windows vista: headset help!

hey guys, i recently brought a new pc with windows vista home premium on it. i tried everything to get my headset to work but only the mic works. now and again i hear a fuzzle out of the speakers but thats it. please if u can help me get them to work id be very greatful. if you need to speak to me or anything im currently playing on:

Stupid question, BUT, you have the headset plugged into the right hole?

Make sure you don't have it muted in volume controls. ( I am assuming that vista is similar to XP, being that I do not run vista)

vista isnt that much like xp really. yes its plugged in correctly and yes it isnt muted....but it still dont work
