View Full Version : I Hate the Prince

Last week my guild had our first attempt at Prince after finishing Terestrian and Aran. Prince Malchezaar turned out to be easier than we thought, a basic tank and spank with some moving required. We one-shotted him on our first attempt. Go us.
Fast forward to this weeks attempt - we think we're going to get Prince over with and spend some time with Nightbane.
Saturday night we wiped 9 times in a row on Prince before we called it an evening. Elementals kept either dropping on the tanks head or boxing in the ranged. At first we just thought it was bad luck - but 9 times in a row?
So we tried again on Sunday, and it took us 4 more attempts before we finally got him down again. I mean, I just can't afford this; time wise or repair-bill wise every week. I hate this guy.
The good news though is that after that, we went and downed Nightbane on our first attempt. Kara is now officially cleared. But I don't know if I can take it if Prince ends up being such a hassle every week.

A lot can depend with Infernal placement.. that's just the way it goes with him. You can mitigate it some by being proactive about how you move Him... keep note of the first infernals and where they fall so you know where your escape routes will be when they despawn... but somtimes they just screw you.
Besides repair bills are what raiding is about... just wait til you get to Hydross LOL.

Prince has been never been a problem with gd communication & raid movement. To be honest..

To be fair, there are times where good communication, quick movement and perfect tanking simply can't save you from the elementals. Its just bad luck.
Worst we've had is 3 wipes in a row, followed by a very easy take down. Most often its been one or two shot.
I know what you're saying Steamboat, the repair bill can be a pain. With work commitments I find it very hard to find the time to grind before the nexts night session starts.
But if you want the nice gear . . . .

i used to think that too, but ever since i do the raid placement we never had infernal problems again. the key is to think FAR ahead. By far i mean 2 infernals at least. and have in mind when which one despawns.
there is ALWAYS free space. you just need someone who is awake enugh to find it.

Cheers twoflower. Our main priest always does it, but to be fair, he's got enough to do already.
I read one of your other posts saying it took you a week or two to perfect it. I'll try and have a go this week, see if it makes any difference.

Most suited for the checking the area is a hunter (works for us) , they can put on autoshot for ages and just scout around a little. deadlybossmods with fernaltimer also works wonderfull , if u remember what fernal is what bar, its a breeze

we also had a healer do it at first, but he left the guild :( still, he was able to do the positioning and be first in the heal meter at the same time. I guess it is one of the few places in this game where skill realy makes things easier :)
anyway, yes it needs some practicing. And some getting used to. I was realy nervous the first few times i did it :)
Still am btw, that's why i like the encounter. in other fights i just hang around in the back and nuke :)
some practice, some skill, some forsight and nerves of steel will get you there :) have fun practicing :)

also the encounter helps to have fast steady dps up unitil 25% then even open up on him full throttle .. since at 20% the infernals spawn ALOT faster.20 seconds each.
the faster you get him down to 25% fewer infernals will have spawned.
a good strategy is to start near the door.. when that first infernal drops if its far away from you guys.. move towards it so you know that it will despawn soon (2 minutes or 4 infernals... i think)

I think you guys hit on what we need to do differently. Our tank doesn't want to move until he has to. I'm not a tank so I just assumed there was a reason for this. But if the tank can pro-actively move, then yes this fight would get a lot easier.
We kept trying to beat it by keeping the tank in one spot the entire time unless an infernal fell on his head.

well we normaly do this as well, steamboat. the tank needs a wall to stand against for the knockback of thr prince. and he will generate less agro while running around, i assume.

you still stand against the wall for the knockback but you slide him up and down like you said proactively according to how the infernals fall and it can make things much less dependent on randome placement of infernals.

By raid movement, I mean everyone move together, fast, including tank, the only obstacle for the raid movement is ur tank neglect the fact that he shldnt face his back to Prince & just dash off to the location u guys guided him. If he strafe nicely he shldnt be having a problem moving around. I once strafe from the door , all the way to the other end of the side with my raid, thats like a freaking long run i must say with healers still gotta keep u up. And also theres time the whole raid tk over my location & I strafe to the other location so they can dps properly.
If u rely too much on lucky infernals, then u gotta wipe many times on Prince every week, true story.

Tips: Always remember where the first few infernal fall, becuz @ Phase 3 where infernals become un-manageable, those phase 1 infernals will be gone by then
