View Full Version : Highly disappointed almost 'Newcomer'

That's just my problem - I haven't been able to play the actual game and am not quite a newcomer. I had purchased World Of Warcraft, World Of Warcraft The Burning Crusade AND a 60 day game card. After reading the system requirements, I thought my machine would cope. Turns out like this. Get it all home, install the game (only WoW - not The Burning Crusade too), everything installs fine (5 CDS's). I then get the opening screen up, giving me two options. To play the game, or create an account (which it said I needed to do if I didn't have one). So I created the account, entered all my details, registered the 60 day card. After creating my account, I return to the game. Now trying to play I get an error, and its clear my video card is not as good as it needs to be. So it let the game install, was good enough to run on my machine to ask me to create my account. and only now tells me that it can't run the actual game. Ok, so I email blizzard. To ask if I could put a hold on my account. I get a response back saying they can't suspend my account while I get a new machine (I am getting it within the next 4 weeks) but untill then - my time I paid for just ticks away. I find it a little unfair. Perhaps they need to check it runs ok before they recommend you to register and sign up for the account :-S
Highly disappointed, was looking fwd to an addictive game, but this has just driven me away. Waste of around a hundred bucks.

This is why Blizzard, like most software vendors, offer trial keys. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars and finding out it doesn't run, you could have spent around $2.50, brought a trial DvD / CD and seen if you even liked the basic premise.
We get this every so often with our software as well. We offer 30 day fully functional trials. You get full support. If need be, a technician will call you during this trial and discuss the software with you to make sure it is doing what you want it to do. And yet, people rush out and buy it without EVALUATING it.
You cannot really blame Blizzard because you didn't check things out properly. I feel sorry for you, but also not if that makes any sense. Anyway, at worst you're out the free time you get with the retail box. You still have 60 days left after that.
It's not all wasted.

I'm surprised that you're having problems running the game, I say this because I play on a very low-spec machine (64mb card, 512mb RAM, rubbish Celeron processor) and don't have too much problem outside cities (where it gets a bit clunky).
You might want to try updating the drivers for your graphics card to see if that makes any difference. The system requirements for WoW are absolutely the lowest of any current MMORPG that I know of and I'm amazed that it won't run on your machine.

Why dont you just go to the account management screen and suspend the account yourself? But yeh you really should have made sure the game would work before using the game time

The suspension will only kick in once you run out of gametime. It's really more of a "don't bill me anymore". So if you just got charged for 3 months and THEN you cancel/suspend, you can still login for those 3 months. Sux, I know...

my kids sometimes play on a 800mhz p3 with 512mb pc 133 sd ram and they was having to play on a 32 mb on board g/card. i have chucked a cheap 64mb card into this relic but it still plays the game as long as the card drivers i had where updated. the games a bit clunky but the still manage to do stuff

If you will have a new PC in 4 weeks then you are only out $15 (cost per month). Yes this sucks but you could have tested it out before hand with the trial code. You are only out $100 if you never play the game.
Don't let this deter you from the game. Ask any of us that play and I think we would all agree that it is worth it for the amount of enjoyment we get out of it.

You guys should post your errors. We might be able to offer some advice. I have been playing wow for almost 3 years on the same dell laptop (inspiron 6000) with factory video cards and sound cards ( i did upgrade my memory so now i have 1.5gb, but thats it).
Check your drivers first and foremost. Also, if you have updated your driver recently, you might trying rolling it back to the previous driver (this is how I had to play after 2.0 and 2.1 came out until they released a hotfix).

I think the general consensus is that you cannot blame Blizzard for your not reading or just ignoring the minimum system specs on the box.
While I sympathise and agree that really they should be able to see their way to putting a hold on your account, especially seeing as you havent even been able to play once, its a big business and youre one person out of millions. I guess its policy and they adhere to it come waht may.

I woulnd't sweat it too hard, while it's disapointing, get your new machine, and accept you wasted 4-5 weeks of game card time. I wouldnt' lose the sleep over $15, and I'm stingy.
I hope you get going soon, and this will be a thing of the past. Sorry you can't get going right now though, that would be the biggest disapointment to me.

I just got around to finally replacing my 5 year old system. It ran just fine and I'd hate to think what kind of system you must have that falls under the minimum requirements.

If, you want tweaking help, then post a new thread with full system specs over on our tech forum. Folks like Kalos, might be able to help you get your old rig in enough of a shape to at least be able to do some playing, until your new one arrives. No guarantees of course.
As for the rest, see a little too much potential in this thread to turn into a flamewar, so I'm doing a preventive lockdown.
