Ok, odd questions.

We're thinking of getting a pet hedgehog...mostly because it's the only animal, aside from fish and reptiles, that we can own (because of allergies).

So...has anyone ever owned one or known anyone who has owned one?

I've been looking on forums and such, but I just want to make sure I get a well rounded view. I assume people posting on hedgehog forums are going to love/like their pet, so i just want to make sure I scout out any possible bad experiences.

Fine as pets - just don't sit on it!!

Actually hedgehogs are not pets over here, but i'm assuming that your hedgehogs are a different sub species to ours over here which can be had as pets.

We show our creativity as a nation and have called them 'american hedgehogs'

if allergies are your problem go and rub your face on a chinchilla. Their hair is so fine that fleas cannot live in it and it generally doesn't effect people with allergic reactions. Maybe it'll be more suited.

(I used to run a Pet shop)

They have fleas.

They like dog food.

They hibernate.

...They are the only animal to be both cute and NOT cuddly.

...Err...they are in fact, not a breed of pig

(I once adopted an X-police drugs dog called 'Pot Shep')
