Since my last cigarette.

It's not been too hard, when I get a craving I walk about. When the craving gets too much I suck my Inhalator.

http://images1.clinicaltools.com/images/cmetobacco/nicotine_inhaler.jpg

It contains a wossname with menthol and nicotine. I don't chew gum - never have done - and I don't want to be patched as that means a constant source of Nicotine. At least this way I can try to resist the urge.

There is however one draw-back.

Completely unconsciously, whilst in the Crypts last night, I popped it into my mouth, lit it, and inhaled a lung full of melted plastic.

Lighters and matches are no longer in the vicinity of the PC.

52hrs 33minutes now.

Not that I am counting...

I bought a bag of small sweet lollies and went cold turkey and all decided in one hour. Thankfully I didn't get hooked on the lollies.

Well done for taking the plunge. I found a quick walk round the block would help me when I was I had my most weakest moments and if it was too wet/cold to do that I used to have a bit of a hissy fit, throw a chair and that would do the trick. Once my boyfriend locked me in the hallway to have a 'mental' as he put it. I have a short nerve as a non-smoke and it was ball hair width as a recovering one :/ But do whatever it takes, apart from smoking bits of plastic - I'm pretty sure that's about as bad as smoking ciggies you know:)

Stick with it DM. You can do it! rar rar rar

btw - is this because of the smoking ban coming in on 1st July?

Grats DM! I have been smoke free for about 6 months now....but I went to the equally gross and disgusting chewwing tobacco route. But, I am slowly working my craving for that away through use of loose tea. My plan is by September first to be completely done with all forms of tobacco.

still counting - 78 hours now

Getting easier.

Elly: I gave up because it became a chore and not a pleasure. I used to really enjoy at least one or two a day (out of the 30+ I lit up), and that dropped to maybe one or two a month.

Add to that the £70.00 per week it cost ....

I had to stay out of pubs for a while and then when I eventually ventured back into them I'd have to have a packet of crisps or some nuts to keep my hands busy (double entendres all round).

You must be past the physical withdrawal from nicotine by now and you've not maimed anyone or chewed your own fist off so good going. Now it's just breaking the habit.

70 quid a week! Strewth I didn't realise they were so expensive, that's £3640 a year. You'll be able to get a very nice holiday out of that.

I bought a pipe and a pouch of cherry tobacco. Smoked the pipe only when i absolutely couldn't stand it any more - but just puffed on it without inhaling.

That got me through the first year. Then the pipe became too much of a hassle to mess with so I threw it away.

Been a non smoker for 18 years now.

btw it was still kinda rough for a couple years after I threw the pipe away. I would have "moments" where it was a struggle. That stopped 4ever when I started seeing myself as a NON smoker rather than a former smoker. Mindset is everything (once the physical addiction is broken that is).

yeh? and can you manipulate or trick yourself into a different mindset if yours happened to be the wrong mindset? sorry to be so pessimistic but life just isn't so simple is it...? that's like a hallmark moment of "you just have to believe!!"

i mean, you really have to want to stop in order to stop... and if you don't really want to stop you can't trick yourself into stopping... i miss smoking and i don't really want to stop, and i think it's just silly to think that i can 'will' myself into wanting to stop.

right now, i'm just stopping because ploy asked me to, and maybe one day it'll just go away and i'll forget about it.... we'll see.

I dont believe it either mate :)

I only believe the 3 friends who have been smoke free after reading it. I want to stop - but I do nothing about it, so I must not want to. Hence I only got to chapter one ;)

If tobacco was introduced to us now it would be treated a lot worse than probably heroin or even beer.

We would all be sitting in bars smoking ganja in a pipe & sipping mineral water otherwise.

Yeaaaah.. I started smoking when I was 15, I think. (i'm now 17) I had friends who got me into it. It's legal to smoke here at the age of 16, but I decided to quit then because I didn't want to keep the crappy habit. ;) That's also when I met my boyfriend, and he wanted me to quit too, so I did!

You'll do it, you wanna know why?

Because you actually want to. So many quitters dn't actually want to stop smoking which is why they make these half hearted attempt. then when they actually want to stop the idea is immediatley deafeating because they have failed so many times before.

All this mindset crap is just pseudo-intelligent bull. The simple question you have to ask yourself is do i actually want to smoke? The cravings are physical and will pass, you've just gotta hold on until your body no longer requires the nicotine.

Also... stop counting the hours. You have already got where you want to be, counting it makes it seem like a 'how long can you hold before you break' competition rather than I am now a non-smoker.

Is that a mindset? Crap!:ponder:

Wow, that was a bitter response to someone who was just trying to help by sharing what worked for them.

So sorry you are being forced in to doing something you really don't want to do. For me I had figured out that smoking just sucks... it destroys your health and makes you smell bad. Sure, I enjoyed it. I used the same argument repeatedly when others would try to get me to quit - "I smoke because I enjoy it and I don't want to quit so shut up" - and then I would smoke twice as much.

No, you can't use mindset to trick yourself into quitting; on the other hand, with a mindset that you really don't want to quit - well good luck with that.
