How can I tell if my video card supports a widescreen monitor? I have heard not all cards can handle one. Right now I am using an ATI RADEON 9550.

The words support and handle are not mutually exclusive. For instance, one can play WoW with 256mb, and is supported. However, it won't handle at all well, it'll be sluggish and appear to be lagging all the time.
Widescreen support is controlled by drivers, not the physical card. You'll be fine to use one. However, the card is so weak, the extra rendering onscreen is only adding fuel to a fire which has well and truely past it's prime. In all honesty, you'd notice a much bigger improvement going with a cheap graphics card, even something as old as a FX class, preferably a 7600, than going for a new screen.

Thanks Kalos. I didn't mean I would be using this card/monitor/computer for playing WoW, but just for general computer use. I was just wondering if there was a way I could tell on my computer if my set-up was able to run a widescreen monitor or not.
