definitely not fun and a guide to get through it as fast as possible is a good thing

I started using Jame's guide when I started to get too many quests from all over the place and was looking for some guidance as to which quests to do and stop bouncing from area to area just to complete one quest or 2.

I do not follow the guide to the T, and will deviate when I feel like doing a different quest. I use it more as a guideline to to help keep me on track. I've taken my character from lvl 30 to 45, with the help of his guide. And I'm still having fun.

yeah, that's how I came across it, random google search for power leveling guide! But now you have the added advantage of knowing the name of the person who wrote it - makes search much easier.

I tried at lvl 40. But i found it was impossible to get back on track.
I thought it was too much effort to keep going places i've never been before.
And so i'd recommend you should start right at the beggining.
It probably is because i'm a retard mind

I recommend you use the guide to powerlevel yourself past parts of the game you don't enjoy or when you start feeling "stuck" at a certain level. For example, while levelling my characters I tend to dislike the mid-30 levels and late-40/early 50 so I try to level past them as quickly as possible.

Hm..is this guide free?

Certainly not paying money..if I have a question I come here. Exploring and discovering new areas is great and exciting for me. The game doesn't seem to be so hard until now anhow.

Kill so and so many of those, Kill so and so many of these, bring a letter to whatshis name, collect umpfteen whatchamacallits...

Hardly astrophysics. And addons like FuBar even tell you the recommended level for a zone, if you don't have the good sense to run, when something ?? approaches...

Levelling my first char was fun, the second was fun coz i kind of new where i was going but still found new stuff. Levelling my nth char is most definitely not fun and a guide to get through it as fast as possible is a good thing

When you are on your nth character - shouldn't you KNOW by then what the fastest way is? You should be able to write a guide yourself :ponder:

james' guide is free, and its good for a starting player that doesnt know the areas too well...and its actually pretty decent for the xp/hr ratio. i think you can start it at lvl 12 if im not mistaken...otherwise it starts at lvl 20. i did it for the first toon, and i just remember where to go after that.

Even experienced players find that they waste time if not intentionally optimizing the order in which they do things. I'm sure everyone's completed a quest, and then gotten another quest somewhere else that involves killing in the same area they were just in, even if they've done it a few times before. A detailed guide minimizes this.

It is a decent guide. I believe he recommends starting at level 21, but taking Honshu's Barrens Guide to get from 10 to 21.

I have a printout of the guide at hand and will read through the level I'm about to do before heading out. I don't follow it religiously, but if I happen to be in an area that matches what he has in the guide, I'll pick up the quests that he recommends.

Is it fun? I don't know if following it exclusively will be fun. That, to me, seems to take a lot of the magic inherent in exploring and discovering things out of it. However, that would depend on what your goals are at the end of the day.

Ive used Brian Kopps guide and found it fun, but my first char i did on my own and found that its a bit slower to do it without one but alot funner.

It's alot more fun to know where to go than running around blindly back and forward.

I used his guide on my 2nd character - 51 paladin now - and It's fun to use, I have even recommended it to my friends who started 1-2 months ago. Then I don't get these whispers anymore: "Where do I go now", "Red quest here - help me plz".

For Horde players, for levels 10-20 I recommend doing them in Ghostlands, they are the new style of quests tightly grouped and not too much travelling. Unlike the barrens which seems to be endless running.

its def free....and i know we probably cant link it because he is a wow-pro (hint hint) and all...but you know...the guide is exactly that...a guide. pretty much guidelines on what to do and how to do it for those that arent as experienced in playing. i used it for my hunter when i switched to horde side because i just didnt know where to even begin once i hit barrens...now that ive done it once, i remember the quests he does, and i pick up a few others that he doesnt do which dont net as much xp, but they are useful none the less...as long as my circuit doesnt change, its all good...i do the same areas and walk the same path, but some places i just skip alltogether out of his guide (desolace comes to mind) i personally prefer to play my game looking at the screen and not reading a set of instructions...so i read what area i go to, and play from there. some of it seems like a waste of xp for me, but it beats the pants out of grinding it out
